Thanks. They scheduled mine for March 18, but I don't know anything about how many days are left for interviews. March 18 sounds pretty close to the end.

I got mine the same day and received the letter last week (I live nearby). You might want to call and let them know that you haven't received it because they ask for a response within three weeks from the date of the letter. They've been really helpful by phone and email.

I interviewed at MSU and loved it! I keep postponing my Wayne State interview because I'm not sure if I want to buy another plane ticket, and I'm kind of sick of interviews. Did anyone else interview at both MSU and Wayne State? Other than the fact there are more hospitals around Detroit, how is Wayne State a better option?

thanks for the reply. u're right. i talked to admissions office and they sent me a document by email. is it possible to pay the deposit to more than one school? or will I automatically be withdrawn?

You can hold multiple acceptances to med schools until May 15th (the date by which you must relinquish all but one). It's good manners to withdraw offers to schools you definitely aren't interested in so that other applicants get their potential offers at an earlier date.

MSU is really into primary care. Of course you can go into whatever specialty you desire at any medical school but that is more where they shine. Wayne on the other hand exposes you to a diverse population and is noted for early clinical exposure and excellent clinical training. I feel that Wayne is a better option if you do not see yourself wanting to go into primary care. Both are good schools.

are there structured research opportunities during school year or in summer at Wayne?

i had an interview invite as well! 🙂

Yes. There is a bunch of faculty looking for research assistants with projects. At the end of January we had our externship fair also that highlighted the opportunities (typically 6-8 weeks in duration with pay of about 2,000-3,000 for that time) at DMC, Henry Ford, and other metro area hospitals. These are fairly competitive (not everyone who applies for one gets it, as far as I know), but I think most people do something like this with their summer.

Accepted on Jan. 30th. Complete early December. Took a little over 2 weeks to recieve acceptance packet by mail, but I called after 1 week and they emailed everything to me.

I'm in the same boat, interviewed in October, waitlisten in November, been there since. I believe there is some hope in the next two release dates. There is also a decent amount of wait list movement from april and from what I have heard, up till orientation. I have thankfully been accepted to another school, but being a Wayne undergrad, it is my top choice.

Last year they sent out 365 in-state acceptances to fill 226 seats. If you are also in-state, this is good news since they will obviously need to take a decent amount of students off of the wait list to fill these slots. With two more release dates, that makes roughly 80-90 more acceptance, plus wait list movement after that.

There is definitely still hope.
Can I ask what your stats are?

Interview invite today for March 20th! Extremely excited!

I'm wondering if any current students could talk about how financial aid works at WSU. I saw on their website they have a ton of scholarships that they offer. Given their large student body I am sure these are competitive. It says most of these are offered in the summer/fall. Does Wayne offer any scholarships prior to the May deadline where you can only have 1 acceptance?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, they do. I have a friend who is an M1 there now who said the second look day is what swayed him to go to Wayne over MSU.

roughly 3 more days till the next batch goes out!....looking at some old threads it seems as if there was quite a bit of in-state alternative list love during the feb release date,
fingers crossed this year it will be the same!

also, just a quick comment about Wayne... a lot of people claim that there is a clear bias Wayne carries towards their own undergraduate students, aka if you went to Wayne you have a high chance of getting in even with mediocre stats. Has anyone else heard of this? Looking at this year's thread I feel as if that is definitely not the case. As a Wayne undergrad myself, I can't help but get a little irritated at all of those comments...with a 31O and a 3.7 I am still waiting.

I know I may sound a little bitter but its true! With 4 waitlists and 0 acceptances this point in the cycle, I am definitely getting anxious and am already starting to figure out plans for a possible gap year.

+1. I am a wsu undergrad and I am not seeing that bias at all. Looking at pervious years the majority of their class was UofM students. Wish they'd show they're own university students some love. I mean if we've gone to Detroit for undergrad and are looking to stay in Detroit for grad, doesn't it seem obvious we'd be working there as well. Which is what I thought they were looking for. Best of luck on this upcoming decision!

yes I definitely agree! Detroit is my home and definitely expressed interest in staying here during my interview as well! even so, there is still hope! Good luck to you as well!

I have heard of letters of intent, is Wayne receptive to these? I am currently on the waitlist. Is it worthwhile to send one to admissions?
Thanks

According to our class statistics located here: http://admissions.med.wayne.edu/class-profiles.php the story appears to be this --> while the majority of the class (roughly 29 percent) comes from University of Michigan, so many people apply from Michigan that their acceptance rate is relatively low compared to Wayne State. Acceptance rate from Wayne State undergrad students is around 26%, at least in our class. Although I don't know a lot of the details, I know that some of the class comes from the Wayne State MedStart program that guarantees admission to the med school straight from undergrad provided they fulfill certain standards (explained here: http://honors.wayne.edu/medstart.php). This can be as many as 15 students per class which kind of skews the stats. I'm not actually entirely positive that these students factor in to the admissions stats (not sure why they wouldn't but I'm not the best numbers person in the whole world), but I figured these students were worth a mention. A current Wayne State undergrad might be able to expound further as I'm not clear on the details.

So, slight bias, but definitely still competitive to get into the med school as a Wayne State undergrad. Good luck to anyone still waiting to hear. I'm going to sound like a broken record but keep hope alive until the very end!!

Do you guys think if there is still a chance to get an interview?

I didn't have any information about it in my acceptance packet and can't find any info online.

Also wondering when it will be - maybe there will be some info in the student # packets that went out last week?

Technically, you are citing matriculation statistics, which are very different than acceptance statistics. If I had to guess, I would say that U of M undergrads have a higher acceptance rate than Wayne undergrads, but also decline acceptance at a higher rate.

I received a mailing from Wayne but it only contained login info for pipeline (banner id, etc). Did something else go out last week as well?

No that's the one I meant - the banner ID and login info.

Last year it was Friday, April 13th weekend so if its around the same one this year that's make it the weekend of the 12-14th. Hopefully there'll be an email soon with details so we can make travel plans etc.

really hoping that a possible snow day tomorrow doesnt throw off the release date! I could not wait another month that's for sure.

I doubt they'd delay it a whole month - probably just a day or a week or something. I think last year they changed a date by a week to give the committee some more time, so I doubt it would happen that they keep you hanging until March

I know! This wait is killing me. 3 hrs and 43 min!

Alternate List
Canadian, 3.93 sGPA, 3.93 cGPA, 3.9 graduate GPA 32M
International volunteering, local volunteering (medical and non medical), bunch of scholarships (NSERC, OGS, etc..), 3 abstracts, 2 poster presentations at international conferences.

This is kind of disappointing, but I'm keeping my hopes up. Congrats in advance to everyone who got the good news today!

still on alternative list :/
anyone hear any good news today?

Yeah, you're totally right obviously (I guess I was thinking that everyone who got into Wayne was definitely going there, CLEARLY not the case though!! haha). There's no actual way to know the acceptance statistics by school as far as I know. It's speculation either way (I'm inclined to believe that the acceptance statistics are comparable between the two schools, for different reasons). I know quite a few Michigan undergrads who are frustrated with this year's cycle (friends of classmates), not that that means anything.

Just asked the school and they said this year it would be Thursday, May 2nd from noon to 7pm.

Looks like I won't be able to make it but hopefully I can set something else up to go get another look at the school!

Great, that's finals week at MSU. Not that I'll have any studying to do but I wish it was a week earlier/later.

i can definitely sympathize.. im a UMich undergrad but Wayne is definitely where I want to be next year too.

Fortunately, I got into MSUCHM which is awesome, and the more I look into the school the better it seems, but a large part of me wants to get off that alternate list too..

mediocre stats, 28Q and a 3.7, but you gotta keep that hope alive 👍

good luck this wednesday hope we all hear the news we want!
