Is the best way to get to Carver for the interview by flying into cedar rapids and then taking transportation down Iowa City? Anyone know if there is a shuttle service or anything to avoid renting a car?

Air Travel: The closest airport is The Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids, Iowa (25 miles). Airport Shuttles are available from the airport into Iowa City with round-trip fares around $75.

The CR airport is really convenient and is easy to get into and out of, it's pretty great.

Is there a status webpage or is it simply darkness until II/rejection?

I called and talked with admissions today. They will review all applicants and do one of two things: offer an interview, or place you back in the review pile. I haven't heard anything yet either, so I asked her if it is possible I have been reviewed and placed back in the pile. The admissions worker wouldn't exactly answer that question... but I got the impression that (since I've been complete since July 12th) I have probably been reviewed and placed back in the pile. This is totally speculation though and may not be true.
They won't send you any update until January, unless you are offered an interview. At this time they will e-mail everyone who hasn't been contacted and let them know what the "next step" is.

Hope this helps. Sounds like a lot of people on here are kind of in the dark. Good Luck!

Out of everyone else on here... what are some of the stats of OOS applicants who have been offered interviews? Other than URM's.

I've interviewed. 3.9/34 OOS

Given that I interviewed late Sept and haven't heard anything, does this likely mean I've been placed back in the pool rather than being offered an acceptance after the most recent committee meeting?

I wouldn't say that, last year a ppl who interviewd in sept got acceptances into nov and dec as well. To me seems like the process is taking more time this year around, or at least not as many sdn-ers share their good news lol

You're always in the pool after being interviewed. The only other option is being 'final pooled' which will happen around mid to late January at which point final decisions are made.

I interviewed at DMU today and I met a girl who had interviewed here at Carver. She said it was a very pleasant experience and very conversational and friendly. I am very excited for my interview tomorrow!

Thanks everyone, best of luck hope you get some Midwest love.

Thanks! I actually didn't mention it in that post, but I got in a few days ago. Really pumped. Good luck to you too. It really is an awesome school and I didn't really realize how much until the visit. Hopefully you get some good news!

OOS non-URM interviewing on 11/9. Detailed stats in mdapps.

I interviewed here on Friday and I loved it. There is a brief introduction to financial aid, the school, and a few other things, and then around 10 am I had my interview followed by a CBL preview, then lunch, then a tour. I loved this school and I hope to receive positive news! My interviewers were very, very nice!

For those of you that have gotten in: I've only gotten the email so far, not the letter in the mail. What is the process for accepting our spot and is there a deposit to hold it

I'm staying at the Iowa House Hotel; is it realistic to walk to the interview from here? I know it is short distance-wise, but is it walking-friendly (sidewalks)? Or would I be better off taking a cab or something? No street view on Google to help me here ><

Edit: NVM, I see this was answered previously (walk is doable). Would you guys recommend walking vs. other transportation options?

Walking from Iowa House is fine, weather permitting. but stay on the far (south) side of the sidewalk when crossing the river, or you won't be able to use the pedestrian bridge.

I stayed at the Iowa House Hotel and they offer a free shuttle, I just called down the night before and told them the time.

They took me right to the interview building so it was really easy!

You can accept through email or snail mail. No deposit necessary.

General question for those accepted, when did you interview??

Oh you did that too, huh?

Some of the tunnels were scurry.

Accepted via email today! I interviewed on September 19th.

What sorts of things are they looking for in the Additional Info section of the secondary? Just additional activities, etc. that weren't included on your AMCAS application?

Interviewed here on Thursday, just wanted to share my thoughts!

The whole interview day is really well organized, I thought, at least in comparison to what I've experienced before coming to Iowa. You get the chance to hear from people with expertise in different areas, like the admissions process, the financial aid system, and the learning tracks. Not to mention students, both pre-clinical and clinical year students too.

The practice CBL was not scary at all, as long as you don't completely space out and ignore what's going on around you, you'll be fine. As our M4 facilitator said, they mostly want to see "if you can play nice with the other kids," and contribute in a positive way to a discussion.

The interview itself is less stressful than I was thinking it would be after so much was said about the "structured" portion, in which the interviewers are instructed to not respond to your answers to their structured questions. Though they couldn't respond immediately to my answers, they weren't completely stone-faced, but appeared to be listening and interested. They also referred back to my structured answers during our non-structured conversation, so the whole interview actually felt like a natural conversation, I thought. Also, neither the structured questions nor any of the non-structured questions were tricky or overly challenging.

Really great place, I'm crossing my fingers to hear some good news in the upcoming weeks!

To those who interviewed, is any portion of the interview open file?

Interviewed last week in september, what are my chances now?? Do you guys think I'm going to be final pooled at this point since others have been accepted already from later than my date?

Anyone else in this situation???

It was specifically stated that the interview is closed file. The actual interview is only 25 minutes and that is what they mentioned.

Thanks for the response. I saw on the website that it says that they the interviewers won't have your "academic record or MCAT scores" in front of them. Does that mean that they will have other parts of your AMCAS application in front of them such as your personal statement and extracurriculars.

In some of my other "closed" interviews last cycle they still had my secondary application and my AMCAS experiences

The interviewers here knew nothing at all about us. They actually asked me about many things that were clearly on my primary application. So, I think they seriously had no information about us when we walked into that room.

My interviewers already knew what year I graduated, and had apparently read my secondary essays. More than that, I'm not sure, except that I was also told they did not have my GPA/MCAT.

In my experience they hadn't known anything from my primary or secondary apps. They knew my major(s) and the universities I had attended.

Hoping for news today!!!!!!!! Anyone else interview late September with no response yet??

I called the office and they said I hadn't been sent to the sub-committee yet so there has been no chance to make a decision either way...I know it is kind of random who goes to the sub-committee each week but is it normal to not have gone after 6 weeks have passed since my interview?

How receptive to Update Letters, etc. is Iowa? I haven't heard from them and I have been complete for a while now...Late July/Early August time frame.

They have a form on your secondary app page for updates. 3 max I believe, if you have something important, put it in! I'm also hoping for good news today!

So excited! First Acceptance! Hope the rest of you are hearing some good news today too!

Best of Luck!
