Anyone interviewing September 28th? 🙂

Interview invite yesterday night!! 3.7/35 OOS complete 8/6

Anyone know if there's an advantage to interviewing earlier on? Looking through the thread last year it looks like they only accept a few in November and waitlist the rest for quite a while. Earliest one I can choose is early October, but I'm thinking maybe I should pick one later in October to hopefully align with other East Coast interviews ...

It really doesn't matter when you interview. About 75% of applicants are waitlisted post-interview, and I believe only 10% are accepted outright. Therefore the vast majority of the class comes from the waitlist (I actually haven't yet met anyone in my class who was accepted outright on November 15).

My first II. Hooray! Not surprising considering they really expedite the process at Pitt. Chose 9/25, first date available, because why not.

For those wondering, I was complete 7/27. Stats: 42/3.53(with mitigating circumstances)

Would love to get an acceptance at Pitt and withdraw 90% of my other apps. 😛

I was complete 7/13, and nothing since. Should I be expecting a rejection come September?

Just got an II... I'm so excited I can't stop shaking ahh

I'll be there Monday!

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using SDN Mobile

For you guys that just recently got Interviews. Mind sharing when you were marked complete for pitt?

I am probably being extremely neurotic, but I sent an email to the admissions office with a question regarding the course requirements and I just realized I made a typo :/ Are emails sent to the admissions office kept on record? Will it come back to haunt me?

Sorry, Pitt only accepts people with meticulous spelling and grammar skills. 🙄

Chill, you're fine.

Anyone have an answer to this question?

Your question was probably already answered, but for anyone wondering, I emailed the admissions office about whether to write OT or semester hours and what to do if we ran out of room for some classes and this was the response:

"You can write your credits as they appear on your transcript. It is ok if you run out of room on the secondary for all of your courses. You can just write what you can. We are able to see your full AMCAS application so we will be able to see all of your coursework."

Based on that, I wouldn't worry too much about this portion of the secondary. They seem to be lenient and they understand that they have your AMCAS for a detailed list.

:laugh::laugh::laugh: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

When you start off with "I am probably being extremely neurotic," chances are you already know the answer. 😉 I had grammar errors in my AMCAS and they let me in. You're afraid a single typo in an email will keep you out of med school?? Seriously though, thank you for your post. It made me LOL 👍

I love SDN sometimes

Ppl on sdn are all gunnerz

 We all totally are. Why else would we be worried mid-august about whether or not we received II's yet. And to think, this time last year all I cared about was food, sleep, drink and waiting on MCAT scores.

what's the best way to get to campus (I'm staying at Hilton Garden Inn) from the airport?

28X Airport Flyer. $3.75 charge, comes every half-hour, will get you to campus in 50 minutes (maybe more during peak hours).

Interview invite today!! Stoked!

OOS, 3.66sgpa, 3.54cgpa, 33Q

Will be going 10/10!

Just curious, and sorry if this has already been discussed on this thread, but does Pitt do open-file interviews?? Also, does anyone know the format of interview day? MMI's, or is it individual interviewers? Thanks!

Two interviews, One with a student, one with a faculty member. Student is closed file, faculty is semi-open. IIRC they get your essays, but not your grades/course history/MCAT's.

I heard they like letters of interest here, but how early is too early? I submitted my secondary only 2 weeks ago, but there are a lot of reasons that I want to go to Pitt that I wasn't able to touch on. I know an appropriate time to send a LOI is after the interview, but I feel inclined to send one before that point.

Best of luck all! Hopefully I'll be hosting one of you during your interview here.

From the Admissions website:
When is it an appropriate time for me to follow-up with the UPSOM?
Our Admissions Committee welcomes letters of intent/interest and updates to your application. The most appropriate time to follow-up with us is following your interview or after the receipt of your official admissions decision. Communications can be sent via postal mail or to our admissions mailbox at [email protected]. Any communication received from the applicant will be included in their admissions file.

I would probably wait at least a couple more weeks before sending a pre-II letter, preferably until you had some updates you could include as well. I don't think it would hurt you to send one letter, but it probably also wouldn't do much good either. Where I think LOIs have a lot more weight at Pitt is in determining who to take off the waitlist.

+1 for good advice

I may be wrong but I think I remember reading on the admissions guidelines that everyone is ranked shortly after interviewing. In that case, I'd try to update Pitt with any significant updates prior to interviewing.

I saw some people in suits walking around today! Hope your interviews went well, and good luck to everyone with an interview coming up!

Just received an interview invite!! My first one!

I'm waiting for the 28X at the airport right now! Ahh so excited!

I'm pretty sure they talk about this in your pre-interview information, but a note to all the gals: either wear comfortable shoes or bring them along to change into for your tour, unless you are very very comfortable in heels. Pittsburgh is known for its hills, and there's a rather steep one that you will be walking on the tour. I just carried a pair of black flats in my purse.

Thanks for the info! I was thinking of bringing heels for the interview portion and then flats for the tour but I was afraid it'd look weird to change. Upon arriving for the day, do you think it'd be best to arrive in the heels or the comfortable shoes in terms of when the tour happens?

I arrived in heels and changed for the tour. Don't worry about looking weird to change, the girls that didn't bring comfy shoes will be jealous they didn't think of it! 😀

+1 I also had a bit of a walk to get to my interview location. I brought flats to most of my interviews and nobody seemed to care if I changed my shoes discreetly.

Thanks for the response! I'll do just that 🙂 Pitt is definitely a huge long shot for me...I'm stil trying to figure out why they even invited me lol so I'm trying to get this interview thing right and the less little things I have to worry about that day, the better I can perform during my interview

Don't think like that! You're invited for an interview, now prove you fit in and mesh well with your interviewers! I recall the admissions office telling us "you all are here cause you are academically qualified" the rest is fit.

Granted, this is funny advice coming from a 2011-2012 reject. But in hindsight I'm pretty sure I bombed at the interviews (my student interview was super awkward, I wish that 30 minutes on no-one).
