Seems like alot of those who got the short end of random stick are starting to hear back now, they're prolly getting to the bottom of the stacks....hopefully.

Just got an II this morning! (I was complete in august I think?)

The email says that they day ends "no later than 4:30 pm". For anyone that has already interviewed, what time did you finish up? I'm just trying to figure out some logistical things.

Could you please give stats? Thanks!

I was done around 3:30 as well. If you have a flight then they can get you out earlier as long as you inform them during check in. But there were people who had just gotten back from their first interview when I was finishing up my second. Unless you're in a time crunch plan to be there until 4:30. Also, this was by far my favorite interview day. Get pumped SUNY Buffalo is an awesome school! 🙂

Our day went a little late, but if you have a flight they interview you first. I agree that the staff here is outstanding (wear comfortable shoes - the tour is long)

Hey everyone, I intereviewed here yesterday and just found out my waitlist spot: middle third. I'm a bit disappointed because it means I'm still in limbo (no acceptances, 6 waitlists). I was just wondering if anyone, in all their sdn researching, has ever heard of people getting bumped down a third. I haven't really seen anyone who got bumped down, only bumped up... Thanks!

Idk but I think that last 2 years both first and middle all got in!

Found this little gem in last years WL thread for those interested, courtesy of SDN user InvaderZim. I added the 2012 info from reading the posts within said thread,

2012 -- 29-May -------------- bottom 1/3 (switched to on 7-July)
2011 -- 13-May -------------- bottom 1/3 (switched to on 22-June)
2010 --- 01-Jun -------------- bottom 1/3
2009 --- 19-May ------------- bottom 1/3
2008 --- 19-Jun ------------- mid 1/3
2007 --- 18-Jun ------------- mid 1/3
2006 --- 16-May ------------- bottom 1/3
2005 --- 23-May ------------- bottom 1/3
2004 --- 28-May ------------- bottom 1/3

Hopes this helps everybody!

What do you mean "finishing up around then" - Mr. Rosso recently told me they are going throughout April.

Good to know, just meant someone said that its towards the end of the interviewing cycle. Good luck everyone!

So I've spoken to Mr. Rosso twice, he is such a nice man! He basically told me the lat day to interview this year is April 24th and the last day to be reviewed by the committee is March 31st. They have a 12 hour turn-around between when you are reviewed and when you are notified about getting an interview or being rejected. The same after your interview, within 24 hours you find out if you've been accepted, rejected or put on the waitlist, unlike many other places who take their sweet time and string students along this school is very up front!

I also asked him about stats etc. He said he has been there for over 20 years and back in January when I spoke to him he said the AVERAGE of accepted students at that point in the cycle was a 34! He said this was the HIGHEST he had ever seen, again this is accepted students and not matriculated and only takes into account the students they looked at up until January. HOWEVER, he also mentioned that the week before they had accepted someone who had a 26 because he/she was amazing in some other regard and that the process is TRULY holistic. Just thought I'd add this since I recently joined SDN and have been gathering information about different schools.

So for those of us who applied back in July/August and have not heard anything, does this mean they haven't reviewed our applications yet?

Their transperency in the whole admissions process is so admirable. I wish that other schools that deal with similar volumes of applications could adopt this same philosophy. It doesn't detract from the quality of student they admit and just allows all their applicants to be at ease knowing that they won't be in limbo. Actually, wish every school would do this!

I read this in Mr. Rosso's voice (especially the words in caps) and it made me smile. I love that guy's enthusiasm

Buffalo is an amazing school. They truly care about their students and look at their applicants as whole persons. This cycle I applied to 9 schools, with Buffalo as my number one choice. Overall, I had 8 outright rejections and 1 interview invite which turned into an acceptance at Buffalo. Due to cutoffs, I have no doubt that most, if not all, of the other schools I applied to looked at my 28Q MCAT score and simply tossed my application aside. Buffalo receives thousands of apps each year just as any school does, but its obvious that they review applicants with a drastically different philosophy.

(In-state, 28Q, Sc.GPA: 3.65, C: 3.72)

How many people interview on interview days...and does anyone know how many days out of the week Buffalo holds interviews?

I think I was there with a group of around 25, and I'm fairly certain they only interview on Wednesdays.

My application definitely found its way to the bottom of the mail cart...They should see it soon though. Some people get the short end of the stick as far as timing goes, but I really like how buffalo keeps spots open until the end...so there is no effect on your chances if your file is reviewed late in the game...and it IS late in the game. The waiting is intense though - its that elephant in the room.

I respect the quick turnaround time from initial review to interview/reject, no run around with silent rejections and what not.

I think most people have found out "non-accept" statuses via the online status checker. I assume II's come through e-mail.

They don't give you this link directly in the complete emails, but can be found via one of the links they do provide you.
Thanks - They should be getting to our applications soon. I am interested to see what will happen. I personally am coming into this thing with a very high GPA but a rather uninteresting MCAT score. My EC's are abundant and unique too...we shall see. I am glad to know there is a holistic review and that they aren't just saying it - I know a lot of schools say its holistic but you know they have cut-offs.

Still haven't been rejected. Buffalo, I kinda want to interview with you...please? :luck:

completed mid-january and still waiting to hear back.
I know its random who they will review next but really hoping it is me =0)

Edit: do you guys know the max amount of Letters of Rec for SUNY Buffalo - submitted 5. and wanted to send one more from a physician i've been working with over the last year. Thanks in advance for the help!!

I have decided that my application is going to be at the top of the stack today :naughty:

I don't think they have a max number of letters of rec. On my interview day, the dean was adamant that his reviewers read every one of their applicant's letters, no matter how many. That being said, make sure you don't include any letters of rec from your mom or your girlfriend. The Dean told us all that this happened in recent years. He found it funny, but it probably didn't bode too well for the applicant.

I'm surprised we didn't hear anything at the end of this week as far as interview invites go, but then again, due to match day, I am sure every one was super busy! Hopefully this upcoming week!

Does anyone know if the essay could count against you? what do they use it towards?

When I interviewed there back in January, Dr. Severin told us that the essay would only be used to gather quotes from accepted applicants, which would be read aloud during the white coat ceremony. Not sure if he was putting us on simply to ease our nerves or not, but he seems like a trustworthy guy so I take him at his word.

Edit: Correct me if I am wrong, but I am assuming that this is in reference to the "pop essay" that we write during the interview day.

Are you a fellow "secondary application received" person? I do appreciate the reportedly fast turnaround of Buff, from review to interview decision and from interview to admissions decision. I know it will sting if I am rejected here, but the process seems to be very efficient, from what fellow applicants have said.

still no word yet. u guys think i have a decent shot for an ii being from OOS with a 3.68o/3.65s and 32L? welp wishing for the best =p. :luck:

I would say the strength of your ECs will either make or break your chance. Your GPA is good and is similar to the other GPAs that are being given notice by the ADCOM. Your MCAT score is also competitive. However, being an OOS'er, you are at a slight disadvantage. If your ECs stand out, specifically volunteer work and other humanitarian efforts, it could work in your favor. All the best!
