i could be wrong but I think it's probably mostly bc of how competitive it is for CA residents, there were a ton at my creighton interview as well and similarly, a large portion of their class is from ca

as much as we wisconsin-ites like to think wisco is da bomb I don't know if californians are flocking here just for the beer and cheese 😉

CA residents make up a big % of the OOS everywhere.

Yeah, i figured it was just overflow. It's funny because they almost always ask if they should get a winter coat and boots. Obviously you'll need a heavy coat... Haha

I was wondering if any WARM interviewees had heard anything yet?
I interviewed on 9/21 and haven't heard anything....

II today!!! So extremely excited 🙂 Complete 9/13 Interviewing November 20th

I love Madison! I was not expecting such a quirky and warm atmosphere. This place is hard to beat.

Congrats to both of you, glad someone made it.

I came back to the apartment, found a letter in the mail. I was rejected, interview date Sep. 28th (stats in MDapp). I'm shell-shocked right now, I pretty much had my heart set on Madison. Can't understand why rejection, either.

Sorry that you got bad news... I hope your other schools give you good news! How'd you feel your interview went?

I still can't get over how hospitable the midwest is. My student host asked me if I wanted a glass of milk before bed. No joke.

I love Madison! No complaints at all. The interview was very conversational and the students were great. 👍

I just looked at the MSAR again and I don't think I realized just how selective they are pre-interview for OOS folks. Only about 5-6% of us get an interview! And then it looks like 1/5 of the interviewees matriculate. So for acceptances, I am guessing the odds are pretty good at this stage.

Post-interview, oos has around 50-60% acceptance rate, iirc.

Yea, I think US News calculated the oos overall acceptance rate to be ~3% ... I was surprised too. Huge honor and nice to know that, if they accept you as an oos applicant, they:

A. Really like you.
B. Really think you will thrive at their school.
C. Really think you will be an alum that makes them proud.
D. Really think you will be an excellent physician.
E. All of the above 😉

Glad you had a good interview day!

Did anyone hear back about acceptance/rejection in less than 6 weeks? I've got some interviews scheduled for early December that I would love to cancel if UW gives me good news..

I heard back in a little under 5 weeks. I was an early interviewee...perhaps times might get longer though (as the pool increases in size).

Has everyone who interviewed received an email from the office of minority affairs the night before saying they want to meet you? I just got one and got really nervous for a second that I checked the wrong ethnicity box on amcas or the secondary so I went back and checked and I did get it right that I am indeed, white. Haha that was a scary moment.. and I am still a little confused about why I got this

I'm white and I didn't get this message. They may have accidentally sent this to you. If I were you, I would just call the admissions office and ask if you were supposed to get the message. I don't think there would be any harm in asking them. Good luck!

Everyone gets it. It happens at a lot of schools.

edit: or at least i thought everyone gets it. I received it before my interview.

First letters were sent out for WARM interviewees yesterday.

What do you mean exactly? People who have interviewed for the WARM program earlier in the cycle have been accepted. Do you mean interviewees from a specific date? Haha thanks!

I think he might mean the physical letters(?)...

I was accepted a couple weeks ago, but haven't received an official letter yet.

after sending the email to confirm the interview date they assigned, how long does it take them to get back? it's been a couple days, wondering if i should send the email again

I actually received my WARM acceptance letter in the mail today (granted I live in Madison).

How many weeks between your interview date and your acceptance?

Congrats! Did you get an acceptance call preceding the letter? When did you interview?

I interviewed on Sept 28th and I received an acceptance call on Oct 29th.

However, it should be noted that the committee had to wait for me to add additional letters of recommendation before reviewing my file.

Ohh ok gotcha. Congrats! I hope I hear something soon. I can't handle not knowing anymore... Haha

All WARM acceptances are suppose to get phone calls correct? There is no reason you would just get an acceptance letter?

Also any one know how it works if they dont pick you for WARM and you put that you would like to be considered for regular MD in that case?

I had the same question while I was filling out my AMCAS and I received an email from the admissions office that all applicants not accepted into the WARM program would be automatically considered for the regular MD program.

I'm not too sure about the necessity of receiving a phone call to be accepted though.

Rejected - interviewed early October.
Is this even common?

Waitlisted

Interviewed earlier oct. Snail mail.
Beyond disappointed

Would you mind sharing stats? (Im a Madison resident applying)

Sorry to hear the bad news, guys! Looks like a lot of different schools have made a lot of different SDN'ers unhappy today...

Rejected from WARM program 🙁
Application forwarded to Regular MD committee....anyone heard of someone getting into regular MD but not WARM program?

Sorry to everyone who got bad news today.. I didn't follow this thread very closely last year but I do know that about ~30-40 ppl who were initially waitlisted were rejected in march bc the waitlist was just way bigger than it could ever need to be. Maybe they're just trying to skip this step altogether this year

That being said I do not feel confident about my chances here after interviewing.. got a hostile feel from my faculty member and that student group... Ugh. Just such a weird situation.

My interviewer was very serious throughout the meeting (read: no joking, no smiles)... It was kind of a curveball coming out of my prior interview experiences...and it didn't help that all my fellow interviewees kept mentioning how laidback and jolly their interviewers were. In all honesty, I got the *impression* that perhaps this individual wasn't crazy about me [or my application].

That said, it all worked out!

Moral: Don't give up; keep the faith!

Sorry that you got bad news.. I hope you get off the waitlist and get accepted. Was your interview October 5th? I just want to know what group they're getting to now. I was around your interview date.

Also, from what I remember last year, they took about 20 off the instate waitlist. I have a friend who is 50/50 on going here, depending if she gets into a top school, so maybe that'll be one slot!

And bummer that you got a hostile feel 1289 🙁

20? That's it..*sigh*. I have totally given up hope on them already.

Kstate I did not interview the 5th. Good luck 🙂

my boyfriend got in in his class after he was initially the 33rd person on the wait list. he was the last person to get in, and got in 6 weeks before school started. wait list is better than rejected!

I was rejected from WARM/regular last year. My interview is Friday. I'm pretty nervous. Blais, you applied WARM right? Who interviewed you? I had Dr. Crouse last year and he seemed nice, but my friend interviewed with..Joel? i believe was his name, and said he was pretty straight laced in the interview.

ETA: that was meant for chronos

I'm OOS and have been complete since mid-July. I just received an email saying that my app is on hold until January, at which time it will be re-reviewed. I haven't seen anything like this on this thread? Anybody have any insights? Will an interview at that time just be for a wait-list spot?
