Has anyone who applied MD/PhD heard anything Back yet?

My PIs said they got emails from Pitt saying they wanted them to fill some stuff out. They did it.

I want an interview!!!! Rawr!!!!

My PI asked me when I met with him yesterday. I'm excited about Pitt 🙂.

Nope. But I'm still waiting on my letter packet to arrive at my schools, so that's probably why.

I got my PIs to send letters in and everything is complete both for MD and MSTP but no word yet. Maybe they want more MSTP apps to compare? I think we're usually on a slower schedule.

Excited to apply here. Definitely a great school and will hope for an interview!

When I logged into the UPSOM online application, I only see the "admission data form" and "enrichment" tab. Everything else disappeared. Do you guys know what's going on?

Does anyone know if they accept one semester of general chemistry lab here because that's what my college offered and it was a comprehensive lab..we were not required take a year of chem lab? So would this medical school let me apply here?

You should call the admissions office and ask, they are very helpful. If that is all your school offered (if there was no general chemistry 2 lab) then I don't see why there would be a problem, but it would be best to ask first.

Been following this thread for a while so I thought I'd finally jump in!

To add to the conversation about the review timeline, I received the secondary on 7/20, submitted 7/22, II 7/23. In terms of LORs I did not have all of mine in, but I did have 3 so my file was considered complete, but these were kinda my "extra" ones, only one was academic and my two science ones aren't in yet. Needless to say I was surprised with the quick turn-around, but I also have to agree with everyone else who has said it is SO early in the season I I wouldn't worry too much for those of you waiting!!

Complete on 7/21. I was wait-listed here last cycle and thought I had a much better app. Looks like I have to prepare myself to move out of Pittsburgh because my Pitt dream is dying by the day.

I'm going to have to avoid saying "Penguins suck" at my interview. Philly Cheesesteak, ooooh yeeeeah.

Received an interview invitation this afternoon. So grateful to be given this opportunity.

Verified 7/26
Received secondary 7/27
Secondary submitted 7/29

Haha, the exact same timeline as IncognitoGuy. 🙂

Nice! What day did you decide on?

September 28th... I live in Pittsburgh, but I have to be back in Chicago for school RA training from September 9th-27th (two days before the next available interview date). fml. I contacted the admissions office to see if I could slip in with an earlier interview day, but they said they could't accommodate my request. Looks like I have to shell out $300 for a plane ticket back home for one day. Ugh. I'm not even in med school yet, and I'm already so. broke.

Got my interview invite today! Verified 7/26, received secondary 7/27, sent it 7/29.

It's actually happening!

Do you mind sharing your stats?

Have you considered just getting a hotel for 1-2 nights? It could save you money and time commuting. Good luck with the interview!

Nope. But I'm still waiting on my letter packet to arrive at my schools, so that's probably why.

Just got an interview for MSTP today. It's a two-day interview with one day for MSTP and the second for MD.

Invite! I guess I shouldn't have gotten so down.

First interview invite. Thank you UPSOM!

Just throwing this out there but would any Pitt Med student be willing to do a mock interview with me? I live 5 minutes from the school. I was wait-listed last cycle so I'm trying to do everything I can to get an acceptance at Pitt this time around. Please PM if this is something you could do.

Can I piggy back on this as well? If there are any students willing to run through some interview questions with me, it'd be greatly appreciated. I'll even buy you a Caribou or Starbucks. 🙂 PM me if you'd be down!

secondary submitted 7/19
interview invite 7/29 🙂

I feel like absolutely everyone with high stats applies here, maybe hence the ~1000 interviews they give out. Anyone know what their retention rate is for acceptances-to-matriculates? It look like their cut off is mostly after interviews rather than before them, so between 1-in-5 and 1-in-8 interviews gets in.

Us news indicates that (historically) pitt accepts ~35% of those applicants that they interview.

Thanks, acceptances vs matriculates is a big difference, and I don't have USNews to check that.

For example, rather than the ~35% getting accepted post-interview, only ~15% actually matriculate.

Basically, I'm assuming >50% of their applicants have 'other' places to go -- likely either financial incentives to attend state schools or higher tier school acceptances, I would assume. I don't know how typical this is, but might explain why they hand out nearly 1000 interviews/year.

Haha, it's okay.

The breakdown for UPitt is basically (rounded to nearest whole number):

1 in 5 get interviews.

1 in 3 interviewees gets an acceptance.

1 in 2 accept their acceptance.

I know most schools frown upon pre-interview updates, but I was hired last month for a research position at Feinstein Institute studying leukemia, and I think it would make my app look a lot better, since I don't have very much research experience. Anyone have thoughts/advice about this?

It couldn't hurt. But honestly a month or so of recent research experience will not greatly enhace your app.

Last year they "only" interviewed 800  . This was a talking point at the interview. According to the admissions office they viewed it as 800 students were academically qualified to go to medical school, thus they wanted to see who was the best fit.

submit 7/28, no interview invite, is it silent rejection?

You submitted a week ago.....:slap:

Non-related: has anyone else received a phone call from UPSOM Adcom asking questions that weren't on the secondary?

But people submitted on 7/29 already got their interview invites.

There are many different factors above and beyond mere app stats that play a role, which we can't account for.

People get II's many months after they're marked as complete. A week is nothing in this process, so don't think you're "silently rejected" until you actually receive that rejection letter.

Keep your hopes up! 👍

FWIW, they interviewed ~850 students last year. They expect to cut that number to 750 this year. If you get an interview, you have almost a 50% shot of getting in based on last year's acceptance numbers.

But it at least shows they are not so interested in me🙁

Jumping in the Pitt fray!

One of the docs I work(ed) with went here and wanted all of the employees to do the same.

She loved it enough where this year I finally decided to give it a go, albeit a little late!

Good luck all (and to me :meanie:)!

Is it sad I'm hoping you're right?

I like improving my chances. Looking a them matriculating <16% of their interviewees was pretty intimidating. I really love the UPitt area, and it's going to cost a lot to get there. I'd really hate to have such a low chance of getting in. Hopefully that doesn't sound too egotistical...

made me feel a lot better 😀

Please, relax. It is August. Not a single seat will be filled for months. Go have a beer (if you're old enough) and watch some fit people run around on TV at the Olympics; it'll make you feel better.

I understand a week being early to contemplate silent rejection...but how about a month....as in my case? :tear tear: 🙁

Do current PittMed students know anyone that has gotten interviews after 1 month of being complete?

And with that said...anyone have a guess as to when the first rejections go out lol? 😳

What are your stats?

It seems like the vast majority of interviews have been applicants with > 3.8 and > 34.
