Just because I hate that the trend is going towards more people getting their Masters before being accepted into med school. Being IS, I know quite a few people who applied to Iowa and were rejected a first time but then were accepted after they got their Masters. I don't think it necessarily adds that much, in fact I think most Masters programs are kind of something you do while you're sitting around waiting to get into medical school (no offense intended to anyone getting their Masters). I just think it's stupid that I have to pay $20,000+ and waste two years of my life to get my Masters in order to get into medical school. I know other people will tell me that no matter what the price it will be worth it when I'm accepted, but it's hard for me to see things that way.

Yeah, that masters thing seems a little silly to me

Thanks!

It's not about "sitting around"--it's about growing up, gaining real experiences, living your life, etc. They don't want you to do it just to do it. They want you to do it in a program that will benefit you, and trust me, there are plenty of master's programs that would benefit recent graduates.

The Carver thread is my favorite school thread.

Are you trying to butter up the adcoms who might match you to your SDN account? Good idea 🙂

Carver College of Medicine is the perfect school for me and I will donate all of money once I graduate from there

I hope we see some IIs from Iowa soon! This thread is pretty quiet most of the time.

+10000

I really love this school...

When people ask me where I would go if I got in every one of my schools I say, "it's a dead tie between Iowa and one other school". The looks that follow that statement are hysterical

I'm on the edge of my seat, too!

Looking through last year's thread, people started posting about II's during the last week of August. We're almost through the first week of September and I haven't heard a peep about interviews, yet. It's driving me nuts! I've been checking this thread several times each day for any word. I hope we all hear something soon!

Need it. Want it.

I had to change my avatar for college football season... hopefully the Iowa State game will be less embarrassing than last weekend's game!

Interview invite!!
In state, 3.9, 32P. Good luck everyone!

Alright, alright! C'mon Iowa, be kind to me.

Now that I know IIs are going out, I'm gonna jump through the ceiling every time my phone beeps to tell me I have a new email!

to those with II's... When were you guys marked complete?

Invite OOS!...complete 8/1...and does anyone have any recommendations for transportation from the east coast? The cheapest flight I found was over $500!

Oh God. II are going out. NERVOUS AS HELL OMG

Interview invite last night, complete 8/1, notified via email.

Anyone have any idea how Iowa would respond to an "In the Area" e-mail?

I'm supposedly in the 1st batch of OOS applications they review if those stats posted earlier are right, so I was kind of hoping to hold out and see if they send me a decision soon, but my Nebraska interview is now a month away so I don't think I can wait much longer ha.

For those early invites, wouldn't they also be catering to anyone who's doing early admission?

OOS, complete 8/22, waiting to hear...

No invite for me, yet. But I wasn't complete until 8/16. Maybe I'll get lucky with the next wave of invites! :xf:

I'm flying into Cedar Rapids on 9/20 and leaving on 9/21. I plan on renting a car. Anyone interested in ride-sharing please PM.

My only reservation about Iowa is football.

I went to a liberal arts college to escape football.

I can't even deal.

You'll be converted lol. My roommate freshman year at Iowa HATED football but after one semester she was as ridiculous (awesome) as the rest of the hawkeye football fans 😀 And the good news is I hear CCOM has tests on Friday mornings so you get the weekend "off" to watch football!

I know roughly 15 students, all years, at Carver. Most of them are currently in kinnick.... GO HAWKS

👍 Wish I was there! My sister and my dad are, but I had too much to do this weekend. So instead of getting my stuff done I've just been listening to the game and on SDN all day........

Haha. I grew up in football country. I had 10 years to convert. It's not going to happen.

Fair enough 🙂 I'm also slightly kidding... sure, things get pretty crazy in Iowa City for a few weekends each fall, but most of the time there is plenty to do if you're not into football.

TRYING SO VERY HARD TO TRUST IN KIRK....

For the record, i'm a girl, and I hate the NFL and well, football. But I love Iowa football 🙂

I'm a girl as well! And I never got into the NFL so it's just college football for me.

Sometimes flights into Des Moines are less expensive than into Cedar Rapids. But, you'll have to rent a car and Des Moines is about an hour-and-a-half away.

Why won't you show me any love, Iowa? 🙁

I got an II today! 3.33s/3.56c/29Q, In State. I'm trying to figure out when to schedule it... I only have four dates to pick from, the first of which is NEXT WEEK which is a little soon... yikes!!

Update: I signed up for Sept 19th (next week).

Congrats and good luck next week! I look forward to reading about your interview experience on this thread. I was surprised by how many dates were available so close to the invite date, too, and decided to sign up for Sep 24 to give my nerves a little while to calm down. I don't know if 2 weeks will be enough time!

Thank you 🙂 Yeah, unfortunately, the other dates they offered me didn't work because they were during a week where I already have two interviews scheduled. I have another interview on Thursday next week that I was already preparing for, so I figured... what the hell... let's interview at Iowa on Wednesday. My sister lives there so I can stay with her the night before and it's not a far drive at all.

I'll be sure to write up a detailed description when I get home so you know what to expect! Good luck with your preparations.

With which other schools do you have interviews? I have a few others coming up, as well, so if we're interviewing at some of the same places, I'd love to get your feedback.

All DO Schools so far. DMU, MWU-CCOM, MWU-AZCOM, ATSU-KCOM, LECOM-E.

Iowa is the first MD school I have heard back from, but I only applied to 4 MD schools. Which schools do you have interview at?
