2013-2014 George Washington University Application Thread

I was wondering if anyone had any insight to this...

I interviewed early october and they said decisions would be made in 8-10 weeks. Do you think decisions would come in earlier than that...considering those that interviewed in September hear in about a month? The waiting is killing me!

CONGRATS to those with acceptances!!!!

I interviewed early Oct and got the email in the morning that I'm on the waitlist. I think you should hear soon too!

FYI: My status page showed my waitlist at least 30 minutes before I got the email. Commence obsessively refreshing!

Alternate list.
Also interviewed 9/5.

I've been accepted to another school I would much rather go to so I'm not too bummed about this one. Even if I get pulled off the wait list I highly doubt I will matriculate here. Best of luck fam!

@Skab,
That darn faculty interviewer :beat:

For those who ended up on the waitlist.. Can you speculate why? Did it have much to do, in your opinion, with your interview?

I didn't have that great of an interview with my person; I said some stuff that I probably shouldn't have said. I also think that GW interviews 1000+ applicants and can only accept so many..especially this early in the game.

Seriously, the worst. Also, wow I never knew about the emoticon variety here, so thanks! 🤣

No idea. Cor and I did have a rough faculty interviewer, but the students were fine. I feel like since we were in the first group to interview, we must have been at least semi-competitive to be invited early. Arguably my worst interview so far, so I'm not surprised about the WL, but I was WL at schools where I felt I interviewed strongly too. Who knows?! I've stopped trying to figure out the adcom process a long time ago.

All you need is faith and trust, and a little bit of pixie dust! 😕

Are there different waitlists or just a single waitlist for everyone?

nevermind just found it on the website! There is just one waitlist

Just got another email reiterating the same thing... weird.
Anyway im really surprised I got waitlisted, my faculty interviewer interrupted me at one point and told me how perfect a candidate I was for GW... so very strange. My student interview was kind of awkward... because it was his first time. so im not sure, but Ive been accepted to a better school so I'm not worried. I wish the best of luck to all!!!! GW is an amazing school!

So I got another email saying essentially the same thing about the waitlist however it appears that we no longer have to register on the waitlist link. Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

I had a great interview with the faculty who essentially seemed to have wanted to accept me (if it were entirely up to him). Not a very good interview with the student. He seemed very bored with all my responses and challenged my desire to be in DC and why I would choose GW over Georgetown. He also asked why I wouldn't apply to Howard if I wanted to be in DC and I said it was cause it was a HBS. I noticed that he didn't like that answer at all. From his expression, I felt like he thought I was being racist?? 😕 Totally not what I was getting at...should have followed up by saying that the mission didn't fit my goals.

All in all, I think my student interviewer probably didn't give me the best review :/ Oh well!

Haha yup got this too.

waitlisted today. I'll send a letter of intent in March if I decide this is my #1 choice!

waitlisted today. interviewed late September. felt both the interviews could not have gone better, but who knows.. Still have a few more interviews to come, but loved GW so will probably send a love letter in a month or so..

Does anyone know if the waitlist is ranked on a rolling basis ( i.e. is there a trend for those that are waitlisted first to be more likey to receive an acceptance) ?

congrats to all those accepted!!

I'm not applying this cycle but next cycle. I graduated from GW in May. Does anyone know if they give any preference to alumni? My stats are 3.65 cGPA / 3.55 sGPA / 13/10/10=35 MCAT. If so, is it about the same amount of preference you get when applying to your in-state schools?

Good luck to all applying now.

Alternate list! Was expected. Congrats to all who got accepted and good luck to those still waiting to hear back! :luck:

Maybe GW does there admissions process a little like georgetown. I know at Gtown they told us they tend to mostly wait list early applicants so as to not fill up the acceptance slots before interviewing season is finished. Seems smart on their end when they receive 10000 plus apps. I might withdraw, but there seriously is a lot of hope for those waitlisted that want to go here.

Faculty (not-MD) interviewer was seriously pretty bad haha. He said some incorrect stuff about healthcare and was explicit by saying my answers were not what he was looking for lol. It was a hot mess haha.

this is exactly how my interview at Drexel went! I tried my best to stay neutral but it was a disaster.

do we think no news is bad news today for those of us with mid-sept. interviews?

I applied a bit late in the game, so my first decision letter was from GWU, and it was an II! I nearly fell out of my chair seeing the news. Complete 9/4, 3.7 GPA, 30 MCAT.

Good luck to everyone who's about to interview 🙂

accepted today but withdrew my application literally 10 min ago. good luck, everyone!

any other II's lately? Been complete since 9/24 ... should I be nervous?

I don't think you should. I was put on hold a couple of days ago after being complete at the end of August. They probably didn't get to your app yet.

just got II !
secondary complete 7/26 and was on hold since 8/9.

status online hasn't updated since email ~40 min ago

For people that were put on hold. I never recieved an email telling me I was on hold but logged back in and noticed a hold. Did everyone else get an email for it?

No, I didn't receive an email. I just logged in to check my status and noticed I was on hold a few days ago.

Just applied today LOL. Prob a waste of time but I figured I'd give it a shot just in case.

OOS, filled out my secondary before my app got verified (oct 1, verified oct 10). sGPA 3.65, cGPA 3.76, AO GPA 3.95. My MCAT is crap at 26 (9 phys, 9 verbal, 8 bio) and i havent heard back from them since...should i be worried? then again it has only been ten days...kinda bummed it took AMCAS literally 2 months to process my app 😛

I too was placed on the alternate list, and had a rough faculty interview. To date, this has been the only interview I've had that didn't go well, and I've had between 8 and 10 (some schools had multiple interviews) so far. Honestly, he turned me off to the school so much I don't think I'd matriculate even if I got in. Not too upset about this one.

I have been complete since the middle of August and it still says that my application is under review. No hold, no rejection, no II. Is anyone else in a similar situation? :eyebrow:

I've been on hold for well over a month now. I'm really hoping for good news!

Congrats on the II!

Did you send a letter of interest or any updates after being put on hold? I'm wondering if I should do that.

GW receives ~10,000 applications, so it takes a while to review applications. It took ~6 weeks for me to have a status change, and from the looks of it it is the same for many other people. You submitted late, so you more than likely won't hear anything until December.

With that said, you are at a fairly large disadvantage going into this cycle from submitting late and a low MCAT. You can of course still get in if you have great EC's and a good interview, but you're going to have to be patient. It's a long process, and don't be surprised if you don't have any interviews or hear back until the spring.

Of those of you accepted, has anyone received their acceptance package yet?

No others do. Some take holistic view of multiple scores, but only GW superscores (or at least claims to).

I actually know that Medical College of Wisconsin superscores as well.
