2013-2014 Georgetown University Application Thread

I hope I don't wait 9+ weeks for a rejection. : / And if it's a wait list, I wish I would have known sooner so I could send a LOI.

Does anybody remember being told at the interview approximately how many they historically take out of the CAP? I remember Ms. Sullivan saying that it has been less in recent years, but I don't remember her saying actual numbers.

I thought someone said 100 were offered a spot from CAP last year but don't quote me on it.

I haven't heard anything... I interviewed 8 weeks ago, but it's been quiet in their end. I'm thinking of calling soon?

I called today and was told that I'm "still under review" and would hear in "the next few weeks." I have no idea what that means. Haha.

Rejected, pre-interview. 4.0 GPA / 36 MCAT and complete early September. I was really interested in their Jesuit philosophies toward medicine too; oh well 🙁

No news since my August interview. Anyone else on the same boat?

Yep, same for me! Interviewed sept 5.... I called last week and they said we'd probably hear by the end of this week. The wait continues...

Sorry 🙁
Waiting on mine to come through. I don't think Gtown even has that many interviews left to give- they went pretty invite happy early on

Interviewed end of September and I remember Mrs. Sullivan saying to call the office if we didn't hear anything in 6 weeks. It has been over six weeks now, but i'm not expecting anything soon since people at the beginning of september still didn't hear anything. Anybody else remember her saying this?

so My stat on the page says incomplete but i called adms office and they said im complete (received email and all)

should i be worried? should i call again?

So im approaching the 10th week mark since i was complete and i still have not heard anything from them. When do i start freaking out? should i call them? In the completion email it says that the review should take "up to 10 weeks". This sucks!

I had a very disappointing interview here last week : ( I was very impressed with the school and I really like the program (definitely my #1 choice so far), but, unfortunately, I was not adequately prepared for the actual interview.

As a suggestion for others, be prepared to represent yourself as if the interviewer literally knows nothing about you! Most of my preparation (this whole cycle) was geared toward expanding on the information I provided in my primary/secondary applications. At Georgetown, your interviewer has no idea who they are interviewing until the Ad. office hands them an envelope with your name on it and they walk over, call your name, and walk you to their office. We are told that they may or may not read your application materials (minus grades/MCAT), but it's up to the interviewer. My interviewer opened my envelope and very briefly skimmed my info then began asking the basic questions. Unfortunately, I immediately stressed myself out and scrambled to try to convey my preparations for medical school, how I got there, etc. Needless to say, I did a very poor job. At the end, my interviewer removed a survey-like sheet (assuming this is the "Impression of the Applicant" sheet, it had scales of 1-10, etc) from the envelope, put my information back in, and handed me the envelope to return to the admissions office. So, it seems unlikely that my interviewer would have a chance to read my information in its entirety after that. Consequently, he probably knows very little about me as a person because I freaked out and sucked at talking. *derp*

TL;DR: Your interviewer may or may not know anything about you, be prepared to hit on the "important stuff" as if your primary/secondary applications didn't exist.

Besides my poor reaction to the interview style, I loved this school and interview day. The interview was relaxed and conversational (other than myself), Donna Sullivan's presentation was extremely motivating, the students seemed very diverse and happy, and overall it was pretty awesome.

Hope this can help some of you interviewing in the future! Good luck!

I interviewed mid September and she said we should hear back by Oct. 30 and if we didn't we should call. It is 3 weeks past that but I haven't heard anything. And I haven't called either. If you call let us know what information you get

Sorry your interview didn't go well, don't kill yourself over it. They still consider your whole application and the interview is just one more data point. For what it's worth, I had a sort of inverse experience. I was caught off guard by how much the interviewer had read into my file, taken notes in the margin of all of materials, and had very specific questions. I wasn't that well prepared for the in-depth follow-up on my activities since I was expecting to explain from scratch. So the take home point for everyone is that your interviewer might have read all or none of your application and you should be prepared to talk about it in either way.

This wait seems to be getting ridiculous... 12 weeks and counting since my interview. Has anyone called lately? I was told two weeks ago that I should have heard by last week...

Plus it seems like no one has heard back at all post interview in like 3 weeks...

Anyonegotten lucky with LOI/updates preinterview?

Has anyone complete on or after 10/8 been rejected and/or received an II? Super excited about GTown so trying to gauge where I might be in the "line"

It was one of the first interview dates. They said they try to call before sending out letters (which should be sent tomorrow). Not specified if it meant email or actual letter and I was to happy to push it 🙂

Rejection today. Interviewed 9/25. I can't say Georgetown was my top choice but it still stings to be rejected outright when they put so many on the waitlist... ouch.

Waitlisted. Interviewed 9/30. Dammit. Georgetown was my top choice. I have a great backup, but it looks like i'll be waiting till May in case I get lucky.

Also rejected today after interviewing end of september and feel like I showed a lot of interest too. time to move on though I'm happy with my other acceptances

I did the SMP (Special Master's Program) at Georgetown School of Med last year. If anyone has questions or is curious about what I thought of the school/curriculum feel free to get in touch for details, may be helpful in making a final school decision. I was not accepted last cycle, but did reapply this year.

Rejected, pre-interview. 4.0 GPA / 36+ MCAT and complete early September. I was really interested in their Jesuit philosophies toward medicine too; oh well 🙁

Pre-interview rejection. MCAT is 29 but gpa > 3.6. The fact that they rejected a person with perfect gpa and super MCAT means that they are looking for a certain applicant. We will get in somewhere! Good luck to all!!!

wow after two and a half months I just got the complete email...

CAP'd yesterday. Interviewed first week of October. Guess I'll be writing a letter soon!

Any other MD/PhD applicants in here? I've been complete since 11/5 and am so so eager to hear something. For any other MD/PhD applicants, how fast did you hear something?

Rejected on Friday. Interviewed on Sept. 5th. Pretty bummed but glad to know I have other options. Congrats to those accepted and good luck to others still waiting to hear.

I was complete 9/20 and nothing at all from GT.

Waitlisted on Friday, interviewed mid-September.

First rejection, just got the email yesterday. 3.5c gpa, 32MCAT, was a bit late in getting my secondary in, complete mid oct ish. Good luck to everyone else!

Did not get an email (yet) but checked my status page and saw that I was CAP'd. Interviewed first week of October.

Not sure if I will continue to pursue a spot but I was very impressed with the school. Good luck to everyone else waiting out there!

Waitlisted 11/26, interviewed 10/9, interview invite 8/16, app complete 8/8, secondary received 7/19.

I will be withdrawing as I am happy with my other acceptances. I think I could have been happy a Hoya and know I would have gotten a solid education. To echo another interviewee's observation, Georgetown did stress fit more than any other school where I've interviewed. I seem to recall cura personalis and early and intensive clinical exposure were hammered home, but on the other hand, this philosophy wasn't really unique to Georgetown. Maybe they did it first...The school also felt "old school" to me.

Btw, my interviewer had clearly had my file for more than a few minutes and had read it closely.

What is the web page for the status check? I don't have that for some reason...

So for those of us that interviewed 10/22/14, today is the 6 week mark. Unless I'm mistaken, today is the first day that we can expect to hear back from admissions about a decision. Good luck to the top 20! Keep your heads up the middle 40. And, best of luck elsewhere the bottom 20.

Does anyone remember who to email when updating the admissions committee post-interview?
