2013-2014 Howard University Application Thread

I wouldn't really stretch it that far. I think every school has a system unique to them and whatever system Howard is using has obviously worked for them for years. In as much as I am a bit frustrated and worried I still love Howard and believe in her mission.

I love Howard's mission as well. I just think that we shouldn't deny how ridiculous and unprofessional this process has been. Their emails have been all over the place and this mistake has been made in the past years as well. If you email them, they are very unprofessional with their responses. And you cannot have such an illogical system where you review applications every time a spot opens up. If the pool of applicants is the same, it serves no purpose to review applications that many time. Now the real reason why they do that is because they can tell AMCAS that they have "waitlisted" students/ "alternative" listed them and gain access to which student has been accepted/waitlisted elsewhere and how likely it is that that student with accept Howard over theirs. This might seem like a good idea for some. To me, it is unprofessional and disrespectful, especially because nothing formal has come through stating our current status of admissions.

Another week about to come to an end and still no word . Good things truly don't come easy.

Howard please show me some love. Please let me in. This is my only chance 🙁 and Howard is the only place my heart yearns for. please let me in.

Hey guys. I just received this email 🙁... Well hopefully Howard will show me some love for 2015.

Dear Applicant,

This is to let you know that we have completed the admissions cycle for the class entering July 16, 2014. We have closed out the 2013-14 application cycle. The class is now full.

We hope that you have been accepted to one of the other schools to which you applied and wish you much success in all of your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Walter P. Bland, MD
Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions

Did you guys get any formal letter stating that you are on the alternate list? and to wait till july 16 to see what happens?

Does anyone know how long after orientation classes start?

Yes if people drop out they do up until the first week of instruction I believe. Does anyone know what the first day of instruction is not orientation?

Just found HUCOM calendar. Orientation is 16-22. First day of instruction is July 23.

Yep that's what the calendar says. More grace time for us.

Im assuming if you dont show up to any of the days your out??

This school is ridiculous... #Blessed...you'd be blessed not to go there believe me. Just try harder and get a school that has responsible, committed staff. Good luck!

Can't tell you how many times I've felt like throwing in the towel but some dreams don't die easy.

I guess it's time I accepted the bitter truth. All hope is lost for this year. Guys I must say it's been a pleasure making this journey with y'all. Y'all have been so encouraging all through. Just gonna sit back and await the dreaded rejection letter. Man might reject us but God would never reject us. He's always planning for our greater good. He's able y'all.

#Blessed, I am so sorry you did not get into Howard. Always remember, God has a plan for you and this was not a part of the plan. What's important is that you become a good physician one day, help those that need your help, and never be greedy. These schools and the way they conduct themselves ends up producing greedy doctors. Enjoy the journey of becoming a doctor and never give up. There are many options and routes to becoming a doctor! Keep your head up high and continue the battle to becoming a doctor, no matter how many times your'e rejected! 🙂
Cheers

Its still fair game till the 28 of JULY, but ultimately GODs plan is the best plan and GODs Timing is the best timing, so we shall always ask him to guide us and take us on this journey!

Oh wow didn't things could change even during that period. I guess there's still hope.
He's able!!! 🙂

yea historically there has been cases where they call up even two weeks into school since some students drop out for various reasons!

For the most part I think very highly of Howard and it was one of my top choices but it's also has the most unprofessional admissions office I have ever come in contact with. I hadn't heard a peep from them for months after my interview and it took me 4 weeks of emails and calls (TO AN OFFICE WHERE NO ONE EVER ANSWERS) for me to finally get an email stating they couldn't offer me anything bc the class was too big and how this year they had no movement. At least grant me a decision based on merit and interview performance rather then this.

I'm glad I am not the only person who feels that way. It would be nice for us to compose a formal letter to them explaining how unprofessional they are. It took me 8 weeks before I heard anything. Not a single professional letter was sent from the school besides the rejection. Every correspondence has multiple grammatical mistakes.

I guess this was not the school for us since we do not like how they carry things out! Good luck with medical school! These are just the annoying small steps and loops we go through and we shall continue onward! Good luck!
