So i may be able to attend the alternate list second look but i would need to take an 8pm flight out of JFK that night meaning i would have to leave around 5.

The email doesn't indicate an end time but it says there is a dinner so it probably ends later than 5.

Would it be worth it to go if i have to leave early or would that look bad? It doesn't start until 1:30 so i feel like it would be silly to leave around 5 if it doesn't end until 8 or 9. Am i over thinking this?

My guess is it wouldn't be worth the time and money. You're probably better off writing a nice email thanking them for the invite and saying unfortunately you can't attend due to other prior commitments (or whatever the case is)

Thats the thing--I don't really mind going. In fact I'm kind of excited since I found a really cheap flight, i have a free place to crash and a bunch of friends in the city it'd be nice to catch up with. It's just that I have to be back home the next day and the latest flight out that night is at 8:30.

So it's really no hassle for me, just wondering if it would look bad to leave early.

JFK is ~45 min away by cab (sometimes less), so you could leave as late as 6:30p and be alright. They do a great job with the revisit and it's a pretty unique opportunity, so you should come if you can!

For those who went to second look this last weekend--do you mind listing any immediate reactions/likes/dislikes about the school, culture, etc? I couldn't justify another cross country flight after interview season so I'm hoping vicariously live through yall's experiences before making a decision 🙂.

I will honestly say that this revisit weekend sealed the deal for me. It was absolutely fantastic!!!

From the moment I walked in the admissions staff knew my name, the other students had a really positive attitude, and the faculty there was amazing. I spoke with Dr. Butts for a good hour about Sinai, other medical schools, what separates Sinai, and about the Yankees having a horrible season so far.

I did not feel like the staff and faculty ewre tyring to say "come to Sinai because we're great and awesome" and they definitely did not speak poorly of other medical schools, which made me feel as they genuinely cared that we, as the applicants, make the most informed decision possible.

Sure there was some bias towards Sinai (duh! its their revisit weekend), but even the student leaders were great. There was no pressure to choose Sinai, and they spoke about the great things the school has to offer, from summer opportunities, to residency match lists, the research throughout the year, community service, and more. In my opinion, I did not see anything bad that stuck out from the school.

I must say that after the revisit, I went straight to my undergrad registrars office and mailed a copy of my official transcripts, then scheduled my tox screen. If you have any other questions just inbox me and I'll try to answer them (as an incoming student)

The revisit weekend was truly fantastic.

For everyone else who got invited to the alternate-list revisit day: I just called admissions and got a brief run-down of the day. We check in, are welcomed, listen to the associate dean and the multicultural affairs person, have a panel about the schools programs, and then some time to ask our questions. we wrap up around 5, but can then go to the dinner reception if we want. Dress code is business casual. I'm looking forward to seeing y'all there!

Anyone know a current student who was choosing between here and Columbia that I could get in contact with? Message me, please!

I'm still 90%...just trying to make it a hundred

Did I meet you guys tho? I forget

If you are the guy who is married I met you when you checked out couple's housing. I was checking couple's housing too!
🙂

Yes! I remember. I forget how certain you were.

But I think I told everyone 90%. But it was my first revisit and it's still 90 but want to make sure sure

Oh i see. Good luck on your decision then! 🙂 I am 100% certain in regards to my heart but my pocket is not quite certain. 🙁

Any word on alternate list movement? Anyone accepted/rejected off of it yet?

A very few amount of people were accepted off of it already. I have heard that Sinai is expecting less than usual waitlist movement this year

I thought schools didn't generally have an idea of how much the waitlist would move until May 15th? And, if you don't mind sharing, how do you know how many people were accepted off the waitlist?

Thanks, I figured there was some movement. I was just curious. On the alternate list myself and patiently waiting.

I think mystifire probably knows someone personally who has been accepted off the alternate list already, which was my question, not that there has been something official from the school. While yes, the bulk of movement happens after May 15th, when students must declare where they will matriculate, some have already declared, so I was curious if any alternates had been made offers.

does anyone know if the revisit stuff was for URM's or was it like the top 30 people on the waitlist that got invited to second look. cuz from the looks of it, to be honest, it looks like the waitlist is not going to have much movement this year.

also, yes i am a waitlisted student but was not invited to the second look.

I don't think it was a URM invite only thing. I have a few questions though if anyone can answer them. Are waitlisted students supposed to submit all of the financial aid documents also? Does the admissions office actually add update letters to your file when you send them? Does anyone know why the admissions office doesn't reply to any emails? Sorry, this is the only waitlist that I'm on and the administration seems to be really unresponsive but maybe that is normal.

Just withdrew my acceptance, good luck to those on the waitlist!

Can anyone who went to revisit day comment on what the day was like? What you learned that you didn't know before, etc etc? I wasn't able to attend but would love to hear some of your experiences!

Have the merit scholarships already been released?

It seems like no one has been able to confirm that. I assume those were included in the financial aid packages, but I don't think anyone here has claimed that they received one.

Might be worth calling the admissions office about it?

How was revisit (aka. Second look) for wait listers this past weekend? You had great weather for it🙂
Any new info regarding the wait list?

Thanks

They weren't included in financial aid packages, I called Sinai after I received mine asking about merit and at that time, they hadn't sent them out. It seems like it's taking an awful long time...

Matriculating here!

Now time to order some Sinai hoodies! I can't decide on a design though.

HAHAHA. Glad you chose to come here over Columbia! I was thinking the same thing on the hoodie. It is probably the quintessential piece of solidifying a school choice!

Don't know if this is unorthodox or not, but I will probably be in NY a month before school starts and I would like to use the time to shadow a few different specialties. I don't know if I want to go into a competitive specialty but if I think I might, I want to try to start early to make sure I am in the right place without needing to take a 5th year (I'm the one who asked about this during revisit).

Anyone know of any other students shadowing before school starts? Who should I shoot an email to?

Shadowing without a hospital ID and HIPAA training will make it harder than necessary. Just enjoy the summer! There will be plenty of time for shadowing opportunities during the first two years, and your instructors/small group leaders will be great resources for that.

I've done HIPAA before for UCSF shadowing. Super easy. And I'll be in the DR for the month of June, so I'll def have fun this summer. I like shadowing, haha, and it'd probably give me good inspiration for my writing. I'm writing a novel with a neurologist as the MC and I've only shadowed surgeons and ER docs so my info for neuro lifestyle is based off that and stuff I've read.

I hear you tho. Just, to me, this would be enjoying my summer 😉

I can't really give you people to contact (just because I don't know them myself!), but my experience has always been pretty pleasant reaching out directly to doctors here (even the ones I found online). Just make sure to emphasize that you're an incoming medical student and you should find people that should be receptive. You're just shadowing and I used to shadow before without HIPAA or anything like that so I don't think it would be that big of a deal (the HIPAA training that we do as med students takes less than 5 minutes every year 😛)

Congratulations on your decision to matriculate here, by the way. Every year, lots of people turn down Sinai for more "well known" schools, and sometimes I think it's a shame because Sinai is a great school and is really on an upward trajectory. Hope you end up doing everything that you want to accomplish here!
