Hey, everyone, pre-interview hold here, for a while now...complete since October…does anyone ever actually get an II after this?
My friend did this week after being on hold since October as well. Good luck :-(

Is there anyone out there who was put on pre-interview hold and eventually interviewed here?? Please some hope..

normally don't post, but I had an interview here in december and the guy was actually mean to me through the entire interview. gw is my top choice, I did a ton of prep work for the interview and felt confident going in. the intro and q&a with the students stressed that gw is not cut-throat and the interview day would not be stressful. my student interview was very pleasant and straight-forward. but in the faculty interview my interviewer didn't look me in the eye and made faces while I was mid-sentence as if I was talking non-sense. He made several strange out of place rude comments (i.e. when I mentioned GW was my top choice and I see myself fitting in he said that he didn't care because he wasn't on the admissions). Everything about the interview was extremely bizarre and he mocked literally every response I had. I'm so bummed out because I was extremely prepared and wanted to rock this interview.

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure you can complain to admission if he was excessively rude? At another school, they allowed us to do so.

I'm sorry to hear your interviewer at GW was rude. The selection process of who interviews who can make or break an application IMO. The process isn't very fair. My interviewer was quite nice and made me feel really comfortable. Have you received decision yet?

Same boat and wondering the same thing.

A previous poster mentioned how her friend got off the pre-interview hold to interview. IIRC, a couple of other ppl have also mentioned getting off the pre-interview hold, too.

I would not overly worry about that. My worse interview was the one I got accepted first. I also have many friends that literally cried after their interviews and they got accepted anyhow. Just a little tip tho... not trying to sound like a complete ass what so ever (its just that I am a bit older and had lots of not so nice tips along the way)🙁.... If you thinking about complaining to the school, or to anyone for that matter, I would encourage you not to use the word "mean". It makes you sound like a defenseless child hehe.
Best of luck!!! Let us know the outcome. I am sure you nailed it, since you prepared for it so much. 😉 And if not... their loss, you will end up where you meant to be! :zip:

Did you guys feel there were anything special about the GWU application or if it was pretty straightforward in requirements (GPA,MCAT,EC)

What did you guys do with your coats during interview day? My interview is really soon, and I wasn't sure if people hung onto their coats during the tour/interview or left them in the admissions office the whole day?

There's a room in which you can leave your coats and luggage. They lock it while you're on your tour.

I think it was 10 degrees outside the day I interviewed. All of us wore our coats to the main conference room and simply left them on our chairs there when we went to our individual interviews. It was fine and safe, nobody touched anybody else's stuff.

I didn't receive a decision yet. Thanks I appreciated the positive words and advice. I have no intention to complain formally, I don't want to cause problems. I agree I sounded infantile... I used that phrasing because I kinda felt like a defenseless child sitting in a chair getting scolded by an old man I was failing to impress haha.

We definitely had the same interviewer... every time I gave an answer he didn't like it and would tell me to answer it again. He also often interrupted me mid answer to go back to something I said, completely tripping me up. My student interviewer was such a sweetheart though! He came off really bitter and really turned me off from the school, he was the total opposite of the image they tried to portray.

I had a similar experience and recently withdrew from the wait-list. I didn't want to sound petty and complain about my experience pre-decision, but I did mention it when I withdrew my application. GW was my first interview so it took me a while before I realized how ridiculously I had been treated. I think I've read on SDN that even when admissions committees suspect they have a problematic interviewer, they can't take any formal action without complaints from interviewees. The school spent all day harping on about fostering a collaborative, supportive environment, but my interview directly contradicted this objective--unnecessarily confrontational and condescending. GW was honestly one of my top choices pre-interview (parents attended, sister applying to undergrad, SO in DC area) but I couldn't get over the negative experience. Their office should know if applicants are coming away with this much distaste for their interview process/medical school.

I had not checked my status in a while but it seems I have been placed on a pre interview hold dunno if this is good or bad but I already have 1 acceptance

my application has been placed under "re review" since october and this school is a top choice of mine...should i be worried? i literally haven't heard anything from them since i submitted my secondary...

Thousands of people are placed on this pre-interview hold. So, honestly, the chances of an II are definitely possible, but kind of slim given the sheer number of applicants. Good luck to you!

considering rolling admissions, do later applicants get feedback along with everyone else or considerably later?
Complete mid-December (I know, shame on me)

Does anyone have any insight into how the Admissions Committee interprets the interviews?

I think I had a good faculty interview, but my student interview was a little awkward- nothing bad happened, just a few awkward moments as my interviewer didn't really seem to like me and kept badgering with these "intense" questions one after the other.... I have written a nice thank you letter to my interviewer so hopefully that will help?

Also,my faculty interview was very conversational to the point that I'm worried now that I didn't get a chance to really "sell" myself. He asked me a few questions, but he would interrupt me and talk about his own thoughts and his life and a lot about his son. He was really sweet, but I'm worried I couldn't get out everything that I wanted to say...

My impression is that as long as the interview wasn't terrible, it won't help or hurt you. It would be nice if a current student could shed some light on this. I have noted previously that both of my interviews went very well-- and I have heard indirectly (though another faculty member) that the faculty interviewer who interviewed me thought very highly of me. Yet, I was placed on the alternate list. Good luck to those of you who interviewed recently! Relax-- you did the best you could! 🙂

i was complete in september and put on hold in late november. I checked the portal this morning and my app is "complete" again. Anybody know if this is a good sign? does it just eman that they are re-checking my app? any ideas of time frame to hear back after it goes back to being under review? ughhhh... I know an II at this point is not likely but I'm trying to keep my hopes up! 🙂

Got an II email a few minutes after I posted this! SO exciteddddddddddddddddd!

I was complete very early, maybe late July. Put on hold. Sent an update around the end of November and just received an interview invite! I aint dead yet, and if you're still waiting on an II, send an update or something!

I think we are having very similar cycles. I've seen you on a lot of the same threads and I also JUST received an invite at GW after hearing nothing for months. Good luck!

Congrats to you both!! I was also complete here in July and am still on hold. I've sent an update but now I'm thinking it's time for another 🙂. Good luck at your interviews!

Hmm, I hope this hold--> update--> interview invite trend keeps up, would love to interview at GWU.

Interviewed on 1/7 and today I found out that I've been placed in the "alternate pool." :/ I'm going to try to stay positive and keep the hope alive!!

I was completed early July, placed on hold, and received II this morning, too! I sent a couple updates, one back in August and one in early December to show my continued interest. I wonder how many spots they have left to fill.

aww man. I didn't get an II. was complete in July and have been placed on hold since. Sent in two update letters (one in oct, one recently), but no II yesterday 🙁

Same here. Complete October, but apart from acknowledgements of my updates, nothing.

We may have had the same interviewer - lots about his son (who is a first year at GW)?

Accepted!
Interviewed December 5th, 30-32 MCAT, 3.7 GPA, strong interest in public health
This is my third application cycle, so keep the faith!
Awesome. Congrats! I'm in my second cycle, so I'm paying attention!

To those who interviewed, about how many people interview in one day?

Accepted! Interviewed on 12/3, 3.55/3.6 GPA, 28 MCAT, non-science major. Very excited, although I was accepted to my in-state school and may go there for financial reasons. Not sure yet.

Rejected pre-interview hold as well. Would have withdraw invite anyhow. GL everyone!
