Note: This space is provided for new information only, not to promote qualifications already highlighted in your other materials. (400 word limit)

Good luck to everyone applying! :luck:

Space reserved for prompt.

Please PM the essays or lack thereof to me when the secondary is available and I will update this.

Good luck to everyone applying! :luck:

I will be attending the OUWB this fall and although I haven't started classes yet, I hopefully can offer some advice on their application process, their admissions staff (seriously awesome individuals), the area, and any questions you may have about their teaching hospital. If I don't know the answer I should be able to find someone who can. Cheers and good luck this cycle!

This seems like a cool place, hope i get some IS love

Just a word to anyone who applied to Oakland last year and is reapplying this year: schedule an appointment with Dean Grabowski to go over your app. She does a great job thoroughly explaining specific weaknesses you might have had.

Do this! I did and made sure to explain how I strengthened my application in both my secondaries and interview.

Not attending OUWB, but I want to take a moment to give it a public shout out for all the upcoming applicants that might be on razor's edge between applying (or not) to their program.

It was a very nice school in a (VERY) nice area. Beaumont is a huge asset with a surplus of excellent training opportunities in beautiful surroundings (I always hatred grungy hospitals).

If OUWB's curriculum was a little different (and it was closer to my hometown), I would have no reservations about attending.

Give them a shot.

The staff is among the most amicable that I encountered all season and they truly seem vested in your success.

OUWB. 🙂👍

Thank you for the OUWB shout out, good luck at UPitt!

I'll be applying here with OOS status.

I actually got a flyer in the mail encouraging me to apply here, checked out the area and it seemed beautiful. Researched more about the program and I would love to go there.

I looked at their website and was really impressed at how transparent they're trying to be about the whole process and their school; definitely going to apply (for those & other reasons).

For the prerequisite course section, what exactly do we do if we took quarter-system classes??

For the prerequisite coursework, can I pick any two biology classes that I want to put? Or should I put the most basic classes that I took first?

Write that in the notes section.

I put my basic intro bio classes there.

For the sciences, I'd probably put the more basic ones. For the social science, etc., though, I'm going to put the more interesting/relevant ones, 🙂.

Also received secondary.

On AMCAS, my LoRs are marked as RECEIVED but Oakland says they haven't received any from AMCAS. Anyone else have this problem?

Sorry if this sounds like a silly question but for the question "What have you done to make your community a better place?" is this sort of just a restatement of your volunteering activities? I have already written about this in my primary so is it ok if this sounds completely redundant in the secondary?

Can you take a different approach? For example, instead of describing what you did via your volunteer gig, could you tell a story as an example of impact?

Ok that sounds like a good idea. I guess I'll emphasize more of what I learned from the experience and how I impacted other's lives instead of just restating what I specifically did.

👍 Sounds like a much nicer essay. Good luck!

What are the essays?

1. What have you done to make your community a better place?

2. Is there anything you want the admissions committee to know about your qualifications for medical school that is not already represented in your application materials?

3. Lapses in grades

Thanks! Any character limits?

Is anyone else experiencing a glitch when entering their Biology 2 course title on the secondary application? For some reason, after saving and coming back to the prereq section, the Biology 2 course title is always blank even though I entered the course title before saving. 😕

I have also had that problem. Also its saying that they don't have my letters even though I am verified. I submitted my app anyway and I am going to call them on monday.

i have this same question. So I can pick which ever bio classes I want? in that case, wouldnt you choose the bio classes that you did well in???

I had the same problem. I just saved it, then retyped the bio 2 course title then saved again. It was there for me the 2nd time.

Same problem.

According to another school thread, AAMC hasn't send out all of the information to the schools yet so that's probably why LORs aren't showing up.

I dunno if we're looking at different secondaries, but mine says:

3. Optional: Please explain any gaps in your education, if applicable.

I took this to be, "if you weren't a student for a continuous period, explain why."

At the time you first started college, had either of your parents earned an associate degree or higher?

this question. is it asking about the timing of when my parents got a degree or if that they have a degree in the first place?

Yeah same secondary. I took it to be gaps in good grades. For instance, if you're a 3.8 student who got 4.0's every semester except one, and in that one you got a 2.0. That would be a gap.

This is how I took it as well.

Question: Do you think applying the year of your graduation applies here? I graduated in May and will have this year off as I apply. Some schools explicitly state not to considering time off after graduation.

Wait woah woah woah I took this as gaps in education like what did I do on my time off from school after graduating.......

Yeah, I would think that way too. But then some secondary in the compilation excel I have said explicitly not to consider time after graduation so that's why I'm asking. I think I'll probably write about taking this year off to be safe.

What compilation excel?

It's from a few years ago, but there's an Excel sheet with pretty much all the secondaries in one file. PM me if you want me to send, but just a heads up that some have changed (even then though, it seems only very slightly... like one of my schools just added one question). You can also look at last year's threads for the questions but this was my lazy way to get an overall idea, 🙂.

For essay 3 ("Please explain any gaps in your education, if applicable") does taking a post-bacc count as a gap in education if I immediately enrolled into the program from my undergrad?

Sorry, kind of confused by your question, 😳.

haha nvm. im just going to call admissions on Monday. Im super confused about the prerequisites part as well because my school is under the quarter system. -_-

There is a section where you can indicate whether the class is in the quarter system or semester system.

yea i know. But since one quarter does not equal one semester, it makes things more complicated.

You are supposed to use the "notes" section to indicate whether or not you have done additional coursework. For example, they require one semester of organic chemistry. At my school, I have done three quarters of organic chemistry so I am explaining that in the notes section.
