Probably cutting it close. I think they said they meet on Mondays, so your file wouldn't be reviewed until Monday. Based on last year's thread I think you'll probably head back on the December date
 
Someone told me that the November decision date was the 21st. Was I misinformed? Can anyone who has had an interview here confirm which date it is?

I did have an interview there, and I thought it was supposed to be the 21st too but the 28th was mentioned earlier in the thread. I can't seem to track down my sheet right now so that's what I went off of. I'll wait for someone who can find their sheet to confirm...

EDIT: Found my sheet and the November date is the 28th

I was interviewed at Wayne State a month ago and got wait listed. You will find out the answer on the exact date they tell you during the interview. I found out at 11AM. Some advice: Don't bring up politics. I had some political activities on my application for leadership and my interviewer definitely brought it up and hammered me hard on it. Bad situation to be in.
 
Nov 28th is the date I was told to expect an answer as well.
 
Another quick tip. I interviewed also and did get asked some ethical questions (what would u do type) and one about the the healthcare law. So don't rule those out!
 
Just turned in my secondary...how late is it?

It was within the four weeks prescribed
 
Wayne is one place where you don't really have to worry about being late in the cycle. They accept the class in 1/7 pieces, so it's not exactly like you're competing for fewer spots as they always reserve some (of course, the later you are the fewer 1/7 slices you have to be considered for, if that makes any sense). Plenty of my classmates interviewed late in the cycle (March-time or so). Basically if they like you they will interview you.

Just as a p.s., I would say that I know a significant amount of people here at Wayne (myself included), who waited out at least one acceptance release cycle to finally get admitted. The thing that really bothers me is that you never really know where you are (900th on the list or what), but being waitlisted isn't a death sentence. I just wish they would outright reject people who are way down on the list to give people some closure. That's just me though, I found rejections strangely refreshing.
 
I sent in my essays in .doc format. Is this a problem? Should i have sent pdfs. I wasn't even thinking.

Thanks for the reassurance, but I'm a little confused about the bolded part. So are you saying that Wayne waitlists a lot of people? Or is it because many applicants interviewed late?
 
I could be totally wrong on this but I am of the understanding that Wayne doesn't care when you interview. It seems like a way bigger deal at other schools cus there is the push to fill the class as quickly as possible. But I think Wayne reserves those 1/7 chunks of acceptances expressly for the purpose of giving as much weight to a March interview as an October one (as in, not just interviewing for a spot on the waitlist).

What I mean by the bolded part -- a lot of my classmates were sitting on the waitlist for at least a few release date cycles before they got in. These of course are the people who interviewed early-ish (at least before the 5th or 6th release date). For the people who interviewed later (March, April) they didn't have many cycles to go through of course, but even some of them (in my unscientific sampling) were on the waitlist before finally being admitted (If i remember the release dates correctly). And then of course in May there's a really good amount of waitlist movement and there were even people getting into Wayne during orientation week in July.

Is any of that clearer at all? I tend to ramble.

The problem with the waitlist is that you never know if you are a borderline applicant who they are likely to extend an acceptance to (first in line for an acceptance if someone ahead of you withdraws their acceptance) or if you are at the bottom of the list (therefore unlikely to get off).
 
Canadian, 3.52/30R (11/10/10). Just got a snail mail rejection letter that said my app wasn't competitive. Weird, because I got an interview at VCU that has the same percentage of IS students attending (not complain, I'd rather go to VCU anyway - I'm just curious)...

Do they have any screening cutoffs for OOS that I potentially didn't meet? I'm kind of confused....

Sorry to hear that. When were you complete?

From what I know, they screen pre-secondary. After your secondary, I don't know how they do it.

I was complete 10/10 (due to having taken the Sept. MCAT). I got rejected pre-secondary, which is unusual for someone with my stats. (I got secondaries at every other school that pre-screens that I applied to)

For OOS applicants, they are a bit more choosy. Your stats would've been OK as an in-state applicant. Keep in mind, they get lots of applications from Canadians who (generally) have very good stats so you're up against a very competitive bunch.

Honestly, getting rejected pre-secondary isn't uncommon at some schools, while others blindly send secondaries to everyone who lists them on their AMCAS. Sorry to be blunt about it, but "someone with your stats" would be below average at Wayne State. Also, international students (I'm assuming Wayne counts Canadians as internationals) often have a MUCH harder time at American schools so are likely held to higher standards. Check out MSAR or UW News for statistics on international applicants.

I heard on premed101 that Wayne treats Canadians as OOS. Not sure if this is still true this year, but I just want to let other Canadians know ...

Yeah, Canadians are treated the same as OOS students

You can email everything (including photo) but u just have to mail in the fee. There's no way to pay it online with a credit card or anything...but if your near by just drop it off, cuts some lag time between them receiving it and marking u complete

Darn it! You just missed them. They stopped offering interviews 12 minutes ago. Sorry 🙁



... But actually, they'll be offering interviews all the way though March like every other school. Apparently they also do a kind of "pseudo" rolling admissions, so interviewing later isn't a disadvantage.

Ha, with my luck that would be true. 😳 It just seems like a lot of schools theoretically interview into spring but have given away 80%+ of their interview spots already. It's a little frustrating because of Wayne's data from last year. If they made offers to 25% of in state applicants and have a strict screening process for secondaries, it seems like it could almost be more likely than not that an IS applicant who got a secondary application would also get an interview. Or am I being overly optimistic?

Well let me be the shinning contradiction. I'm an IS applicant who has been complete for over 3 months with stats above Wayne average. They have very specific criteria for selecting their interview invites, as does every school, and it's all about how well the person matches up with what they're looking for. Apparently I have yet to be considered good enough for an II based on that criteria. For all we know, you could have everything they're looking for in an applicant and have an II right around the corner. Also, as I mentioned before, they seem to try very hard to evenly disperse their acceptances over the entire application cycle. They likely have many more IIs to give out, so don't throw in the towel yet. I sure haven't.

For the two posts above me: complete beginning of August. Haven't heard a peep... Get at my level!
 
Yeah Wayne State can be pretty unusual in terms of its admission because it's non-rolling. Because they accept only ~40 students each round they must set up interviews with applicants in 3 categories: likely to be accepted, unsure, likely to be rejected/waitlisted. If they only interview their desired applicants in September and October, then they will have to waitlist some of them. This would deter them from accepting Wayne State's offer later when they get off the wailist and go somewhere else. They like to spread their desired applicants throughout the year. This is my two cents anyhow. I was complete early September, got my invite one and half weeks later for early October. I have great stats, but was waitlisted. An early invite doesn't mean anything, like people have been saying. It could just mean they are inviting you early to the waitlist party. Trust me it's definitely not a party by any means...

There is a good chance that this is what Wayne does. I had my interview just a bit ago and when I sat down, the interviewer had a sheet of paper with what looked to be an applicant score. There were about 10 categories with a grade which include volunteering, grades, etc and at the end there was a total.
 
I just noticed that Wayne's last offer date for this year is March 27, 2013.

That makes it only 6 rounds of admission this year. Which is pretty different than last year, where they were interviewing and had an round of offers in May! Does this mean that more than 40 (which is 1/7th of their class size) will be offered each round this year? And what about April-May? Is that just going to be waitlist movement. That might be a plus for all the people they place on a waitlist.

:scared:Could be a conspiracy?! They accepted 45 students this first round which I found unusual. It's interesting that there are only 6 rounds. It is usually 7 rounds until April/May. I did not even notice. Good find! I would love to rationalize that it puts the odds in favor for us waitlisters. They may try to interview more between September and March and accept more each decision date. The bulk of the waitlist movement still won't happen until mid-May, however, because that's when people who hold multiple acceptances must withdrawal acceptances. At least we won't have to wait too long to see a trickle of waitlist movement starting January. Hopefully I will be one of those.😉

I was complete some time at the end of September and just got an interview for December 10th because a spot opened up. However, earlier today I was told I would be given an interview in January, but would only know exactly when next week because they haven't finalized the interviewer schedules yet. I only know this because I've been actively emailing one of the admissions counselors, so maybe you'll get lucky next week when they're ready to go.

Ah ... I see. Thank you for sharing this information. I feel a little better after knowing that interviewing late at Wayne doesn't hurt that much. But still, the waiting is killing me lol

This was hard for me since I was interviewed on the 5th, the day before elections... didn't get hammered for it though, my interviewer was pretty nice about everything and we seemed to agree on most points... I tried to stay away from the really controversial and annoying politicky stuff though. Didn't actually tell him who I was voting for either lol, I presented the negatives of both sides as it stood with healthcare and foreign policy. His satisfied head nod on my explanation of Obamacare negatives was kind of reassuring too... still feel like I'm gonna get waitlisted, as long as not rejected I'll survive! 5 days left...

Got an obamacare question too! I tried not to pick sides either and just present the information I knew well enough. My interviewer actually said 'I agree' a couple of times but I didn't feel all that satisfied with it. I guess they can't really give too much away with their reactions either. Lol feeling a waitlist coming on too..easier to hope for the best and expect the worst so disappointment doesn't sink in. Goodluck to everyone hearing some news next week!

Haha no. I meant after being pre-med for 8 years where I had to go back to school to do postbaccs, get a job in healthcare for exp etc.

Seriously felt as though I knocked this interview out of the park. Not the way I wanted to start this second application cycle.

Congratulations none the less. I'm actually in the same situation as you.

On a side note, looks like there were interview invites given out immediately after the last decision date (October 24th). I'm going to hope they are sending out new interview invites within the next few days.
