So for all the random ifs and maybes that circulate about the the final pool it is hard to know what is and what is not. I bumped into one of the professors that wrote my letter of recommendation last week and completely forgot that he was on the admissions board for CCOM for years. At the time I just thought he was being nice when he said that if I made it into the final pool that I'm "so damn close to getting in", but then i remembered that he is very straight forward and he was on the admissions board. So that is good news to us all that if we made it this far we are so freaking close to getting in. They do reject a lot of people before this point and if you got this far then you have a very real chance of getting in. Hope this helps everyone keep up hope until the letters come.

You are my favorite person on SDN right now, haha. I don't have classes on Mondays, so I've had a lot of time today to a) sit on SDN, and b) subsequently panic... but this post made me feel a lot better.

Thanks for the positivity! 👍

Received a nifty little package from the CCOM Office of Cultural Affairs and Diversity today. Inside was a nice letter and a hawker t-shirt! It was a nice touch! Really love how friendly and caring Carver is! It's the little things that count 🙂.

How long after you got accepted did you get that?

Also, for accepted students has anyone received the IVF form in the mail? It's already March and I submitted FAFSA a while ago yet I have received nothing.

I think you need to print it out yourself and send it in. On the fin aid page for the IVF form, make sure that click on the box in the upper right and go to 'fall 2013' to find the form. Took me while to figure that out haha.

Submitted everything for fin aid about two weeks ago and still waiting to hear.

Ahh I found it. That's a bummer though 🙁. Here I was waiting for it and it was there all the time. I hope its not too late now. Luckily they give the option to fax it, which is what I'm going to do. Thanks for your help falcinator!

Withdrew my acceptance yesterday... Hope it goes to one of you guys still in final pool! Best of luck!

Just to add/subtract the anxiety, does anyone know if the final decision letter arrives to one's permanent or current address? :what:

I'm assuming current....otherwise half the applicants parents' would get the letter. =)

Depends on what you put on your secondary application. If you log in and go to where it says "contact information", the address that they are sending your letter to will be there!

Anyone else getting super nervous? I'm guessing we are going to hear Tuesday of next week... and I am freaking out! :scared:

Perhaps their last adcom meeting was yesterday and we can even hear at the end of this week? Wouldn't that be nice! Haha a girl can dream

Super nervous would be the understatement of the year! I'm just trying to keep busy by studying for my exams this week and randomly cleaning my house when I can't stand to sit still any longer (my roommates are loving that part I think). Fingers crossed for Tuesday or sooner. Preferably the later.

Last year they came out on a Wednesday, and two years ago on a Thursday....perhaps tomorrow is our day? I feel like we should be placing bets or something. My feeling is Friday. Or next Wednesday. =) NERVES. 🙁

I'm thinking it'll be next week :/... in less than a week, we will all probably know! eek.

Hola! Is there anyone (female) who would be interested in living in a nice 3 or 4 bedroom apartment? Once we get a group together, we could start looking for apartments.

Seems like no one is posting in ICON, so I thought I'd give it a shot on sdn! Message me if you'd be interested!

I'm really hoping that for some reason you're wrong, ha (I don't meant that offensively!). I wonder if they're sending emails this year...

Should we be filling out this information if we are in the final pool? It seems like every other school wants you to fill out fin. aid stuff even if you are on the waitlist, but I get the impression that Iowa only wants fin. aid forms for accepted students. Also lots of feelings of :scared: for the big day coming up! :luck:

I started my FAFSA, but I think you can't really fill out anything else until you're accepted and received that school's paperwork.

Hahaha no problem... I hope I'm wrong, too! 🙂

When's Iowa's spring break? Aren't we supposed to hear before then?

Spring break is the week of the 17th and the very last day we are supposed to hear by is the 18th. However, in the past they have sent letters before the last day.

I hope so! I called on Monday and she said that people should receive their letter no later than March 18th... so letters HAVE to be going out next week. They might have a better idea of when they are going out now, though, if someone wants to call!

I'll give them a call on Monday and see what i can find out. I'll be sure to pass on what I learn 🙂

This is my 4th time applying to CCOM so I have some experience with the final pool. I am an in-state student.

The first year I was final pooled and then rejected. I received the letter via snail mail the Friday prior to spring break. (The equivalent of March 15th this year).

The second year I was final-pooled and then waitlisted. I received that letter either the Thursday or Friday before spring break. I started at 48 on the waitlist and ended at 19.

Last year I was final-pooled and waitlisted yet again. They sent out emails again the Thursday or Friday before spring break saying that they had mailed letters with decisions. I received the letter the next day (I live in Iowa City). However, I had a couple friends who were accepted from the final pool and they received acceptance EMAILS after the original email was sent. Despite the fact that admissions staff stressed on interview day that all final pool decisions would be sent by snail mail. Last year I started the waitlist at 36 and ended at 5.

This year I am stuck in the final pool one more time. I have finished my MPH and work now with research at Student Health and am hoping for better news. However, I have the solace of an acceptance from the in-state DO school in case that doesn't happen.

Wow Imwehr, you are a model of perseverance.

I hope you get in this time!

I completely agree with the timeline given. This is only my second year applying, but everything I experienced as an OOS candidate was in line with what you have shared. I too was in the final pool last year and my alternate list notification was postmarked 3/6/12 (Not arriving for several days because I am in Oregon). I started at #20 on the OOS alternate list last year and ended at #3 when class started in August. So close, yet one year away.

Back in the final pool and looking forward to checking the mail this week. Hope this helps! Here is to getting in this time around!

Fourth time applying? They should let you in just for persistence.

As promised I gave the admissions office a call today to ask about letters and what I got wasn't very helpful. The lady did not sound very informed when I asked her if letters had come out yet and the response I received was that letters will be sent out "mid-March" followed up by her announcing that letters should be sent out Friday at the latest. I am not putting a ton of stock in what she said due to the fact that she sounded like she wasn't in the loop too much, but I thought I would at least share with you what I heard. I'm personally going to keep holding my breath every time I open the mailbox this week and staring out the window waiting for the mailman to come.

Seriously loving the persistence and all of the helpful information in your post. Honestly, if Iowa waitlists you again, it's their loss. I have first hand experience with DMU and I love it there - it's not a bad school at all. If I get accepted at Iowa it will seriously be a tough decision for me to decide between Iowa and DMU.

I know not everyone feels the same way and some people like to hate on DO schools, but DMU just has such a great environment and I prefer the city of Des Moines to Iowa City any day - it's more of a "grown up" city, if you will.

Good luck to all of us in the final pool! Have fun stalking your mailman this week!

I agree. Des Moines is an excellent city. I LOVE it. And I finally was able to visit DMU last week (I interviewed during a huge snowstorm when campus was closed) and really liked the school. Additionally I have worked with probably a hundred different residents over the last 3 years here at Iowa and all the DMU grads I have worked with have been excellent. Not a bad school by any means.

Just thought I'd put peoples' nerves at ease a bit; I live in Iowa City and no mail today guys. Enjoy your evening so you can go back to freaking out tomorrow! Lol

Looks like it definitely won't be until the end of the week.

Letters did NOT go out today, so you can relax tomorrow, too!

At this rate, we may not even get the letter until Monday of next week (those of us instate, at least)... here's to more waiting!

I want to go home for spring break starting Friday, but I'm not leaving till I get that damn letter. 🙁

Just so we can all obsess a little more about letters...I dug through my gmail archives to see exactly when letters went out.

2010: Thursday, March 11
2011: Tuesday, March 8
2012: Wednesday, March 7

Always before spring break. We have to be getting close.

Did they always send accompanying emails to accepted students?

I heard through the grapevine that letters will go out tomorrow AT THE LATEST.

I'm thinking it could be by the end of the day today!

I just got the acceptance email!!! My 4 years of persistance have paid off!!!
