Matriculated (removing PLME students): 7 IS, 67 OOS, 1 international
So your odds are pretty good compared to many other schools, about 1/3 of interviewees matriculate to Brown. Here's to hoping I'm part of that <4% that gets an interview :xf:

To add, USNWR reports an 80% post interview acceptance rate. Not sure if it includes PLME or not. Assuming that PLME is not included in the interviewed # but is in the accepted #, their post interview acceptance rate for non PLME applicants appears to be more like 70%.
 
I am not sure why there has only been one wave... But I can say that the admissions office is super friendly and helpful, and respond promptly to emails! Gotta love that.

I don't think so, especially since they don't consider that program until after the class is admitted IIRC. Some people want to focus on the one-on-one experience, and others the policy. Both are equally important, so I don't see why brown would knock someone down for that

I agree. There are multiple routes to choose from when interested in primary care. MD-ScM is just one of them. Even if you are interested in policy, Brown has its own MPH program/school, and MPP as well, if I am not mistaken. I'm sure if you explained in your "future" essay what you are passionate about and why, you'll be fine. Brown seems very much like a "choose your own path kind of school". It would be hypocritical for them to bottle neck everyone interested in policy/primary care/community health into one program.

I wonder, though, if they take a look at the MD-ScM program essays during the regular admissions (when they are deciding for regular MD admissions). It would be a shame/waste if they didn't read it. Anyone have any insight into this? I'm hoping they do. The two essays are a good replacement in lieu of the "future" essay, and helps MD-ScM applicants show what they are passionate about regardless of their specific implications on MD-ScM admissions.
 
Okay...considering sending an ITA email. Anyone aware of their policy on these? It may be just the motivation they need to send out a second round of II's.

Hi there. Current second year here. My understanding is that every application is considered in full when a decision is being made as to whether to extend an interview invite. So, if you have applied to the MD-ScM program, your MD-ScM essays will be read.

To address the concerns about interest in primary care outside of the MD-ScM program: Brown has been and still is a school that values primary care. The regular (MD only) route of admissions is still a wonderful way to go if you are interested in primary care.

I was worried about this too because I am interested in primary care but did not feel that I needed to complete the Masters to practice in primary care (and I wanted to spend the time potentially taking other electives, etc.). I applied without submitting the MD-ScM app and wrote about my primary care interests; they still granted me an interview 🙂

Hi Insomniyack, thanks for chiming in as a current student. As far as admissions go, when should we consider ourselves out of the running ? Does Brown extend II in the order they receive secondary submissions? I'm really interested in the school but haven't heard anything for about two months now. Thanks again for your help!

There is no "normal" time frame. I wish I could give you a more concrete answer, but there just isn't one. Admissions decisions, from IIs to acceptances, are part of a fluid process.

I wouldn't read into perceived delays this year. Admissions has already received close to 5,000 secondaries, which is a crazy number for mid-September. If things are a little slow, its a volume issue.

Patience is essential for this process. I was invited to interview in late January and came to Brown in mid February, if that gives you some solace.

Is Brown receptive to pre-interview updates? I sent them one letter of interest, but I have an update with grades and new leadership position... Thanks!

How long ago did you send the first letter? Ideally those two correspondences would have been combined into one, but it sounds like it's too late for that.

I'm not sure if they are receptive to updates. I would just personally exercise caution when sending multiple letters for fear of overwhelming / annoying the admissions office. Someone else with personal experience or knowledge about browns process may have a more useful perspective though!

Yea I figured that! I just found out yesterday about an update, otherwise I would've included it before. I'll hold off on the letter until later. Thanks!

First year here...wanted to add that PLMEs are not included in the interview stat. Last year it was a big discussion on this thread so I decided to ask. Hope that helps!

First Year Here. Short Answer: No. I mean you may have an interest in Primary care now, but that could always change (not saying it will). Also, next year will be the program's first year. So, I'm sure they won't hold that against you.

After doing some research, it seems that the MD-ScM program has a unique admissions process.
Does anyone know anything about the interview day for those who applied for the MD-ScM?

This year they are interviewing everyone together, regardless of program. You can also apply for MD-ScM after acceptance to the MD program.

Hi! I'm a current MS2, and I don't think they're having special interview days for the MD-ScM applicants -- I was chatting with an admissions person yesterday about the new program and I got the sense that the MD-ScM applicants were mixed in with the regular MD applicants. I think that the admissions team knows their charge in terms of the type of student they want to admit for that program, but isn't doing anything different in the interview day for them. At least for this year.

Edit -- haha, sorry, just saw that someone else already replied! 🙂

Yeah, I read that a part of of the AMA grant was going towards a new admissions process, so I was not sure if that was already in place. Well then, I guess I will have to really convey my interest in the program.
 
Has anyone interviewed yet that would like to discuss the experience?

What does ITA mean? Does anyone know if their admissions offices likes updates? Have had a lot of exciting things happen recently!!

In The Area, i have 4 interviews in that general region and plane tickets are expensive. Not trying to be greedy i'd just like to know either way. I'd hate to miss an opportunity bc i've maxed out my finances and time off.

Frontier flies out east sometimes super cheap, depending on where you live obv. - I flew both ways on frontier for $140 and booked it 48 hours ahead of time, from Colorado.
