So you have to have the FAFSA completed and then a very small, one page supplemental form from the link they sent out to your email. Kathy at the admissions office told me that it wasn't bad if you haven't completed this stuff. Turns out I had when I followed the links on the email.

Anyone know what we put for "student ID"? (on the supplemental app for fin aid)

I spoke with financial aid on this. They said don't use anything in the UFORM. In the one for institutional scholarships that is due April 1 you should use all 9's.

my buddy just got an acceptance in the mail--IS

Match Day is for residency, and doesn't have anything to do with medical school admission.

except that the office of admissions at the U helps organize the match day celebration/event (they were closed all day Friday)

Hopefully with that off of their plate, they might start sending out decisions

Are any of you guys from or familiar with the area around the U? Im looking for apartments and its a bit more difficult than I anticipated since Im OOS. Im looking for an apartment thats on the newer/renovated side and close to school. Also, has anyone heard of Artspace apartments downtown? They look pretty neat on the website but not familiar with the area. Any feedback is appreciated! 🙂

If your looking to be close to the school you may consider renting a place from the U of U. Some of the students I met with on my interview lived in a place they referred to as the towers. With some of the better benefits being a minutes walk to class.

There is a really long waiting list for student apartments though. I already looked into that but the lady told me I wouldn't be able to get in by August.

The other thing to remember is that all U students get free bus passes. If you pick a place to rent that is a little further away but has a bus or train pass by that is a straight shot to school, its almost as good as living on campus, but cheaper and prettier apartments.

There are a bunch of buses up to the hospital/med school area from the avenues or the 9th and 9th area. I would search for apartments in the avs or along 100 south/south temple. There are also a couple of apartment complexes at the lower end of campus ('the landing' I think the place is called).
With a whole host of campus shuttles running, it's really easy to get from the bottom of campus up to the med school.

My sister-in-law lived in the artspace. She liked it. It's right by the gateway mall, which is nice. The downside is cement floors and the homeless shelter is right across the street. Hope that helps.

Also, can any accepted students comment on when orientation is and when the first day of school is? I can't find this info online.

So...I'm probably risking an MI by spending so much energy on this, but I've gone through threads for the last couple years and have some thoughts on when decisions will be out. From reviewing prior threads, the office of admissions claims the end of the month, but they tend to send the majority of letters in the two weeks prior to the end of the month.

Acceptances: Status change online and/or postal letter
Waitlist: Postal Letter
Rejection: Postal Letter

This week: I would expect mostly rejections this week, though a few scattered acceptances may be found. I anticipate we have the most movement on Friday and Saturday when letters that will be mailed out today arrive. There seems to be some delay in the mailing process that shows 4-7 day mailing time from the date on the letter.

Next Week: I anticipate the majority of acceptance action on Monday and Tuesday via status change. Letters will confirm this in the postal mail on Thursday and Friday. Mostly waitlists and a few remaining rejections will be notified with letters dated 28-29 March, but will experience a postal mailing time of 4-7 days, with no status change.

I really hope to get news one way or the other at least a few days before April starts. I am presently scheduled for an interview in the first week of April, but would withdraw from the interview immediately upon acceptance at the U.

Anyone else have thoughts on when we might see some action? Has anyone heard about admissions decisions not posted here?

I called the admissions office today to ask about orientation dates and the first day of class. In case anyone wants to know:
Orientation - May 11th
First day of class - August 14th

I tried to get more info out of her regarding acceptances. All she said was that they are trying to get them out before the end of the month. She said that some decisions will not be sent until April. I would assume the April decisions are probably the March interviews.

Thanks for calling and posting your results.

Unfortunate to hear that they plan on violating the AMCAS traffic guidelines by not notifying everyone by the end of March. On the other hand, they seem to tell the same story each year whenever people call, but when it comes down to it, we see the admissions decisions flow out before this. Fingers crossed that the office was giving a party line again rather than the exact anticipated date. Also, in past years, the decisions that come arrive last in the mail (April) tend to be waitlist/rejection, not acceptances.

Good luck to everyone as we head into the home stretch! Please keep us posted as you hear back and if you know anything about friends hearing back also.

Just a helpful note: may 11 is the freshman information session which is helpful but not mandatory and orientation week is the week of August 13, with white coat ceremony being Friday of that week. Although classes do not begin until August 20, orientation week is mandatory for all students (unlike the may 11 session).

Is everything really this quiet out there? No one has heard anything this week? This doesn't follow the patterns I've seen in the past.

I have heard from some current MD students that they have increased the class size from 80 to 100 this year (just barely, thank you Vivian Lee) and next year the class size will be bumped back up to 120 seats.

How exciting! 👍

Does that mean those of us still waiting to hear could benefit by an extra 20 seats, or will it benefit next years applicants? Anyway to verify this? I've looked online but can't find anything.

Just called admissions. It's just a rumor. She said decisions will likely be placed in the mail on the 28th.

Thanks for calling in.

Killer that they are seriously waiting right up until the end. For the last two years they had held the party line about the end of the month and sent many decisions early anyway.

Oh well...good luck to everyone. Too bad the increased class size isn't real.

Maybe, but to be honest I wouldn't trust the admissions office to fess up about this to prospective students. I know for a fact Vivian Lee has been talking with the Utah legislature to increase medical school funding. This is a priority for them because it damages the U's reputation to have such a small medical school class.... But six day countdown, I guess those who get in will have their online status updated next wed. Good luck to all of us.

As for the issue of the increase in the class size, that was a possibility at one point, but will definitely not be happening this year. There was a proposal as part of the 2012 Utah legislative session to provide funding for a 20 seat increase in class size, which would have been in effect this fall. Unfortunately, the proposal was cut from the budget at the end of the session.

My wife called the admissions office today. They told her they started mailing letters TODAY! and that they were going to continue everyday until the end of next week.

just checked my status page and found out i was accepted.

idaho resident. interviewed in january.

best of luck to those still waiting to hear back

Weird that they don't tell a consistent story when different people call in. Well...let the rolling decisions begin. I can't sleep! Good thing its 8:30 in the morning!

they have been mailing letter for weeks now, everything will get out by next week though

Accepted this morning via portal update. I am an Idaho resident and interviewed in November.

Congrats to those admitted. Looks like an Idaho acceptance day for sure. Please post if you plan on attending if you are accepted. Especially for OOS and ID applicants, one person dropping will make a huge difference to those on the waitlist.

Thanks.

I spoke with Dr. Samuelson this week and he said the bill to increase the class size didn't pass....

Well, bit the dust this morning. Rejection letter in the mail today. I'm in to a few others so I'm still headed to school in August, just not with you guys. GOOD LUCK!
