Ouch. Rejected pre-interview from my only IS public school.🙁 Second time being rejected from UW if you count UG. Can't help but be a little bummed.

hi guys,

I was accepted😀 on 1/14 and interviewed on 12/14. OOS, average stats.

Two things..

First, congratulations!

Secondly, I hate you 😡 .

🙂

I'm more confused than ever. I'm officially throwing my hands up in defeat.

Is UW a relatively difficult undergrad to get into?

My only experience with state schools is that my own seems to accept everyone. 😛

It's pretty competitive. I was accepted to U of Michigan for undergrad right off the bat (OOS) but initially wait listed here at uw. From what I remember it was only the top students at the high schools in my area who got in

It's a really tough undergrad to get into, even if you're in-state. However, it's fairly easy to transfer in later.

Congrats!
Although I can't help to be slightly annoyed... how did I interview 3 and a half weeks before you and STILL HAVE NOT HEARD.
Madison is my dream and its beginning to make me slightly more neurotic than normal.
Maybe it takes longer since I'm IS? I give up...

If I remember correctly IS and OOS are reviewed independently and by separate admissions committees. It's very likely that the review pace for IS applicants is different than that of OOS applicants. Can anyone confirm or refute this?

Well, instead of being frustrated, let's channel the neuroticism. Here's the evidence:

OOS
MCATagain interviewed on 11/9, heard back 12/10.
Stuthedew interviewed 12/7, heard back 12/21.
doctorwho101 interviewed 12/4, heard back 1/14.
potatochip interviewed 12/14, heard back 1/14.

IS
mnbmen and gaihoan interviewed 10/26, heard back 12/4.
1289 interviewed 11/2, heard back 12/18.
IRASNA interviewed 11/20, heard back 1/14.

The adcom is clearly on a different schedules for OOS and IS applicants. It looks like they're still reviewing December/late November in-state applicants. They may already be reviewing January out-of-state applicants. It's more likely that they're reviewing OOS applicants as a batch (like say, all January applicants at once), and reviewing IS applicants by specific date interviewed.

Good luck, everyone.

ACCEPTED!!!

got the call yesterday at 3:00 p.m. central time!

IS, interviewed 11/30, 3.9/3X

I was also a second time applicant who was waitlisted post interview and then rejected in march, so if you want it bad enough to wait a year good things can definitely happen!!!!

If you want more details PM me.

I went through the SAME thing last year! such a feeling of redemption eh? congrats!

At my interview and earlier on this thread there was discussion on UW changing from grades in M2 to all pass fail.

Does anyone know the status of this? The current students on interview day seemed to think it was for sure going to happen maybe even for next years M2's.

The impression I got was that there was adamant opposition from high-ranking faculty. My faculty interviewer was unconvinced that it was going to happen.

The last I heard was that it WAS likely to be happen; this was at a education committee meeting.

Decisions again. Monday's coming up! Never thought I would ever be excited for Monday.

Waitlist letter. Shocker. 12 weeks post interview... I wasn't exactly expecting an acceptance call.

12 Weeks? What!

Yeah, trust me I was getting a little annoyed. I called like five times and got the same response every time "Sorry, you will be notified shortly."

Sorry, MLeeBee. I guess I should be checking my mailbox now as well.

Does anyone know what the distribution of scholarships usually looks like? The financial aid brochure says that scholarships run anywhere from $5000/year to full tuition. Are these prioritized for Wisconsin residents? Any idea how many full rides get doled out to each class?

... REJECTED, 9 weeks post-interview. Honestly the interview didn't go well, it was my first and I was super nervous, and didn't feel like I got my personality across at all. I'm still waiting to hear back from a few other schools, I think I may have a good shot at going to med school somewhere next fall :xf:

Congrats everyone who's been accepted, and :luck: to all still waiting!

:zip: <- why have I never seen this monkey before

I love your attitude, cocoapelli! The first interview is always the worst. I was a nervous, jittery, incomprehensible ball of sweat at my first.

May I ask, when did you interview?

Mind telling us if you were IS or OOS too?

It's been very quiet IS lately... I'm IS, interviewed 12/14 and still haven't heard anything. Thought the interview went very well but starting to get nervous with how long this is taking to hear back. Going on 8 weeks...

Have any other ISers, who interviewed in December hear anything yet? Thinking I might call Friday if I don't hear anything.

I know one IS person who interviewed 12/4 got a rejection Monday. I interviewed that weekend (IS) and haven't heard. The admissions FB says the are still working on the first few weeks of Dec. now.

Scholarships are rare, and usually for recruitment purposes. Some are for minority students.

wow it's going to be a long wait before they get to my 1/11 interview huh?
:smack:

We'll wait together. I interviewed on the 11th as well. Hoping they notify December applicants by Monday and start reviewing us next week.

IS, interviewed 12/4.

Since that posting, I've been accepted at MCW and am beyond excited for next year. :zip:

Hope you all get the call you're waiting for!:luck:

I just got the call at 4PM today (ET). Had not expected it at all! Interviewed 1/11. Accepted.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!

Major congrats! I'm confused though. I thought they said snail mail either regardless of their decision....?

I'm OOS, but I have strong ties to the midwest. I don't think Stats are important for UWisconsin, so I won't state them. I thought I was really awkward and off-putting during the group interview. For those who had a bad interview, don't despair!

Congrats kenobi and thanks for sharing! I'm OOS and interviewed here on 1/18. I wonder when the committee will get to reviewing our files. Or did they do it already? 🙁

Congrats Kenobi! That's really weird though, because someone called and they said they were reviewing first week of December interviewees last week. They must be on totally different schedules for IS and OOS. Hopefully they get to us late Sconnies soon! :scared:

I have no doubt you guys will be getting good news soon! They're on different timelines for IS and OOS, but they're not far off from each other.

Directly from UW twitter feed: "still working on reviewing those instate applicants who interviewed in mid-December. We understand and doing the best we can."

Got the rejection today via snail mail. IS interviewed 12/7. Congrats to everyone accepted!

Woh there congrats!!!

I'm not sure how I should feel about this news though... Should I be waiting to receive my rejection letter soon or what?
(fellow 1/11er)

IS and interviewed 1/11 as well. Any idea if they are even working on us yet? How has it been only 5 weeks since the interview?!?!

Accepted.

Got the call at 1:40 pm (CST) today. Interviewed 1/18. OOS Applicant.

Super stoked since they called me at work (where I least expected to be called) and I didn't think they they reviewed my application yet. Looks like they're making more calls today.

@Kiliman, good luck on your app! I was told during the interview that they review applicants in order but a friend of mine (who interviewed in the previous cycle) mentioned that they threw applicants into a pile and reviewed them randomly.

Big ups to the acceptance! Hoping for some news this week! On another note, does anyone remember when second look day is? April something...?

Oh dang, that's getting close. Maybe I should think about booking a plane ticket.

Anyone else in the wait list boat? Anyone have any idea how big it is so far?

Congrats! I also interviewed on 1/18 and got the waitlist letter today...I'm OOS. Does anyone know how many of the waitlist have had success in previous years or the general reputation of waitlist to offer letter for UW?
