Oh, dear! I was afraid of this. (But am glad that CCLCM is attracting so many great candidates!) I am a mere "Hold." A sincere question, though perhaps naive--does a letter of intent have any effect on deliberations or is it seen merely as the desperate plea for admission that it is? (It is difficult for me to imagine anyone NOT wanting to attend CCLCM, should she or he be fortunate enough to be admitted!) Would you offer some advice?

I would not send such a letter.

For CCLCM, probably not, especially if you interviewed from early Dec and onwards. If you interviewed during this period, the admissions committee just hasn't made a decision about you yet at all since your application (due to the timing of when you interviewed) wasn't considered for the first batch of acceptances.

If you interviewed before December for CCLCM, well...maybe they just haven't made up their minds??

I really don't think a letter of intent will add to the totality of one's application. At this point of the process, the adcom is assuming that every applicant has the committed desire to come to CCLCM if accepted... especially with such a small class of 32 students per year. I would hope that in one of your interviews at CCLCM that you have expressed this desire.

You will have two interviews; one faculty interview and one student interview. The faculty interview can occur any time during the day, depending on the faculty's availability. I had mine at 2pm, while others had theirs at 9am, for instance. The tone depends on the interviewer, but in general, it is pretty laid back. They will have a list of standard questions prepared, but may or may not adhere to the list. The faculty interview is open file.
The student interview takes place in the afternoon, either at 2pm or 3pm. The student has access to your activities and your personal statement. They also have questions prepared for you. Something to keep in mind is that the student interview is given equal weight as the faculty interview, so make sure to shine 🙂
Other than the interviews, the day is pretty relaxed. There's a bit of downtime, and you'll get a chance to wander the building and mingle with other interviewees.
You will hear from some members of the admissions committee as well as from the financial aid folks. You'll have lunch with a few students, and then go on a student led tour of the buildings.
The day should end at around 4 at latest, earlier if your faculty interview is in the morning.
That's about all I can remember.

This is exactly how my interview day was as well

I interviewed on 2/6 and received an email saying I was wait listed earlier today
Edit: sorry for any confusion it wasn't technically a wait list description it was "hold for further consideration"

Rejected UT pre-interview just now. They must be done with II's. This was in the email:

"Our inability to offer you an interview should not be viewed as a comment on your suitability for a career in medicine, but rather, as a result of the large number of highly competitive applicants to our medical school."

I really appreciate that. My stats are a bit lower than the avg Case applicant so I am not too surprised, but I like that they did not wait until end of March to tell me. Good luck to everyone still in the running at this awesome school! 🙂

Glad to hear this. If you can love Cleveland during this Winter Wonderland, you are definitely in love! I'm hoping we all have reciprocated love --and soon--and end up where we should be.

Has anyone sent a thank you letter to the admissions office to be forwarded to your interviewer? Didn't get the email address during the interview and wanted to know what the best method is.

I sent mine to Eileen from the admissions office, and she was really nice about forwarding it to my interviewer. Her email should be in your blue folder 🙂

Congrats to those who have been accepted, and best wishes to those who didn't get accepted. Second look is rapidly approaching, and the admissions committee does an awesome job! Several of my classmates have told me that second look is what convinced them that this is where they wanted to go to school.

Yes! Except I think @adcom101 said that it'd be a week or two after the decisions are made in order to verify PI information and such. I wonder if they've ever decided to accept someone, called their PI, found that either the student hadn't done research or that the PI really disliked them, and then CCLCM reversed their decision...

It seems strange since PIs are also typically LOR writers.

Received the merit scholarship prompt in an email this morning. Does anyone know how competitive it is, and if there's a chance at all?
