I would say May 20th is a little late, only because applicants have to give final decisions by May 15th. Schools will be expecting huge shuffles on that day, so I'm assuming they'll have prepared at least a preliminary order or list of who they might want to take off the waitlist. If I was on a waitlist, I would probably send my LOI some time in April, maybe mid to late month. But that's just me, I haven't really read about LOI successes a lot from previous years and other waitlists.

Honestly I feel the same way as others do on this thread, really hoping for an eventual acceptance for you here! I wish there were a way to give specific waitlisters your spot!! If I decide on another school at some point in this cycle I would definitely want my spot to go to you 🙂

best of luck, we're all rooting for you!
Man, I can't thank you enough for those kind words. I'll keep that advice in mind, too, as I "patiently" (ha!) contemplate my next move. It makes sense. Good luck to you, too, my good sir. We definitely have a great group of applicants and SDNers here. Cheers, everyone! It's crunch time.

Agreed. The trick is when? Now? May 20th? I'm not sure which would be better; but I'm leaning toward later since they're still interviewing. At least that way they'd be reviewing WLers when I sent it in and it'd be fresh...

I wish they'd actually reject at least 400 people of the 1,000 post interview so we'd have a better idea of where we stand. It's just so stressfull not knowing where you stand at your top choice.

I'm leaning towards earlier, because I think it makes more of an impact if it's closer to when you hear you've been waitlisted versus closer to the waitlist date. It shows a sense of urgency for you as an applicant (or that's how I'd see it if I were an adcom).
Plus, the LOI will be readily available in your file when they start reviewing waitlisted people instead of having to search for it.
Just how I'd approach it 🙂

How many people do they reject?

Rejected today pre-interview after being on hold for ~2 months.

Great point. I don't think they reject post interview until the end 🙁 From what I've read and heard, I think they just waitlist or accept post interview.

Sent from my iPhone using SDN Mobile app. Please excuse brevity and/or typos.

This is not true. I was told that they do reject post interview.

Unfortunately, I'm evidence to the contrary. Rejected post-interview via snail mail last week. 🙁

Haha, maybe I was so bad they made a special exception just for me? Anyway, good luck getting a spot, as you can see they're starting to cull the herd so hang in there!

I'm sorry to hear that. Did you also get an email?

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that, too. It definitely feels amazing to have landed a real spot on the waitlist, but not so nice to hear it at someone else's expense. Do have you had any other interviews/offers?

No email, just snail mail. Online status says information regarding my status sent to my permanent address.

I do have one offer already, which takes some of the sting out of the rejection. I'm also waiting to hear from a couple of my top choices post-interview so I have my fingers crossed for good news there. Best of luck at GW though! Compared to many schools, I think the waitlist is not a terrible place to be. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks! I wish you the best of luck at your top choices, too. And congrats on your other offer! Just rest assured that we'll be doctors at this point, which is 90% of the battle in the end.

I just interviewed on the 10th. Was anyone else on here at that interview with me? This is gonna be a long 8-10 weeks...

I'm guessing you meant you interviewed on the 11th, and I was there as well. I really loved the school and yes these next 8-10 weeks are killing me. Definitely my top choice. How did you feel about the school?

I interviewed on the 11th and I am wondering when is "too early" to send a letter of interest? I don't want to seem like a gunner, but I really want to reaffirm my interest in GW. What do you guys think?

I'd send something like a letter of interest first. Save the intent letter for after a decision maybe?

I guess I don't get the idea of saving a letter of intent for after a decision. If you know you'd attend there, then why not send it before a decision? Seems like that's when it can be most effective. Of course I'm not an adcom member though.

I guess I might send it a little bit closer to the time when they'll review your app, just so it's on their mind when they're reviewing you, but that's the only thing that comes to mind for me.

My guess is because I feel like intent letters are useful for adcom members when they're trying to fill seats off the WL. I don't think an intent letter pre WL is likely to affect their decision.

I bet they do use them to help them decide who gets in from the WL, but I think also that part of the reason they WL so many applicants is that they want to make sure someone wants to go there before admitting them. Seems like if they already know you want to for sure attend then you might be more likely to get an outright acceptance. GW is also pretty explicitly pro-updates before their decision comes out IIRC (though this is slightly different than an update). Anyway, just my thought.

I'm kind of thinking along the same lines as you are. I think it may show them that if they let me in I am attending, versus them letting me in and I decline. Hmmm I'll give it some thought 😕. Thanks for your input guys!

interviewed 1/4.....do they accept LOR updates? If so, how do I submit one?

you heard back relatively early! I hope I get a decision soon... they do accept LOR updates. You need to have the letter writer upload the letter to AMCAS. Then once it's received by AMCAS, GW wants you to let them know that you have added additional letters. Hope this helps!

Helps a lot! Thanks!

I saw you were rejected post-interview and that your stats are pretty good. I was wondering if anyone else had i similar experience. One of my classmate and friends interviewed here early november and he too was rejected post interview in december. He has greats stats and gotten invites at highly ranked school and has even been accepted to school likes NYU and BU. I am wondering if admission committees at mid tier schools like GW reject very good applicants following the interview because they know they are most likely not going to attend. I know this sounds kinda dumb, but the initial people who read one's application and decide whether or not to extend an invite only make up a very small percent of the voting committee. If this is the case though, it very disappointing since people are spending lots of money to travel to lots of different schools.

Perhaps having too high stats is considered in GW's decision. But there are also plenty of applicants who have been accepted to GW with very high stats. I think they're looking for applicants who are a good fit for the school. Numbers don't get you everywhere.
Plus, if the adcom "knows" someone is most likely not going to attend GW based on stats, so they're rejected immediately post-interview, why extend an interview invite in the first place?

Sorry to hear that :-( but don't give up hope yet!!

Do you mind sharing how you were notified? Through email or only a status update online? I interviewed on the 3rd, so I'm anxious for any news, good or not so good.

Email and status changed online too. Thanks, the waiting is rough.

Rejection email... complete July... sent them a withdrawal email but I guess they still wanted to reject me.

My condolences to those rejected today. I know it's been an exceptionally long, rough wait.
Did anyone (rejected) happen to check the status website recently? If so, did your status say something specific like "correspondence has been sent"?
My status still says re-review...so I'm wondering what I'd see in the days or hours before a rejection e-mail comes flying into my inbox.
Just trying to relieve some of that e-mail checking suspense and anxiety, I suppose.

Same here, I hate being caught waiting during these mass executions.

Complete mid July and still have no word from school. Wait patiently....

Does anyone know if this is the first round of rejections at GW? I was placed on hold for re-review a long time ago (was complete in August) and still have not been rejected or received an ii....just wondering if I should be expecting an email soon.

This isn't the first. The rejection rounds have been occurring roughly once or twice a month since early November. And by "round" I mean a specific day when multiple posters on SDN said they received rejections.

My status changed to "correspondence has been sent" almost immediately I think.
