2014-2015 Case Western Reserve University Application Thread

Hi, so I was put on high hold for CCLCM. Does that mean it is the waiting list and my application will not be reconsidered for the second batch of acceptances around 2/24?

Everyone on hold will be reconsidered at the second ranking meeting in February. Assuming you've interviewed, consider this status update to be a placeholder until the final initial 32 are selected. Then you will hear about accept, waitlist, etc.

@adcom101, do you know what it means if we were not placed on high hold this morning and when we can expect to hear anything? Thank you so much!

Not sure but it likely means the office hasn't had a chance to input everyone's status yet. Could mean anything, decision-wise. Try not to read into it too much.

Thanks! That's super helpful to know.

The hold email said "... We will have more information after April 30, 2015."
Will we really be reevaluated?

For people who've been accepted to the UT, has anyone received a background check request yet? I've been expecting one since I got in in November, and now I'm wondering if I lost that email in my spam folder or something...

I've gotten a background check request but it might have been sent by another school.

Yeah I got an email asking me to do the background check thing a few days ago.

I got this about a week ago

I did not receive one either, accepted in December.

Let me clarify some things about the CT program. 16 acceptances have already been offered/notified. Interviews are ending by the first week of February. On or about 2/24, #17-32 will be ranked from all candidates that have not been rejected to this point. Shortly after that date, the next round of 16 acceptances will be notified. If you are not in the top 32, you will be rejected or put on a waitlist (likely ranked as well, 33, 34, 35...etc). I don't think that they will tell you where you are ranked. However, about 8-12 from the waitlist will get accepted. As I stated earlier about 40-44 acceptances are offered each year to fill a class of 32. Best of luck to everyone. As long as your file is open and you have not been rejected by 2/24, you still have a shot. Stay positive and keep your hopes up.

Thanks! That's how I thought it worked. However, this morning, several people were placed on a "high hold" waitlist, which stated that the applicants would get more info after April 30.

I am confused as to whether the people on high hold are eligible to be accepted next month, and as to what it means at this point to have no status update. Since I haven't been notified of a rejection yet, I'm assuming I still have a shot. But why have some people been waitlisted and others haven't heard anything?

Hopefully my question is more clear now.

A waitlist is not generated until #17-32 is ranked. So, I don't understand what that means at all b/c it doesn't make sense. Other candidates have yet to be interviewed. The last candidate interviewed in the first week of February could be an excellent candidate and be ranked #17 on 2/24. So right now, as long as you are not rejected and your application is open, you will have a chance to be ranked. All open applications are reviewed, discussed and ranked.

That's what I was expecting, but some waitlist emails seem to have gone out today. I was just confused since I didn't think a waitlist would be generated until late February.

Thanks for the info though!

pre-II UT rejection, via email, complete August, low LM. bye Case, gl to everyone else!

@sunflower18, @FictiousForce, @g gnome, did you guys receive the background check request from [email protected]? I'd already set my filters to never send emails from that address to spam, so if that's the address, I guess it's just a matter of more waiting.

For what it's worth, I haven't received one either. I think we are just waiting.... that's what this whole application cycle is about!

Are there any current students of UT that would be willing to answer a couple questions I have about Block 1? I was wondering how rigorous these 5 weeks are and what the weekly/daily schedule is like? How much work was there outside of class? Would I be able to get everything done between the hours of a typical work day? My husband and I are trying to plan childcare options for that time period should I matriculate and would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

I still haven't heard anything from CCLCM.. Anyone else in the same boat?
Well, @simplyme25, there is me, taking in the deafening silence and trying to determine whether that indicates reason to hope or that rejections are input after High Hold and Hold status changes. 🤔

I got accepted to the UT last week, and I called Certiphi yesterday to check if they had sent out the email to me. It turns out that my file was forgotten about. They immediately sent the email after my inquiry. If you haven't called them yet, I highly recommend doing it.

Thank you for the suggestion! But actually just 2 days after posting on here, I got an email from Certiphi haha. Glad you were able to catch their mistake.

Does anyone know if they still have open interview dates/sending out II? I was complete late but would love an interview.

There are numerous interviews remaining. I received one recently and saw dates every MWF starting tomorrow all the way till mid/end of February (maybe till March I didn't scroll all the way). Good luck!

Anyone have any interview prep tips? Any things they are keen on that I should expect to be hit with?

I got the nicest, most reassuring email from Case: "...since February is our last month of interviewing, I wanted to assure that you will be interviewing for a potential spot in our class and not simply for a waitlist position, as you may see at other schools. Our Admissions Committee very judiciously accepts applicants throughout the year in order to make it equitable for those who are coming to interview later in the year (this means you!)."
Any other February interviewees get something like this? It made my day 10x better. So far I'm liking Case more and more every day 🙂

I was asked to teach something (literally anything) to my student interviewer. In the other interview I was told to talk about my background (where I was born, why medicine, academic background, etc) for ~15 mins. Hope this helps a little!

I loved everything on my interview day at Case. My faculty interviewer did some very straightforward role playing scenarios and basic questions about why medicine, why Case, why now (I'm old-ish), but overall was super warm and encouraging. My student interviewer and I totally hit it off, talked about football and basketball and our life histories, which were strikingly similar. You've probably heard this 100 times already, but really be yourself. So much like dating, you don't want them to fall in love with a façade and you want to find the right fit for you. Ask questions!

Sorry to hear that! Good luck with the rest of the interview cycle. Do you mind sharing when exactly in August you were complete? I am trying to figure out if they are going to bother to reject me or if somehow I am still even under review at this point.

II today.
GPA 3.7, Science GPA 3.87, MCAT 33
I feel like I don't really have a good chance of getting accepted, but I guess I'll go...

hello All, this morning I got a Case MSTP invite, so I came to this thread to see what everyone who has been there for interviews has to say about Case, i will look over all the old posts. I have never been to the area/school. I am looking at all the available info online about the school. Next week I have mstp interviews at two southern schools (wish I had taken a gap year to interview because of missing labs and my research) and was not expecting anymore invites. Any insights about Case would be welcome.
