2014-2015 Central Michigan University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Right? How do they decide who to pull off?

This is my understanding of the process. Typically panels vote with a panel of 16 members. However, the vote has to be above 9 members for the applicant to get in. I'm guessing that "priority waitlisted" is right around that 7-8 vote range. They were close, but just didn't quite make it. Under that logic, I'd say that standard waitlist are slightly below that voting range. Maybe <5 to just throw out a number. So when they pull, they'll pull from the priority group first.

Accepted via phone call!!!!!! Interviewed on 9/19. Congrats to everyone who got in and to everyone else-- best of luck!!! To those waiting to interview: good luck.. the MMI is a lot of fun and everyone is super duper nice. Feel free to PM me and I will calm your nerves!!! :soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:

Without breaking the non-disclosure agreements (lol), would you mind sharing your prep strategy for this MMI? A lot of people seemed to enjoy it, but I've heard horror stories about other schools' MMI (aka Michigan State <_<). Thanks 😀

Just my opinion, but I took MSU's MMI just last week and I didn't find it overly difficult. I thought it was fairly straightforward, and pretty fun!

yeah no horror story at msu either. i loved their mmi and thought it was a lot of fun

I guess I need to increase my sample size then... oops haha. I mean, besides potentially knowing current "hot topics", is there any good way to prepare? I'm good at thinking on my feet, but I just don't wanna miss anything and poop on this interview.

Hi, I've completed both CMU and MSU's MMI. I've also been accepted to both as well. I can give a little, general advice without breaking the disclosure agreement.

There is no 'real' prep strategy that you can do for the MMI. It's not about being wrong or right, its about how thoughtful you can be. Thats a point I'd like to drive home. How many different view points can you see? How can you argue in favor what may be against what you think? What benefits can you see? What about negative aspects? How many shoes can you put yourself in?

The MMI is about being thoughtful and any MMI review website will say that.

Good luck. Don't stress. Be yourself. Its not about being right or wrong, its about being thoughtful!

Awesome, thank you! And congrats!

Does anyone know if CMU is receptive to updates?
I contacted someone in admissions and asked if I could send an update letter regarding a major change in which graduate school I was attending for the year, and they were receptive to it. Wrote a short letter and submitted it via email ([email protected]).

Just got an ii, complete surprise!!! I've heard a lot of great things about this school and shadowed with one of their clinical professors. Snagged the Dec 5 date, session 2.

3.6, 24 MCAT, IS, URM.

Hey what time does the session 2 start? I'm wondering if I would be able to make it in time if I land at Saginaw airport around 8:30am...

Dang. It's too bad that other Dec. slots aren't available. I guess I will have to go in January then.

11:30-5:00 it said. Depending on where you're flying in as well as have to shower and change might not give you enough time.

I know someone who is an M1 currently so I arrived a couple days early. The drive is about an hour. I'd be more comfortable arriving the night before and staying in a hotel. That way you're well rested and ready for the day. I was completely done by 5 pm, and you'd be able to make a flight out that night.

Hey everyone! I'll be joining some of you for the December 5th session II interview. I am really looking forward to visiting this school as I have heard lots of great things about it so far. I am also looking forward to the MMI style interview since I have only had traditional panel interviews thus far.

Stats
Complete 7/27 although I had one missing LOR until 8/9, II 10/16
LizzyM 65, OOS, no MI ties

I absolutely loved this school on my interview date. Out of my interviews, CMU had the best overall interview experience, and their MMI is put together so well. Hope you have as good an experience as I had!

Is the interview format here strictly MMI or do they also have a separate interview to ask about personal experiences and other things related to your application?

It's MMI. It's just a really fun interview day and I was able to relate my personal experiences to stuff I talked about in each station.

Its strictly MMI. You get Ten of those stations and thats it.

I think he meant is one of the stations a traditional interview

Thank you! I knew they had the rotating stations from their website but just wanted to make sure that they didn't have any traditional one. Don't want to show up and get surprised with a traditional interview only expecting an MMI haha

Hey congratulations! When did you complete your secondaries if you don't mind me asking?

I was complete July 2nd. I submitted that thing within 24 hours of getting it and had complete silence since then.

When I interviewed on the 24th, they said the committee was meeting today (11/11) and we'll be hearing from them tomorrow! I might literally die from waiting. 🙁

When I interviewed on 10/10 they said that they didn't remember the date and they thought it was 11/7 so we would hear back 11/8. Then I realized 11/8 was a Saturday... Hopefully tomorrow!

You'll probably hear when I do. They said the committee was certainly meeting on 11/11.

Do you think they will be working on interview invites too? I am really hoping to hear from them, I've been hearing such good things about the program!

Good luck tomorrow everyone. Hopefully the calls will come sooner rather than later.

Does the committee only meet once a month?

At my interview they said they meet once a month. Of course their meeting the month of my interview was the following week after my interview so Everyone on my interview date had to wait for the November meeting.

When is the November meeting? I'm interviewing 11/21 and I wonder if I'll have to wait until December?

Waitlisted by email 🙁

Interviewed 10/24/14

Sorry to hear that guys. I interviewed on 10/24 and haven't gotten an email yet. I'm super nervous now.

If you dont mind me asking, are you guys IS or OOS? And what are your stats?

IS. 3.63c/3.57s/32 MCAT

You probably got accepted then, because they said accepted ones get a call later on.

I am from Canada. 34 MCAT, 3.87cgpa, and 3.96 sgpa.

dont know where I went wrong. Thought the interview went great. Maybe it's because i had no ties to the state.
Thanks for your response. You have great stats. I wonder what it is that they are looking for. I wasnt too confident coming out of the MMI's and my stats are not as good as yours and I am OOS as well with no ties, so I'll be super ecstatic if not getting an email means I got accepted. Not getting my hopes up though.

Your stats are good as well. With these things, we just dont know. Hope you guys get accepted off the waitlist though. In the meantime, I'm going to be checking my email every 2 seconds like a crazy person. 🙁
