Accepted 🙂 got a phone call from dr. weisman himself!

nowwwww how can i get added to the fb group !!!

The current M1 admins will send you an invite to the secret group in about a month from acceptance

i interviewed 2/15, was put on the alternate list, and got the call today around noon that i was accepted to the md program

Does anyone know if the accepted MD/MPH students have to let Miami know they are going to matriculate earlier than the May 15th deadline?

Can anyone comment on Miller's grading system? Some say it's true pass/fail, others say it's pass/fail with a grade.

From my understanding, it's H/P/F and they rank internally. I think they'd still report your internal rank to residency programs (but apparently preclinical grades aren't that important anyway). Basing this off of my interview day. Current student might give you a better answer.

It is pass fail but with a number written by the pass (85, for example). Source: an MS1

2nd look is fri. April12 !!!!!! 😍

Is Miami accepting people off the waitlist? I thought there are specific dates as to when they accept

Does anyone know how many people are accepted at each committee meeting?

From what I understood during the interview orientation, the Miami ADCOM pulls the "Top 20" candidates at each meeting, the next meeting being April 17th at 4pm. To the best of my knowledge, April 17th is the last ADCOM meeting before the May 15th AMCAS deadline. 😱 Here we go.

Hrm, I've been waiting quite a while on a reply from Miller 🙁.

I actually interviewed back in mid-December and still haven't heard back..
How is UM's turnover rate for waitlist kids?
Also, I had heard that status updates throughout the acceptance process are supposed to help. Do they actually?

Thanks!:scared:

No rejection? No acceptance? No waitlist? If you haven't heard anything at all, I would definitely call. I interviewed around the same time and heard back in January. Something doesn't seem right.

I was waitlisted back in february and then accepted a few days ago with a call from Dean Weisman 🙂

Just curious, was anyone who is on the alternate list invited to second look? Or is it only for accepted students?

can any current students let me know what is the metro stop of the school? I just got to Miami and I am staying at the Hyatt. I am planning to take the metro tomorrow and I just need to know the right stop! 🙂

Civic center! See you tomorrow 🙂

Ah, I was waitlisted. But I wanted to hear back more than being on a waitlist for more than a few months 🙁

Just made the choice for the MD-MPH program. So someone who is waiting for a spot in the MD program will have a spot now! 🙂

Should I find it weird that I haven't heard anything at all since submitting my secondary in October? I figured by this point I would at least have a rejection.. have the interviews ended?

Hey, I'm not sure how they deal with informing applicants if you are not invited to an interview but the interviews did indeed conclude on Friday the 29th. Best of luck to you.

Can anyone comment about the financial state of Miller and how it would affect med students? There was an article in the Miami Herald a couple of years ago that talked about the school having to let go of several many researchers and faculty members because of financial constraints. I was under the impression that UM was in good shape now but I hear from some people that more cuts will have to be made and prominent figures are still leaving at a considerable pace. Any insights?

Just got the rejection. Not surprised. Good luck all.

I was told on my interview day that this would not affect the students or the quality of medical education, and after asking several students, M1-M4, what they said seems to be true. Bottom line, if you want to do research in a certain field, you will find faculty who will take you under their wing. I am not worried about it whatsoever as an incoming M1.

Anyone know how to get an expedited fb group invitation? Just got accepted into the MD/MPH program and want to be able to find a roommate!

congrats! when did you interview? did you find out via email or phone?

From what I've heard, it won't be until mid-May, i.e. after you decide you want to go to UM.
What makes you say this? I received my scholarship offer with my acceptance.....

Would someone who has been accepted mind telling those of us that are on the alternate list how many people are in the Facebook group? Miami is my top choice, but I want to be realistic about my chances moving forward and it would be nice to have something to go off of...

There are 202 ppl in the Fb group. But honestly, I don't feel that tells you anything because you do not know how many of those ppl are really going to attend UM.

Thank you for this information. I'd like to clarify a couple of things, though...

1) most students live within 5-10 miles of the campus. People who live with their parents or who have big houses for their family tend to live farther, ie: 19 miles away.

2) If you live within 5 miles of campus the traffic is fine in general.

3) I live 4 exits south (3/4 mile from Brickell) and it takes me about 7-15 minutes door to door in the AM depending on time. It takes me about the same to get home at nearly any given time of day. I drive.

4) I have lived in North Beach, Coconut Grove, the Roads and Midtown over the past 6 years and am happy to answer questions about commuting on here.

Hello DrZeke, other current students, locals, or anyone who knows about housing in the area - I was accepted about a week ago and am in need to find housing ASAP because I need to move to the area a few months before MS1 starts. I'm yet to be added to the fb group so I'm asking you guys here. What are good ways to look for studios or 1 bedroom apartments??? Are realtor.com, rent.com and craigslist pretty much our options? Thank you very much!

There is a really cool MS1 who I met at Second Look who happens to be a realtor also. He posted a few days ago on the Facebook page and I know you don't have access, so I'll private message you his info.

Also, I'm not sure where you plan on living, but if you just google "condos in Brickell for rent", you'll find tons of private owners/buildings putting up condos for lease. I'm sure you could also drive around other popular areas for students and talk to the rental managers and get info and tours that way.

Hello all! Has anyone who interviewed in March heard back?... I interviewed mid-march and was told that the adcom was 4/17... Still waiting to hear anything from them... Called today and was stonewalled by the woman who answered the phone... May 15th is coming up and I'd like to know my options🙂
