2013-2014 New York University (NYU) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I interviewed back in late Sep (9/28) and didn't hear anything on the 12/20 wave. Here's hoping they're not going in strict chronological order, and there are lots more acceptances on the way!

I've been digging through old threads (as far back as 2008) and they're kind of all over the place - NYU seems to do things differently every year, so who knows. Sometimes the acceptances come out in a slow trickle, sometimes they're all at once, sometimes they're basically in chronological order, other times it seems basically random. SDN represents a small sample though, so it may not tell the whole story. I know quite a few schools will look at their first set of applicants, take a small portion of them right off the bat, and hold the rest to weigh against later interviewees. It's possible that NYU is working on a similar system. Really just some hopeful speculation though.

That makes me feel so much better! I thought I was the only nov person who hadn't heard back (11/12 interview)
My friend at Vandy who got the big scholarship received his initial acceptance about two weeks after when they promised they would tell him... And then the scholarship offer itself came after. No idea if that's relevant or not, but I'm trying to use it to comfort myself...

There's a $100 refundable deposit that you submit through the online portal. It had to be submitted within one week or you forfeit your spot.

Meh oh well. I just did it now, but my letter was date 12/11 (didn't get it earlier due to holiday travels). The system still let me do it.

Did regular applicants get an email? Bc I only got a snail mail letter for MSTP and it didn't mention this 2-week thing at all. It was just weird in general to only receive a snail mail acceptance.

Yep, we got an email and a letter in the mail.

Does anyone know if students are internally ranked during pre-clinical years at NYU?

Just got an email on a financial aid webinar specific to the school but I am not yet accepted. Was this just an email blast to all interviewees, or was it premature?

I just got it too- also interviewed but haven't been accepted- did anyone not receive it?

Also got it and interviewed but haven't yet heard.

Also got it. My guess is they sent it to everyone who's interviewed.

I hope they release decisions prior to the webinar.... Imagine attending and subsequently being rejected 🙁

I think it's because even if you haven't heard yet post-interview, you're still in the running for an acceptance anyway, so you'll need to know what NYU requires for financial aid.

Mid-end of January...... My money is on the end of this week since they will want to increase attendance for their webinar on the 22nd 🙂

Got the FA Webinar invite via e-mail today. Thought it was a decision e-mail. It would be a kick in the balls to be rejected next week.

Emailed AdCom, they said that it doesn't reflect admissions decision.
did they happen to mention when decisions are really coming out....what is this mid to end of january business. its torture. such a wide range.

They never tell you anything. I've tried contacting them in early December, and they will just tell you that all decisions will be out by the end of January.

I think my heart skipped a beat when I saw an e-mail from NYU... and then I read the whole subject line 🙁

I think I'll attend the webinar though

I would love to watch the webinar, but I have a class at that time (and I don't think it would look very good to miss the first week of a once-a-week class...)
Was anyone planning on recording it? Gotta admit, I feel pretty ignorant on the whole financial aid process

I also would find it very helpful if someone recorded the webinar... I live on the west coast and will be working during this time 🙁

I get the feeling it might be tomorrow too since the financial aid talk is next week, and the last time, they sent acceptances on a Friday.

I shouldn't have read the thread this late. Now I can't go to sleep thinking that the next wave of decisions might come out tomorrow.

Spoke to an admissions office rep. after receiving an email saying that they did not have my SSN on file. I had to call to give them my SSN; the person I talked to let me know that decisions would be out on Jan. 31st.

They say that all the time like a broken record, but in the past, they always release all acceptances before that final decision time haha.

That's so cruel 🙁 They told us mid to late January on Twitter!

I don't know what to believe anymore!

If anyone needs me, I'll be in the angry dome

Probably a good sign! 👍
