Does anyone know anything about interview day? Specifically who might be interviewing us? I think we have 2 individual interviews but I was wondering if it will be MD's, faculty members or medical students? Thanks!
I interviewed last year. They have staff from the school, local and regional physicians, old deans of medicine, alumni, etc. There were no active medical school students interviewing you. You get 1 interview, have lunch in the main room with some current students, chat with them, do a little Q n A with them, then conduct your second interview and then tour the campus.

I'm thinking I'll have no luck here as an OOS applicant, especially since I only have a 31 (and they say competitive OOS applicants will have a 32+...)

However, I'd really love to be considered here. My question is, should I inform them of my lame state ties? Some of my family is from Kentucky (my grandfather, his parents, their parents, etc.), although no close relatives currently live there.

Definitely tell them. Family ties aren't lame. We get culture from family. I got an interview, and my GPA (3.17) is way below their preference for OOS, so be confident.

Thanks! I was just worried that I don't have any really close family there, but I do feel a personal connection to the state.

BTW, awesome username 👍

Yea I received the secondary on 7/24, submitted secondary 7/26, interview invite 7/30. At that point, the earliest interview date for non-Early Decision Application was 10/9.

I am applying OOS and was wondering if anyone has knowledge of the UK area/community. Also, I am planning my flight soon...any suggestions where to fly into/hotel stay?

Thanks!

Just got an II this morning and the calendar's showing some dates available for regular applicants in august/september...did those just open up for regular applicants since previously the earliest date for regulars was 10/9?

Interview invite!!
Out of state but family in Kentucky. Non-impressive stats.

But yay!!! 😀

hey guys
for those of you not from lexington or nearby,
where are you planning to stay/heard was good to stay (hotels/inns) for a night before interview?
any suggestions from the locals or others?

Interview scheduled for 9/11 - regular applicant

How does this school grade? I can't find information anywhere...

P/F, H/P/F, or A/B/C/F?

They grade on a percentage basis that isn't directly translated into letter grades. The atmosphere, as far as I could tell from my last tour/interview, was more based on teamwork and cooperation than gunners and competition.

Also is anyone else interviewing this Tuesday?

interview incoming this Tuesday. looking forward to meeting our fellow SDNers at UK.

Thanks, I guess you do get two chances.

I applied for regular MD program. I guess, it is too late to switch it to RPLP.

Does anyone know if AMCAS will let you can go back and switch to RPLP? Will this delay processing if my app is already verified? The AMCAS site keeps giving me "error #777263" and won't let me long in right now. 😕

Edit: I was able to change my AMCAS designation to the rural program with no extra processing time in case anyone is wondering. After looking into the program a little further, I'm really excited to apply!

Just got Interview Invite. OOS(Canadian) Submitted 08/19, Complete: not sure but must've been soon after.
Completely surprised by this.

Got an interview invite as well! Canadian OOS, II Submitted 08/24, Interviewing 9/15

Wow, I was complete 8/20 and just got an interview invite for the rural track Oct 12th and 13th! Can't wait!

A few interview slots opened up from last week for those of you who got an invite. I was stuck with a November date but just picked up 9/11. Good thing I was procrastinating on buying a plane ticket.

And I am lucky enough to be staying with my sister, so I can't help with the hotel search, sorry. 🙁

Looking forward to seeing you guys in September! 👍

I was originally scheduled to interview on 10/9 but I changed my reservation to 9/11 (Thanks for the heads up, MissGranger 🙂

For all you still looking for an interview slot, there's one available for regular applicants on 10/9...Good Luck!

Anybody find it odd that they list the name, email, and phone numbers of interviewees for everyone to see?

It is odd, but it might be so they we can contact each other to help with travel and lodging.

Submitted my app a couple days ago 😀 Hope to hear some (good) news soon! I'm really excited about UK, but I'm OOS, so I'm a bit worried.

Submitting my secondary in the next few days! Do you think it's too late?? UK moves fast!

Do people get the chance to know in advance who they will be interviewed with?

Is there any disadvantage to your chances at UK if you push your interview date 2 weeks from mid september to late september?

I already interviewed and did not know who would be interviewing me. Of course, I also didn't ask beforehand so I have no idea what they would tell you if you e-mailed to ask.

For those who interviewed, how did it go?! Any comments or feedback 🙂

Just received a phone call from UK Financial Aid office: I got the offer!

Applied to the EDP. Interviewed on Aug 21st.

Good luck to everyone else! UK is amazing!

Just received my phone call from Dr. Noonan. Accepted!!

Congrats to you Dillon

Probably not. As long as you're interviewing before December you're G2G

I emailed the office of admissions last week to see if they would let me know who would be interviewing me. They told me that they do not let students know who will be interviewing them ahead of time.

Anyone who interviewed know if they end the day promptly at 1? What's the last activity of the day (the tour)? I'm trying to drive back to Louisville and catch a flight out at 3:40 PM. Gonna be cutting it close. Not too familiar with the area, but I don't think I should have too much of a problem with traffic on a Saturday.

They end with a tour, but if you have to catch a flight you can certainly skip/leave the tour early (though I think it was very enlightening.) But as someone who has driven from Lexington to Louisville airport several times. Its going to take you every bit of 1.5 hours and if it's a game day or something Lexington traffic can be ugly. But if you leave at 1 you should be fine for 3:40.

Congrats! When is it scheduled for?

I'm sending in my secondary this weekend.. I'm just hoping it won't be too late and there will still be interviews available before January!

I haven't decided. I'll probably schedule for late september, but I'd hate to make multiple trips if I get invited to nearby schools that I've applied to.

Early Admission Acceptance on 9-8-12. I am now a community member too! Good luck to all you guys!

James

Some relief for those asking. I had my interview and was the only one not in a full suit. I felt like maybe I had already spelled my doom. Everyone was sociable, but the tension was thick. I was nervous and rightly so, because everyone interviewing with me had incredible credentials (grad school, high scores, etc.), but from the second I walked into my first interview room (done in the practice patient exam rooms BTW) it was relaxed. My interviewer told me 3 times to relax before we ever started. These interviewers are there to meet you and learn about you. If and when they like you, there is no pressure to answer trick questions or anything like that. My two individual interviewers were laid back, off topic at times, and just exciting people. They kept building me up, making me more confident. I awaited, still uncertain, but got my phone call at 6:45 Friday (9-07)!

Finishing up my app this week (tomorrow:xf:) and hoping for an II soon!! Long-time UK fan but OOS. Rejected pre-secondary last year but improved my MCAT by 5 points, so hoping that I don't get rejected post-secondary this year!! Good luck to everyone else still trying to finish up all these applications!

Some random bit of (potentially) good news for everybody interested in KY: They are expanding this next class from 120 to 138 students. No indication of how those extra 18 chairs will be distributed between IS and OOS applicants, but that certainly helps the odds a good amount. Apologies if the class being much smaller than UofL was a big selling point on you being interested in UK.

I was just placed on a "screening hold for comparison"
With a less than 30 mcat I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but this is so disappointing. Sigh...

Well, I know plenty of people who have both interviewed and been accepted <30. Having an above average GPA helps and without knowing the exact number and breakdown it's hard to predict whether your MCAT score alone put you on hold, but I am inclined to believe that they value the entire application. UK certainly isn't a number crunching school.

Got the II for Rural Program!
Secondary was submitted for weeks, AMCAS finally verified last Thursday.

I've been Preliminary Screening Completed since early july, what does that mean!?

just got an II !..3.99 GPA ...very balanced MCAT - 30..my application was complete at 9 am on Sept 17........got the email at 5.40 on the same day!!....about to schedule an interview!..........btw..I'm an international student.

Probably not. As long as you're interviewing before December you're G2G

Not true. By december, the class is usually full, and folks are just added as spots get opened up from people switching b/w schools.

Earlier is better at UK. Repeat that in your head until you believe it.

Also, somebody above said something about getting stuck in limbo b/w acceptance and denial... that is a good time to call and tell them how interested you are. Don't be a jerk about it, but just say you'd really like the opportunity b/c they are high on your list.

BTW, I'm an M4 here at UK if you all have any questions.

I interviewed at UK last week and it is definitely one of my top choices--I emailed my interviewer the next day thanking him for the opportunity.

Who would I call to follow up and express my interest to get into UK?
