2013-2014 Temple University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Got a snail mail letter today letting me know I'm a continuing candidate (aka wait list--the wording was deceptively friendly haha). Congrats to everyone that heard good news!

I love how they were "pleased" to inform us of that status, lol. :/

I haven't seen any post-interview rejections posted here yet, but I guess that doesn't mean much. Hopefully our applications aren't sitting in that pile!

I scanned through last year's thread. It seems like Temple doesn't do post-interview rejections. From what I saw, you have three options:
1) Accepted via email
2) Waitlisted (aka "continuing candidates list") via snail mail
3) No response until after March-ish

If anyone else is more familiar and can provide better information than I gleaned from a half-assed scan of last year's thread, please share. I'm sure we're not the only two people who are curious about this.

So does that mean people like us who have been waiting for 6-7 weeks for a response might not get one at all? That seems a little harsh to not let us know anything until March. For what it is worth I was told by the admissions office the next meeting is 12/06 and we SHOULD hear something by then. They claim they have been backed up lately. I am in the same boat as I interviewed 10/10....seems like ages ago.

For those who have already been accepted, are any of you heavily considering or set on Temple?
I like Temple a lot and am heavily considering attending. I'm waiting to see if I get accepted to the main campus and also to Jefferson.

Interview invite this morning!!

Complete mid-August. Was about to send an update but guess I don't have to. Only problem is the interview dates are right before Christmas and right after New Years. Going to be hard to get off of work...

No II yet, still uder review since September. I guess no news is bad news!!!

Last year my friend was under review in September and got an II in APRIL. Not kidding, April, I asked her twice because I didn't even know they interview that late but I guess when you have 1000+ interviews to conduct you may go into april.

Has anyone had a status change PRE interview letting them know that they wouldn't be invited for an interview?

If I wait a few days to schedule my interview will new interview dates open up? Or am I stuck with the available dates? I've held off scheduling since Wednesday and it does not seem like the available interview times are disappearing.

If the date you want isn't shown yet I'd recommend just calling and they can schedule it on their end, they were really friendly. I was told you only have 2 weeks to schedule your interview from the invitation date. I had waited a week hoping my date would open up, but they seem to only release 1-2 weeks of new days every week or two.

For those that were put on the waitlist, does the website indicate a status other than "interview complete"?

Thank you! I'll think about it but it might be worth calling for a later interview date.

Nope, that's the status I have still and I received my waitlist notification over a week ago.

My status is still under review. Waiting is painful!!

any recent acceptances/waitlisted for people who interviewed in November? the wait is killing me.

Will the committee send out II invitation after today's meeting?? My status still under review.......

Sorry, I wish I knew the answer to that question, but I don't. You can try contacting Temple and asking them. Otherwise just keep waiting...

I wouldn't read too much into the post-interview wait. It primarily depends on who your interviewer is and what their frequency of attendance at meetings is. And that just depends on their own schedule and responsibilities.

My faculty interviewer was a "higher up" who attends all of them and plays a big role in this shpeel so I was lucky to hear back a week after the interview. But that's far outside the norm. I'm strongly considering coming here (but didn't get main campus..grrrr) and given how supportive everyone on this thread is, I'm hopeful many of you will be future classmates!

...looks like another week of waiting. The anticipation is killing me. Definitely the longest I've waited to hear back from any of the programs I've interviewed. 🙁

And I thought waiting for my MCAT score(s) was killer...

oh..you're right! sorry guys!

Do we think more decisions will come out today? I was under the impression during my interview the committee was meeting last friday.

Don't know about decisions, but I interviewed last week and they mentioned they were meeting on Friday (dec. 6) to review interviewees not from my interview week but the interview week before since they lost a week due to thanksgiving.

I interviewed in October 8 but haven't heard anything back. I interviewed at St Lukes. Someone that I met there on interview day got accepted already, but I haven't heard anything. Does this mean I got rejected? Should I call the admissions office?

Not 100% sure, but I think there is a continuing candidates list where they place people on this list (essentially on hold) and don't let you know about it. Since you interviewed that long ago, you might be on that list.

Edit: Here's the information: http://www.temple.edu/medicine/admissions/invited_for_interview.htm

Don't they send out a snail mail letter for people that are on the continuing candidate list? At least from the other response that is what it seems like. I interviewed 10/10 and still waiting to hear back.

Yes, the said all official decision are sent via snail male (jk,mail 🙂), but those accepted also receive a short email. Good luck everyone!

As Spica mentioned and as others have posted, they do, yes.

From the Temple Med website: "Students are notified of the Committee decision several weeks after the interview, but not before October 15 of the year before admission. Some candidates may be placed on the continuing candidate list after interview. An applicant’s placement on the continuing candidate list is confidential and will not be shared with the applicant."

Although I knew applicants were notified of their waitlist status post-interview, that passage on the site mislead me. Maybe the list is confidential at first until they make a definite decision, which is when they notify the applicant of their position?

When I interviewed, they told us it may take 4-6 weeks after the committee meets to discuss your application until you hear a decision. Since you interviewed that long ago, it may not hurt to inquire about your status.

Sorry for the confusion, I hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. I have called...a few times, but I have been getting the run around saying that I will hear something within the next 2 weeks for about a month now. Hopefully I hear good news this Friday, if not I might write a letter to admissions next week. I was very early in the cycle so its mind boggling that I have not heard yet, I don't know if anyone else interviewed that long ago that hasn't heard back.

II today! Complete 8/25.

For those of you that attended an interview here, what are some things that stood out to you? I hear nothing but good things about TUSM, but I'm concerned about the area and tuition.

Congrats! I had a great impression of the school when I interviewed there- the students seemed happy, my faculty interviewer was very pleasant, and the facilities were very clean and modern. Obviously observe common sense when going out at night (walking in well-lighted areas in groups), but safety-wise the students don't seem to run into that much trouble.

II today, complete 7/23Just goes to show that it's a long cycle and not to freak out if you aren't immediately fortunate enough to get an II
My status is still under review. Do you mind share your status with us?

If you have time, check out the library. It's a way undersold resource, the staff are fantastic and we have pretty decent access to electronic resources. The area is not University City, but it's also kind of the draw. You get presentations you don't see anywhere else, and I've been thanked on the subway several time for the work I do (HIV/AIDS research). I've been working here for two years, often leave lab late at night and have never had a problem.

Also, in the main lobby look up. There are a bunch of microbe sculptures; they're kind of hokey, but I like them.

Tuition I can't speak to since I seems to bite everywhere. I know that they offer way more in living expenses than is necessary to live comfortably in Philly, for what it's worth.

I also had some concerns about the area going into my interview, but I got a bit of a perspective shift while there. Temple really emphasizes serving the underserved, and from the schools' point of view that makes their location ideal. The students and faculty I spoke with all felt perfectly safe and there are always campus police and escorts available if you want them, apparently. I really had a great interview day there, the building is beautiful and everyone was very welcoming.

Good luck!
