Thank you so much for the advice! Really appreciate it!

Assuming there are no major changes, on interview day you will arrive in the morning and listen to a short presentation. The interviewers will come in and introduce themselves, and you will then have two interviews. Both of my interviewers were physicians, but there are medical students on the admissions committee, so you may have a student interviewer. After completing both interviews (30-45 minutes each), you will have lunch with some current students (mostly M2s) who can answer any questions you might have. After lunch, those students will take you on a tour of the facilities and then you are done. I believe if you interview on a weekday, you may also have the option of sitting in on one of the M1 or M2 classes.

The interviewers are not there to make you stressed or trick you with difficult questions, they are there to learn more about you and your motivations. From what I could tell, the interviews were open file; that is, they have access to most or all parts of your application. One of my interviewers asked some pretty specific questions based on my activities and personal statement/secondary application essays, so I would suggest that a day or two before you interview spend a little bit of time refreshing your memory of what you wrote. Be honest and pleasant and try to enjoy the experience.

I found it helpful for all of my interviews to prepare in advance for the commonly asked questions (Why medicine? Why this school? etc.). You want to sound natural, so don't memorize any answers, but think about the important points you want to address for each question. Do some research on UK before you come; website, current students if possible. Try to determine how your goals match up with the mission/goals of the school and find particular aspects of the school that interest you. The interview day is also an opportunity to see if UK is the right fit for you, so if you have any questions that would help you determine that, ask!

If you haven't already, check out the interview feedback page. Best of luck with your interviews!

My status just changed to "Interview(s) to be scheduled." Yay!!!! Should be getting an email soon with the official date!

Yupp, just my interview email this morning! It's my first one -- SUPER excited!! PM me what day you sign up for, maybe we'll be there together!

Congrats! I received an invite Friday! I'm really excited, too! Is UK your top choice?

Anyone willing to share their interview dates? Maybe we will have the same dates?

Hey RJ. I'm interviewing October 14th and 15th, but I applied to the rural physician program. When are you interviewing? 🙂

Aug 27th. First day. Wish me luck and good luck everyone!

Interview invite by email this morning 🙂

SecSubmitted 8/4, Interview Invite by email 8/9.

I haven't picked a date yet because it is required that one does the invite dance for a little while first. It looks a bit like the truffle shuffle. Glad no one else is here...

'grats! :hardy: What date did you choose? I'm going on 10/1.

Also on 10/1 right now! So meetup time 😛

But only because 9/17 is filled, I think I would prefer the early day.

Anyone else not excited about our AMCAS ID on there? I know thats the way to log in to a lot of secondaries...

Hey guys just received my invite today!!! 🙂

I am Canadian so it's an expensive flight down. The flights are cheaper in the morning, like $200 difference, so if I stay an extra night, I'll save a bunch of money.

Also I would have to arrive the night before the interview, so it'll be 2 nights in Lexington.

Just wondering what people's thoughts are on this. Is flying to LEX my best bet and is there like student hostels or somewhere I can stay for 2 nights. Anywhere cheap to suggest? Thanks for any help and I look forward to meeting some of you!

Good luck everyone!

OOS, got the invite today too.

Personally I'm flying into Louisville, it'll save me 150 bucks on a ticket. I've made the drive before and it is pretty short.

If we fly out of Buffalo it will be a lot cheaper (200-300$)

I would consider contacting the admissions office and asking if there is a student host program. I seem to remember from last year that there is one, but I am not sure; I live close and was able to drive down the day of my interview.

If there is a student host program, I would recommend it. It'll save you some money and it's a good way to get some insight you might not find elsewhere.

Yes I was informed that there is a host program and I decided to fly out from Ottawa to Lexington. Came up to $580, but it'll be worth it 🙂

EDIT: And I'm interviewing 10/28 cause 10/01 filled up lol

Just wondering guys,

How many people are interviewed and accepted for in-state and OOS, if those stats are available?

2027 Total Applicants (440 IS)
409 Total Interviewed (270 IS)
194 Total Accepted (127 IS)
113 Total Matriculated (88 IS)

Thanks! Looks like pretty good odds (50/50) once you get an interview 😉

Edit: Just wondering, is there a reason why there's so few applicants? It seems like a perfectly good mid-tier school in a nice medium sized town

IDK if you are able to change flights, but if it's cheaper to fly down to Louisville instead of LEX, I'll be driving from Louisville to Lexington for an interview 9/17 (and back to Louisville the next day).

Who else is interviewing 9/17? I haven't seen many posts from people going that day.

Pretty stoked, though! First interview, and UK has a great atmosphere. 🙂

No sorry I'm booked for 10/29, the other dates are full up. And I doubt I could change my flights any who

Good luck 🙂

The secondary invite went to my junk mail folder, and 2 days ago I received a very nice personalized email.

The author said that she had been going over some notes and noticed that I hadn't yet submitted my secondary.

I am wondering about the following:

1) was it noteworthy that I received a secondary as a Canadian? I mean, do people know of others who were rejected without receiving secondaries?
2) Have others received such emails? Or am I "special"?

UK gives all Kentucky residents secondary applications, but does screen out of state students. For what it's worth, our class (2015) has two Canadian students that I know of.

I can't say if you're "special" or not, but it can't be a bad thing that they want you to complete the secondary application!

There are already 3 of us Canadians on premed101 with Kentucky interview invites!

I was screened out before the secondary, by way of a "if you dont tell us you have any ties to Kentucky then this is it" kindof email. But low and behold I informed them of my ties to UKentucky (parents were previous faculty/family roots in claryville) received a secondary and have since been invited to interview!

Basically i'm saying submit your secondary if this is somewhere you are interested in going. 🙂

woot! My first MD interview invite!
I don't really get how this interview calendar thing works. Is there supposed to be a button for "NEW RESERVATION"?

Edit: OK never mind, I found the button -_-

For those of you that went through the interview process previously...

Besides Greyhound, is renting cars the only other means of going from the Louisville International Aiport to Lexington? Thanks in advance.

for those folks flying in to Louisville, Cincinnati --> Lexington is only ~10 mi longer than Louisville --> Lexington. Cincy has a bigger airport than Louisville so it might give you some more options for the flight in, and perhaps more options for the ride to Lex.

It's the only obvious way, but there are services that provide carpools for commuters, too. You may be able to find something like that, or carpool with another Canadian since there seem to be several! I live in Louisville and I'll be driving to Lexington for my interview on 9/17, but if you're interviewing another day, I would imagine that flying to Cincinnati and driving would be your best bet. Greyhound used to run reliably from Cincinnati, too, as I recall.

Interview Invite!
Got it yesterday right before leaving South Africa!

3.8 s and cGPA, 31R, OOS
Submitted 8/6, Fee paid 8/12, Complete 8/16

Interview invite. It is already full until November 22nd, which seems pretty late to me.

November isn't late! There are people in my class who interviewed in January and February.

I just remember last year they had a pretty full class by December.

I don't think that's very late, considering that Sept. 17th is the first interview session even available to applicants who aren't early-admissions. Don't be discouraged!

I actually noticed today that the Aug. 30 interviews that were originally just for early admissions opened up to regulars. There are about 5 slots left. You can't register for it yourself because it is less than a week away, but if you call they might be able to set it straight.

I feel so lucky to have been able to cut three months off my interview date!

how was it?

The interviews went really well! I got a lot of questions answered, especially through the tour with the students. The committee meets next week, but I can't hear the results as a regular until October 15 due to AMCAS regulations or something. More waiting...

I'll be there for the 9/17 interview, and I'm also from Louisville. Had to take off work but completely worth it.

Glad to hear it went well! Out of curiosity, did they tell you anything about curricular changes? There were a few affecting our class (most notably a move to what is essentially P/F grading for M1/M2 and we will be starting our clinical rotations a little earlier) but there are more changes coming, which may or may not affect next year's class.

I heard from the students that next year's M1s will receive percentage grades instead of letter grades. I also heard there were changes incoming to the block system to make everything more integrated to better prepare students for the boards. Most of the changes to the curriculum will not affect the 2012 cycle students.

I was really hoping to snag one of those! Earliest available now is Nov 22, and I just took the 2nd to last one...

Interview invite! I took the earliest interview (11/29). Now time to find a flight! I'm so excited! I interviewed last year (3/12 or something), so glad to be earlier for a chance at an open spot rather than waitlist! UK is awesome! I wish you all the best.
