2013-2014 Temple University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got mine sometime last week. I remember reading on SDN somewhere where it took a month until the adcom discovered they had made a mistake and rescinded an offer. I'm still in disbelief and am waiting for that to happen.

I don't believe that's possible - I've been told at several schools that by AAMC trafficking rules they (but not applicants) are required to honor accepted offers of admission. If so, the student could've pretty easily fought that medical school and won out.

Accepted!!! I'm going to be a doctor!!!!. II earlier last week!!!

Accepted! Woo! First one and it feels fantastic! Interviewed on 10/15!

Uh oh. Interviewed on 10/15 ..

If you remember they said they weren't going to look at our apps till today... I think I just got lucky. (In state/Philly local etc). Don't stress- goodluck!

I second this. There's no reason to think the unthinkable 10 days after your interview. My app could have just happened to be on top of a pile. This process is sort of random, so don't despair, everything will work out!!

Does anyone know if Temple does multiple mini interviews/group interviews, or are they individual?

Individual, 2 30 minute interviews, 1 with student and 1 with faculty

Last year waitlist letters were received around this time....
Can any current speak to the quality of financial aid (and specifically, merit aid) at Temple? At this point I probably would have to withdraw from there if not offered some form of scholarship (80k COA is steep). :/

To be fair does any school tell you where you are on the waitlist?

I read this as they don't tell you are on a waitlist at all, but there is some ambiguity there. If they released waitlist notifications last year then your interpretation must be correct.

Yes, they'll send you a 'continuing candidates list' letter if you are waitlisted. Last year was pretty bad and no one got accepted from the waitlist (including me). Hope that doesn't happen again.

Oh jeez...that information definitely does not sit well with me! I interview tomorrow! So nervous, especially for the student interview.

Don't worry about the interviewers... they were my favorite interviews that I've had so far! My student interviewer was so awesome! It should be relatively stress free 🙂

Okay, I'll take your word for it! Thanks 🙂

I know a few such scholarships exist, but unless you're seriously an academic rock star it's not likely. You'll have to wait until closer to spring to get an idea of what they can offer you.

I've been "Under Review" for over two months…. does the status stay like this all the way until April if you're rejected? Or am I seriously still under review?

I hope it's not too late to catch you, but super super do not worry. I got to to the interview thing here twice, and the students were far and away the easiest parts, and the faculty interview was a snap too. Most students will interview you in the main lobby, and it's really just a chance for you to show how personable you can be with a peer. Grab some coffee in the admissions office and just pretend you're meeting a friend's friend. You'll do great!

Thank you! It was exactly as you said--very stress-free, very relaxed. Had a great first interview experience and love everything I saw today. 🙂 Faculty interview could have gone better, but overall I think the interviews went well! Crossing my fingers and sending up lots of prayers!

Does anyone know when the next round of notifications go out for people that have interviewed?

That's fantastic! If you have strong feels for this place, be sure to write a thoughtful thank you note to your interviewers and prep an update later for a month or so from now. PM me for advice if you'd like.

what days were still available??
The email said that they are currently scheduling interviews through the end of November. All the November interview dates were still available.

Any scholarship money available at this school? Trying to see if the interview is worth attending

oh wow why is temple so incredibly slow with the interview invites? i was complete way back in august and haven't heard a thing yet... still under review whatever the hell that means...

Guess I'm the first on SDN to get waitlisted. Really a shame since I loved this school.

FWIW I didn't think my faculty interview went very well

What about it makes you think it didn't go well? My interviewer brought up a shortcoming in my application and brought up something that I found a little concerning, but the rest of the interview aside from that went pretty well in my opinion. Also, being waitlisted isn't the end of the world like it was last year! Keep your head up and your fingers crossed, you're not out of the running yet!

I really happy the II have not passed my complete date. Does anyone know if Temple review in order of completion date or random?

I just didn't jive with her and I was getting frustrated by how most of the conversation was about her because I felt like she wasn't getting to know me at all. I ended up accidentally interrupting her, which I think was probably one of the nails in my coffin.

As far as the waitlist goes, I can't imagine that I would hold out past may 15 since I've been accepted to an equally wonderful school already. Just sucks that I don't have the option of Temple.

Oh, okay. I understand what you mean :/ . Still, that's great you have another acceptance under your belt! Either way you're going to be a doctor!

Can anyone comment on the surrounding area? I've heard from people that one of the streets there is called the "100-meter dash" cause apparently if you don't sprint, you'll get shot... I know this is just a joke and not true but is the surrounding area really that bad?

I've worked here for two years, and while it's not Center City, it's really not that bad. Broad Street is incredibly well lit, most of the violent crime is actually on Main Campus and there's a police force here that rivals the city of Philadelphia. If you're aware of your surroundings and careful, you'll be fine. The neighborhood is supposed to be a draw; these people don't get care because they're poor, and they're on your doorstep. I've had late, late night time points and still got home safely. That being said, you should decide for yourself whether or not you're comfortable.

so does temple jump around for interviews? looks like some people were offered a few weeks after they submitted in October, but now someone just reported an II today from an August completion....?

The students on the tour said they feel 100% safe on campus, and that Temple University's police force is one of the highest staffed in the country or something. I don't remember that statistic exactly, but the point is that they feel safe getting to and from campus at all hours of the night. The area for me is on of the many draws of Temple, being that I want to help serve that type of community. Don't sweat it!
