Any people who have interviewed at TC have any insight into the interview?

Any OOS interviewees have tips on travel/transportation arrangements?

Two faculty: one adcom and one other. I think some people in my group had student interviewers. I actually had the chair of the adcom and a medical ethics professor. Fairly conversational but with some structure. Be an active participant in the presentations, because you may be evaluated.

Suggestions... I arrived a day early and stayed a couple days after to explore the city and area. Soak in the culture. And you can tell your interviewers too. One of mine was really impressed that I talked about liking the commuter bike paths in the part of the city i visited. You need to express why you want to go there.

Interesting article for us oos folks who are thinking about going here. Didn't change my opinion, still depends on the dollars, but interesting nonetheless.

Any OOSers thinking about coming to the U of MN, please don't let this article sway your decision. This is a really weird story based almost solely on anecdotal evidence. Medical school is a completely different environment from the one described in the article. Making new friends in medical school will be nowhere near as difficult as making friends in the professional world.

I stayed in a cheap motel in a town called Burnsville (<$50 for a night. not a nice place, but warm and safe). It was really easy to get to campus from there (2 buses...but still very easy). I think it took about an hour from the hotel to the campus. Depending on how much you want to spend, you can find cheap-ish hotels closer to the campus. Some of the people I interviewed with stayed with student hosts, so I guess that might be an option- you may have to contact the admissions office directly to ask about that.

Hey I just got offered an interview for 1/6. Anybody else interviewing that day or week? Also, I grew up in Mpls and currently live here. I moved to Seattle for undergrad, and came back because I think Minneapolis is an amazing place. Please let me know if you have any questions about the Twin Cities and whether or not you will like it here. I could probably write you a book about what living in this city is like. 🙂

It hurts even worse coming from my own state and especially since I live in a rural area and demonstrated my commitment to rural medicine pretty well (so I thought). Are you IS?

No. I'm native american, so I really liked the emphasis on NA medicine here.

I'll see you there!!! I'm OOS but I've been to Minneapolis several times for soccer, vacations, etc. Good luck!

I called the admissions office today. Decisions are now expected to take 6-8 weeks!

You will probably hear this week, or so I hope 🙂 Cuz that would mean I would hear back in two ish weeks as well 🙂

Has anyone who interviewed on or after October 18th heard any news?

Congrats! If I don't get into cclcm I'm 80% sure I'm going here. We should discover a virus and call it the HPE-Sisko. Sounds virusy.

I interviewed on the 18th as well and just received a call from dean Patel!! Best gift for a Friday! Good luck to all those still waiting!

Just interviewed today! Good luck to those still waiting to hear back 🙂

Anyone who has interviewed on 10/25 or 10/28 hear back yet?

Captain Sisko, did you get the email on Friday letting accepted students know that they have not yet met to discuss scholarships? See, all of your anxiety has been for naught!

I completed my secondary 10/06/2013, interviewed 11/01/2013 and got my acceptance call from Dimple yesterday! 12/06/2013 around 3pm 😀

Congratulations! That's so exciting. So you interviewed November 11? That's a much faster turnaround than it seems like most people are getting, any indication of why it was so quick?

Congrats to the two fast turn arounds. That is super exciting. Maybe the committee is trying to get more apps reviewed before they go one break for the holidays?

Thank you!

I honestly have no idea. I was expecting to be awaiting news until mid January so I was really surprised to hear anything before the holidays.

Good luck to those still awaiting news!

yeah I did get that. I was happy. When I get rejected from CCLCM I'm going to need $$ to afford the U 🙂

best of luck to all who are still waiting!

Can anyone give any insight as to what we need to know going into it? My interview at UNM was very rural knowledge and state healthcare heavy. Is the TC interview going to be about the same? Just curious as to what they're 'emphasis' is, I couldn't really get an accurate read from the website. Also, I'm in a bit of need of advice, I got accepted to UNM already, should I mention that at the interview or not?Feel free to PM me, I'd actually probably prefer it because I'm not always on here but I do get emails with PMs.Thanks 🙂 And congrats to all that have been accepted!!! Dreams really do come true!

I interviewed 10/25 and was really hoping to hear back today... guess I'll have to wait for next week. Anyone who interviewed 10/25 or 10/28 get anything yet (emails, letters, calls)?

I interviewed on 10/25 as well. I don't think that the committee has made decisions for our group yet, or at least, I haven't heard of anyone from our interview getting a decision.

Just going off my experience, I felt that they generally asked the kind of questions you might expect - why here? what makes you special/why should we accept you? why medicine? - I know some applicants in my interview group got questions about the affordable health care act and ethical questions but I did not get any of these. Dean Patel mentioned that the interviewers have a set of standardized questions that they are supposed to be asking the applicants, but I think they usually only randomly pick a few of these (I am surmising this from the fact that none of us got all the same questions, although we were able to identify quite a few "common" questions). And then some of the questions depend on the interviewer - I got a couple questions from one of my interviewers that weren't even close to what anyone else got asked.

As the matter of fact I did get a call from dean Patel on Nov 20 with decision. I honestly don't know how this whole thing works. One of the interviewee I know from our group got a call a week after the interview. Just be patient and I'm sure you will get your call soon.🙂

Hey guys, anyone have any tips on where I might consider living? My wife and I prefer a smallish house, would like an easy commute, preferably bike or light rail to the med school. We're tired of suburbia and we'd also like to be closer to bars and restaurants, ie walking distance. Does this sound doable? Any advice on neighborhoods?

Thanks!

I've got the same question as Captain Sisko, but a slightly different circumstance.

I'm looking for apartments within walking distance, preferably 1 bedroom. Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks for the help!

I live in Prospect Park area - it's about a 15 minute walk to the health sciences building (if you walk at a pretty good clip). I also believe there is a small blue house for sale in the area right now - or at least there was last time I walked by it (about 1-2 weeks ago). There is also a lightrail station in the area and several buses that go straight to the U.MN. The light rail is not due to be completed until late next year (last I heard), but hopefully it will be online for Winter 2014. There are a few pretty nice condominium complexes with units for rent in the area. I wouldn't exactly call the immediate area around Prospect Park teeming with restaurant and bar options, but there are some great options within a short drive of the area.

Does this mean you've settled on UMN?

I'd suggest checking out the East Bank/Nicollet Island area. It's one of the most walkable neighborhoods of Minneapolis, with access by foot to grocery stores, tons of restaurants and bars, and numerous parks. The demographic is predominately young professionals (vs. the undergraduate heavy neighborhoods directly around campus). While there's no lightrail connection to campus, there are buses and bike paths. I don't think there are typically many available houses, but there are some great townhouses and unique apartment/condo complexes!

Thanks everyone. I'll plug those into zillow and see what comes up.

No, nothing is settled but it's looking more likely. I didn't hear anything from CCLCM which means I'm most likely either WL or rejected. Given the odds, and my "hoping" that they rejected me, I should probably consider coming to the U. I wish I figured that out earlier- it was interview #2 out of 12 total! I guess all I need to know now is if I've any aid coming my way. But even if not, they have those nifty research assistantships that qualify you as in-state for tuition.

Any MD/PhD applicants here? Any news yet? I finished the application a long, long time ago and haven't had any luck yet with getting an II. Any ideas about when they stop giving out IIs?
