Next week is GW's spring break SO, if we didn't hear this week it wouldn't be until March 18th (earliest).....that makes me think it will be this week. Right?

I think it would have to be since they only interview through March, and if they sent anything out that week it would give us a week's notice which is pretty tight 😛 Unless they add any later dates like that random one last year, it pretty much has to be this week for II's, although I guess they could wait for rejections

GW, just put me out of my misery.
Either way, just send me an email.

Okay, called again. Finally spoke to someone after being hung-up on twice. They do not have an end date for the last interview invites, and if they do, they 'cannot release that information'.

Look, I understand they have a lot of applicants, that it is difficult to make decisions, etc, etc. But don't give people false hope with 'letters of interest', and then make them wait another two months to hear back. 👎

Oyyyy. If there's a snow storm, and they have to reschedule interviews, not only would that be a complete mess with peoples' flights but that's just disastrous for us who haven't heard yet. They would HAVE to extend the interview period.
I can't believe they would make us wait until the end of March to hear about an interview...but thanks for calling SilverCat!

Totally agree. I could've fully gestated a human being during the time it's taken them to figure out what to do with my secondary.

I suggest everyone begin making plans and carrying on with life as if you already got that rejection e-mail. At this point, the chances of II as well as an immediate acceptance are so low it's not worth holding off other plans. Hope for the best but don't count on it.

Hi all,

I know you're all super frustrated with the slowness of the process, and I'm so sorry for that 🙁. I really hope that all of you hear back from the places you want SOON and that this will all come to a close for all of us in the best possible way.

With that being said, I just withdrew my acceptance from GW. With a heavy heart, because it was my first one and I loved DC. But it's definitely time to do it and I really, truly hope it goes to one of you all.

Best of luck everybody! This is such a great school.

Big congrats to you and thanks for withdrawing before May 15! 😍

Ok shopping is decent in Georgetown. Clyde's blah. now, Bodega is awesome but DC has way much more to offer than just Georgetown.

One day more, another day another destiny
this never ending road to.. May 15th?

jk I actually dont care about my spot on this wait list anymore, i should probably just withdraw already. couldn't pass up a les mis reference tho

Honestly, if that's how you genuinely feel, I'd definitely do it. There's only one other school I'd rather attend. If I get in to that one I'll withdraw immediately. Otherwise, I'll do everything I can to get in off that WL. I already have my back-ups. I just love GWU's curriculum (and unique opportunities) far more than even my top choice. I'd be so happy here. :sigh:

well idk if they're planning to do this this year, but last year around March 15th I received an email asking me if I wanted to stay active on the wait list and if you did, they asked you to fill out a semi-application with your most up-to-date information and updates. i was planning on withdrawing if I still felt this way when I received that. if not i'll definitely withdraw by the end of the month unless I have a sudden change of heart. last year the first acceptances off the wait list didn't come until the first week of May, so i'm not negatively affecting anyone for the time being 🙂

Oh dear, I'd rather just send in updates throughout the summer than fill out anything else resembling an application/secondary. I think I've been traumatized (applied to 36 schools).

Cool, sounds like a plan. We really appreciate that. Are you in anywhere else?

Yeah I remember feeling totally exasperated when I got the email from them, esp when I had already been sending in updates but I guess gws gotta do what gws gotta do. And I'm in at the 2 schools in my state, one of which offered me a partial scholarship last week on top of their in state tuition so I have absolutely nothing to complain about. There's still a special place in my heart for gw tho but time to get w reality!

Yeah, I feel ya, same situation here, minus the state scholarship (kinda stingy at one school and late notice at the other). I got into every school I applied to in this state. Made me feel super awesome considering my stats are below average. Got a scholarship to a Cali DO school, but turned it down. I knew I'd have been miserable at the school. Being back home in Cali was just not nearly enough reason to look past the negatives.

I mean, I want to enjoy my school and locale as much as humanly possible considering how difficult it's going to be. But don't get me wrong, a hefty scholarship is definitely sway worthy.

For those who have recently been accepted, when did you interview? I interviewed only two weeks ago, but I'm already getting antsy waiting to hear back. Thanks!

Also, if you've written an update letter, who did you address it to?

Is today the day?!

I have a feeling they may have already sent the last interview invites, but they just happened to go to people who don't post on SDN. Rejections will come by April, I'm assuming.

I have no proof of this, but if they're not going to be meeting next week because of spring break, it seems likely all the IIs would've gone out by now.

But I do not think that admissions is gone next week...I'm pretty sure they are still in the office

Surely at least ONE of us would have gotten one though. I would be surprised if not a single SDN'er got one. Hopefully they'll go out next week. I just can't believe it takes this long to decide.

I just got a rejection e-mail. At least it wasn't dragged out even more.
It's been a hell of a ride, everyone.

E-mail saying they may offer a few interviews very late in the spring and application has been kept on file.

Ah, rejection. Well at least I am officially done applying to medical school. Good luck to everyone else!

Thank you for your sincere interest in The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. At this time, the Committee on Admissions has closed the formal weekly interview season for the Fall 2013 entering class. The Committee on Admissions regrets to inform you that we are not able to offer you an interview at this time. However, the Committee would like to keep your application in active status.

There is a very slim possibility that the Committee on Admissions may decide to offer a few interviews in late spring. Your file has been placed in a pool of applicants from which the Committee would select those to be interviewed. Should you have any updates for your file during this period, please send this information to [email protected]. Should you have the good fortune to be accepted to the MD Program of your choice, please inform us (via email at [email protected]) so that we may withdraw your application from future consideration. The Committee will be in contact with you in late April to communicate what they have decided regarding additional interviews.

Although this does not end what we are sure is an unpleasant waiting period for you, your desire to become a physician, your understanding of the requirements, and your perseverance are commendable. Again, we do want to emphasize that the regular interview season has closed and the possibility that we will offer a few interviews during the next few months is slim. In the event that your status changes, we will contact you. Please understand it will be some time before you hear from us again and accept our sincere apologies for the unpleasant wait.

We greatly appreciate your patience and truly wish you success in achieving your career goal.

Is this a rejection? Are they stringing me along?

mhh917, that is not the rejection e-mail. You're still under consideration.

But damn do they love to string people along.

yep just got that email. I think its equivalent to a rejection but not a 100% sure. Any insight would be great as I don't want to keep my hopes up for no reason!

+1

and UGHHHHH

Could anyone from last year's app cycle please comment on this situation?

The writing is fairly clear. It is 99.9% a rejection, but if someone cancels then there will be a person taken for interview. I would treat it as a rejection.

I got this email too. From last year it looks like one person did get a random interview in May or something, but I only saw one. Of course, SDN is only a subset of applicants.

I see this as a pre-rejection, but whatever, if they randomly decide to interview me later in the season that would be fine, I'm in DC anyhow.

RIGHT THO?! I started reading mine expecting it to be a rejection, and busted out laughing when I realized that it was another limbo letter. If you're done with interviews, then just clearly reject everyone and be done with it. Don't try to hedge your bets in case your accepted students choose elsewhere, or your waitlist pool isn't as strong as you wanted. The audacity of it all.

Thanks GW, but no thanks.

Personally, I feel that this treatment of applicants is very sleazy indeed. No other school has strung me along like this; I sincerely regret writing that update letter. Definitely will be withdrawing (not that it matters to them).

Word seriously! Talk about being on limbo. Gw this isn't putting me out of my misery.

This. 800% this. This is just not okay--you know you're not going to interview us, so why not let us move on? Just reject us already! 😡

Exactly. It's not like their alternate list isn't long enough already.
/bitterness.

But really, I hope an SDN'er gets a random interview in like the middle of May. Do us all proud! 😉
