Agreed. Sorry, I edited my post right before you responded, but I'm pretty sure that's exactly how a waitlist works, too. I believe an alternate list is a short list of only the most qualified at the end of the year who have yet to receive an acceptance but are still hoping for one.

Yeah, I agree on that. I'm just wondering how common it is for those on hold to get accepted from the hold status.

I got the 'Hold after Interview' status as well. 🙁

This may have been asked before, but it's a little unclear to me from the letter - is it possible to get accepted later in the season straight from the hold category, or are the options just rejection or waitlist (later in the season)?

+1 Will any of us in the hold category be offered acceptances before May 1st?

I take it as deferred decision... Not accepted bc they want to look at more candidates before they accept too many and get "better" ones at the end... But maybe I'm being too positive?

accepted as well! so excited!

I called last week and was told that applications "won't necessarily" be looked at again during the cycle. (I assume they meant pre-waitlist categorization.) They said they welcome updates, however, so my guess is that might get your app pulled for re-review? They did not state that, but it would make sense to me. Sadly, I have nothing new to report!

LOOOVE this school....

put me in for the hold category as well. I guess you win some, you lose some lol.

Accepted via status page! I <3 Case Western and am soo thrilled that one of my top choices accepted me so early in the game.... All smiles here!!!

Rejected CWRU College Track - Complete 9/20. Letter is dated 10/16, but did not appear on the website until 10/30. I did not receive an email.

EDIT: received email 10/31

What's the likelihood of getting accepted to another program at Case, if rejected by college track?

They are different programs, so I wouldn't think you're out of the running just because one program didn't choose you for an interview; hang in there!

someone told me college track is only 35 spots.. so I really don't think this would have any influence over your university track chances.

Same as for someone who didn't apply to CCLCM. The two MD programs (UP and CCLCM) have completely separate adcomms and admissions decisions. It's not at all unusual for someone to be accepted to one program and rejected (even pre-interview) at the other. MSTP decisions are also completely separate from CCLCM. But MSTPers are part of the UP while they're in med school, so I'm not sure if you can be accepted to the MSTP if the UP rejects you. But again, you can definitely still be accepted to the MSTP or the UP even if CCLCM rejects you.

I think it's 32 spots actually.
Correct.

Just interviewed here for UP about two weeks ago so should be hearing back on a decision some time next week Does anyone think it's a good idea to send them a combined interest+update letter before receiving my decision? Case is definitely one of my top choices right now and I really don't want to get put on hold and have to send the letters/updates after that happens and go through all the waiting (it seems like your interest in their school is less to them important once on hold). My stats (LizzyM score) are average to slightly above average for accepted students.

I did exactly this and got placed on hold (whatever that's worth to you, I have a lower GPA). I do know they were added to my file before the decision was made. Maybe it helped my application, or maybe it played no part. I think I did just fine during the interviews, so mine were simply to express interest and update a couple aspects of my AMCAS. Anyway, you'll ultimately need to make the choice to send the letters or not since the decision is incredibly specific for each person's situation.

I also contemplated sending a letter, but ended up not doing so. I was accepted. Again, I don't think it can hurt your chances, but like pachewisc said, its ultimately your decision.

Complete 10.19; II 11.1
I can't wait to check this school out! I have heard great things. Good luck to everyone else waiting to hear back from this school.

Hey CCLCMer or vc77777,

Would it hurt to send pre-interview letter of interest? Thanks!

Rejected today from UP pre-interview. Not very competitive applicant. It was my second choice school due to clinical and research opportunities. Good luck everyone else! C: 10/1/12

^^^ complete at the same date. Did you get an email or did you just check your status. My stats suck for this school, so I should be getting notified about a rejection any day now. 🙁 Oh well, you win some you lose some.

They don't accept pre-interview letters. Only if you've been invited or are on hold I believe.

Edit: Actually, that's for UP. I don't know about CP

I did send such a letter before getting the decision, and I was admitted. So it looks like there's not really a definitive answer on this. Do it if you feel like it will be beneficial/substantive, but do it very soon because I think they send your file to committee reasonably quickly after interview.

Ok makes sense. Thanks!

On pre interview hold 😴 I would rather they just reject me flat out then string me along for 2 months 👎

did they tell you that you're on pre-interview hold? if so, how did they communicate that?

Hey guys,

My secondary was compelte back on 8/10 and I still haven't heard a peep. Curious if you guys think it's worth calling to make sure they haven't lost my application. I'm not really expecting an interview from Case, but I feel like I've already waited quite some time to hear something back from them as others who were complete way after me have aldready been getting pre-interview holds and rejections... Basically I want to know where my rejection is

Anyone else been waiting as long as I have?

Thanks!

Well I finally manned-up and called to see if my application had been lost (I actually asked that) and they said my application had just recently been reviewed and I should see something on iapply soon.

The person that answered the phone was really nice and, by her voice, seemed to think it was strange it took so long for them to look at my application. Not sure if that's a good sign or a bad sign 😕 but either way, I'll have some peace of mind in the next few days hopefully... unless they put me on pre-interview hold.

They sent me an e-mail with a personalized letter and then told me to check status page.

I hear you on this, but if there was a chance they would have put me on hold to show they were interested...that would have been better than my rejection.

So psyched to find out I'm interviewing at Case! But I have a phone interview with Lerner? What is that about? Any chance I'll get a real interview at Lerner?

Any and all advice appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Did you complete early Sept?

Yep, Complete Sept 07. I don't think the probabilities are high to get off this hold into interview status...but I'll just try and rock the interview I do have

That's the spirit! But maybe not give up on this school yet. You still have a chance.

Search in the earlier pages of this thread, someone mentioned the phone interview possibility for this year. If my recollection is correct, it's an interview with 2 senior adcom members to determine if they want to invite you to interview in person.

Oh, that's terrible... an interview for a possible interview, and done over the phone.

So I have been complete since 9/04...and no news. Do they email you with any updates?

did any one on hold pre-interview got the interview Invitee recently ? I am on pre-interview hold from august in UP track and have not heard anything from so long . was rejected from college track after being on hold for 2 months.

How do you get to the status page? Is it just the main page when you log in?

II today for both UP and CP!!! Super excited, especially since I thought I doomed myself by going 200 characters over the research essay word limit. Yay yay yay
