Don't they usually wait until it gets closer to Halloween?

When did you you all interview?

If you're instate, what GPA and MCAT scores are likely needed for acceptance? (assuming good LORs and ECs as well).

I interviewed like in mid September. I haven't heard back, I don't think anyone has yet. But here are my stats for reference, and I'm assuming they are okay and good enough for acceptance hopefully lol.

In state
BCPM: 3.99
cGPA: 3.98
MCAT: 33 Q
Good ECs, 3 years research, shadowing, etc etc.

I know few first years with mcat scores ranging from 28-34 and GPAs averaging at about a 3.75.

Last year acceptances were sent out on the 27th, which correlates to today I believe, at around 5 PM.

Hey--I interviewed early Oct and haven't heard, but like ^^ that guy said, I don't think anyone has. Here are my #s and info for reference, but I'm not so sure it matters. As long as your stats are decent, UAB seems to really put a lot of emphasis on leadership, volunteering, and shadowing (particularly in primary care)

In state
MCAT: 33R
sGPA: 3.64
cGPA: 3.71
NYU graduate / non-traditional
2 years research experience

Does everyone have the status: "Interview Complete - Remain Under Consideration"?

that's awesome, congratulations!!! I noticed that you said you interviewed in mid-September. Were you early decision by any chance?

Nope. I applied for regular decision. I believe that my interview group was the first regular decision group to be interviewed though

Any acceptances from the 10/11 interview or later?

Also curious.

I'm actually a parent, not a student. My student interviewed the first week in Oct.

Instate
32 MCAT 11 11 10
4.0 BCMP ...... 3.99 cum

Congrats on the acceptance. Was it by email?

Interviewed 10/25 and still under consideration. I'm pretty sure everyone who has been interviewed was considered, though, because Dr. Smith said at orientation that a few of us would receive acceptances on 10/26.

Yes. They send you an email letting you know, but they also tell you that your official acceptance letter will come by mail along with some information about the deposit and when classes start. They also say that they will email us about our campus preferences and when we can submit those.

Long time lurker here. I interviewed at UAB on Oct. 4th and got excepted this past Friday Oct. 26. Just thought I could give a little into insight to those of you who are waiting. Good luck to everyone!

Not early decision
ISS
MCAT 30
GPA 4.0

Anyone have insight into how often the adcom meets? Maybe once a month?

It says on their website that they send out acceptances once per month. Also, for anybody who might be interested, I interviewed on 9/20 and was accepted this past Friday- 10/26.

In-State
MCAT- 34
GPA- 3.95

Man it is going to be real tough having to wait at least a month to find out if we got accepted. At least there is no reason to stress about not hearing from them for a week or two.

I was under the impression that everyone who interviewed before 10/26 would have heard in the first group if accepted, but really hope I'm wrong! Still haven't heard of anyone getting accepted who interviewed after 10/4, so maybe we will hear back in the next batch...Waiting until March doesn't sound like a lot of fun.

For those of you who have interviewed, where did you guys stay? It doesn't seem like UAB has a hosting system.

Luckily it doesn't work quite like that (i.e. either now or March). For each wave, acceptances are sent out to all interviewees who meet the minimum score threshold. Depending on how that threshold changes, you could be accepted any time between now and March. Hope that makes you feel a little better!

Did no waitlisting come out in this round?

So, what do you think the minimum "score threshold" was for this last wave? And was the score a combo of GPA, MCAT, and interview?

Hah wish I could say! UAB is very transparent about their process, but I don't think they release that information. The score is certainly a combo of GPA, MCAT, and interview, however.

I stayed at the Comfort Inn off of Summit Parkway. It was just a couple (maybe only one) exit before UAB. Took only a few minutes to get there.

I think the price on the hotel was ~$100. One of the cheaper options compared to others that were online.

When do y'all think the next round of acceptances will come out?

does anybody have any input on this? i only recently heard it

It's not necessarily true. For each wave of acceptances, UAB takes all candidates who meet the minimum score threshold. Assuming that UAB interviews those with the highest MCAT/GPA first, it's reasonable to expect the score threshold to fall as time goes on.

I have been told by several UAB adcom members it is not uncommon to wait a few months for an acceptance (in fact, that is more the norm than rapid acceptance). Dr. Smith echoed this sentiment during orientation on interview day. We just have to be patient!

As for how often the adcom sends acceptances, I believe it's monthly. Considering the first wave was sent Oct. 26th, I would expect the next wave to be late November/early December (don't hold me to it though!).

I concur with the minimum score threshold. However, it seems that last year's thread had someone accepted arround 11/18 which would fall around this coming friday (11/16)...if not, around Thanksgiving I hope..

Just got the campus preference email. I was hoping it was the acceptance email, back to the waiting game.

Son just got the campus preference email as well.

Is that an indication of anything? or is it just pro forma for all that were interviewed?

Has anyone here interviewed and NOT gotten the campus preference email?

does anybody know if you find out your campus assignment when you get accepted or if it comes later?

If campus preference doesn't play into decisions, I wonder why UAB would bother asking BEFORE acceptance. Seems like an unnecessary step to do with students who won't be ultimately accepted. Why not wait til accepted?

Since I'm just a parent, maybe I'm not seeing the need for this step at this point. Besides, isn't the "campus preference" for years 3 and 4? If so, again, why the need to know BEFORE acceptance?

Looking at the possible statuses on the secondary app, it looks like you find out your assignment when you're accepted.

Anyone that interviewed on the 25th hear back yet?

Ahh....and the assignment is for years 3 and 4, right? But, they want to "divvy up" the future year 3 and 4 students ahead of time?

Ok....I can see that.

As far as I know, you are accepted via e-mail first. In the weeks following that e-mail, you'll receive an official acceptance letter that includes your campus assignment.
I was accepted via e-mail in October and am now waiting for my official letter with campus assignment.

Long time lurker here, and this is my first post. For any underdogs out there, I'm an ISS with a 27M MCAT and 3.92 GPA. I just received my interview invite from UAB on 11/12, and I will be interviewing on 12/6. So keep your heads up.

I don't know how UAB looks at it but 3.92 - rock solid.

when was your application complete? and with all due respect, you are far from an underdog

Maybe he feels he's an underdog because of his 27 MCAT score? What is the MCAT breakdown? A 27 MCAT 9 9 9 is different from a 27 MCAT 12 8 7

Since emails went out this week asking for campus choice, then if you were to allow 2 weeks to review the responses, it would seem that November decisions will come out the last Friday of the month.
