That's such a daunting number..I really wish MCG had more money to offer students more scholarships and need based grants..

It's still below average for COL and tuition. What's really sad is that tuition was 14k/year when I started and it's now 27k/year when I finish. Add to that another 4k/year in fees and you see the picture..

That's ridiculous...it's probably cheaper for some applicants to go to OOS schools than stay IS..

Only for the few that can get into a select number of Texas schools OOS.

Of course, I know that saying our tuition is "cheaper" is just saying that we are the lesser of 100 or so evils. Despite the horrific raises in cost over the last 20 years, our in-state tuition+fees is still cheaper than most public med schools.

Haha sorry, I wasn't trying to scare anyone off or anything. I'm glad MCG's tuition + fees are still on the low side on the grand scale of things, but I still wish they had money to offer more scholarships and grants...but I'm just beating a dead horse at this point haha

New question, is medical spanish offerend as an elective to MS1s?

Don't worry, I am constantly perturbed at the rise of education costs...I just have to take some pride that our school isn't leading the charge.

There wasn't a medical Spanish class offered to us M1s this year, but there is a medical Spanish club that offers workshops on taking exams and patient histories in Spanish. I've never been, but they say it is open for people without any prior training. Also, we run a weekly Latin clinic that some of our bilingual students say is a good opportunity to work on their skills with real patients. Additionally, we send a lot of students in the summer after M1 to Peru for a medical mission trip.

Nice, thanks for the info! I'm guessing students have to provide their own funding for the mission trip..?

I've got a question for those of you who applied this last application cycle.

I just took the MCAT, but really screwed up the PS section so I voided. I am rescheduled for July 13th so my score will release in mid-August. If everything is complete by that time, will my application for the next cycle be considered rather late for MCG? (i know SDNers like to apply super early and I'm not sure how quick MCG is at filling slots)

Also did anyone NOT turn in a committee letter get accepted? I am concerned that my pre-med committee will make me wait until my score gets back to interview me which possibly pushes my completion date back to September...not a choice at all!! So I am considering sending in 3 individual professor letters instead. Have anyone come across this issue too?

Can't comment on the letter issue, but I think you'll be fine with the August mcat release. They don't interview for RD until around October anyway.

Good luck

Yes, but some people stay there and do research all summer (the basic trip is like 2 weeks or something) and they were trying to find grants to help them with funds. I'm not actually sure how that worked out.

Someone posted this in the FB group. Maybe my wish will come true :)

Awesome, hopefully this leads to more scholarships given out this year. Anyone received financial aid packet yet?

I applied with just 4 individuals letters and got accepted.

Also can any current students talk about the differences in living on campus vs off campus? Thanks

I sure haven't.. and it's May now.. Various reasons... but I only have a week before I will be withdrawing if I don't see something.

I think it was mentioned earlier in the thread that we probably won't receive them until June or July.. =/

Does anyone know how the reception is for the different wireless networks in MCG's hospitals? (at&t, verizon, tmobile, etc)

Is there anyone interested in on campus housing at Athens that didn't get it? I signed up for on campus apartment but for personal reasons am unable to live there, if anyone is interested in taking my slot, please PM。

Verizon is the best, but you won't spend significant time in the hospital till 3rd year (unless you have some other job there).

Anyone know when we might hear about campus assignments? I want to start looking for housing, but want to make sure of where I'm going to be first...

So I know that the curriculum at MCG is systems-based, but I'm not seeing the immune system mentioned anywhere in either Phase 1 or 2's curriculum. Can any current student chime in on this?

It's the first module as a MS2. Fundamentals. You will read Parham's Immunology book and be saluted before each lecture (inside joke).

Just wanted to say congrats to Fahimaz on graduation and thanks for answering all our questions! I know you were helpful when I was applying, so I appreciate it. I wish I knew who you were so I could treat you to lunch so you could tell me all your secrets to success!!

And congrats to everyone who got in this year and who will be joining us next year!! We just took our final test today...can't believe first year is over!

I took a mid-July MCAT, and I don't think it hurt me. It's more important to have a good score than to apply early.

No news here either. I called admission and they said to be please be patient, to not call them everyday, may be not even once a week :scared:...so I'll be right here waiting, a bit like that song "Right Here Waiting"

"Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you
Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you"

...and patiently waiting, like that other song "I Won't Give Up"

"And when you're needing your space
To do some navigating
I'll be here patiently waiting
To see what you find"

For those of you who are on the waitlist, try to be patient. Everybody always seems to get the idea that May 15 is when their will be a big push off of waitlists because it is the day everybody has to make their decisions by... it's not. It's more like the day that med schools are allowed to put ultimatums on students who are still holding multiple acceptances, and typically the day that acceptance deposits become non-refundable.

The point is, a lot of movement doesn't occur on May 15th, it takes some time after that. Good luck! I know the waiting sucks.

On the thread from last year there was movement around this time. It seems weird that no one on here has been accepted yet...trying to be patient.

one of my friends who was waitlisted received an acceptance today, if that helps.

I'm still waitlisted (CA applicant). Do you know how they rank OOS students on the WL? I'm assuming it's different from GA students...

Congrats to those getting accepted!!!! That must be a great relief. Did you guys get a letter in the mail? or an email? Thanks for sharing :)

I'm a waitlisted California applicant as well. I'm wondering if all OOS applicants were automatically waitlisted, or if there was actually a filtering process between the interview and waitlisting?

Does anyone have any information on first day of classes/orientation? I can't find any dates online.

Orientation will probably be August 1st and 2nd with class beginning the following Monday, August 5th.

Hi guys! I was accepted on Friday and have a few questions. I looked to see if they had already been discussed here but couldn't find everything:

1. How long after you we're accepted did you receive your netID for outlook? It looks like you need that to complete the medical record info sheet.

2. It looks like we're automatically signed up for the student health insurance through MCG unless we complete the waiver to use another provider. Is this correct or do we need to do anything to register for their health insurance.

3. Do we complete a Fafsa for cost of living expenses (rent, food, etc.) or is it only for tuition and fees? Or are cost of living loans done through somebody else?

Sorry for such a long message! Good luck to those on the waitlist!!

Hey All,
Congrats to everyone who has been accepted thus far!
1. Is there a facebook group for our starting class? Can someone send me the link, please? I haven't been on FB in half a decade so I'll be the one with no picture or friends who joins the group.
2. Does anyone have our actual schedule as opposed to last years template they sent in the email.

1. I am OOS, but have a lot of connections to GA. I'm not sure how they are handling OOSers, but the limited info I do have (just me) suggests even OOS applicants can come off the waitlist. Good Luck!

Got my acceptance as well. Interviewed in California.

Does MCG only email acceptances on Fridays? Or have those being accepted off the WL been receiving emails during the week?

From what I remember at the interview, I think they only meet on Thursday nights and send out acceptances wait-list or not the following day.

From what I understood the committee orders the wait-list so as spots become available the next person is accepted. I think the Friday trend is only between Sept-March when the committee meets with more regularity.

Your explanation makes more sense, thanks for correction.

accepted off the waitlist a few days ago, interviewed in Cali. Withdrawing though, for a school closer to home!
