2014-2015 Drexel University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anybody bern taken off the "hold" status or is it pretty much a death sentence?

For those who have interviewed, what time did your interview day end? I know online it says that the interview will be done no later than 2:30pm but I have also read that sometimes this interview can run behind and I am trying to book my flight.

Your feedback is appreciated! Thanks 🙂

My interview day ended at 2:30pm and that was because I stayed for the afternoon tour. Several applicants left even before that.

The "optional "afternoon tour is for people who have interview times that make them miss the morning tour.

My day ended at ~1:45pm because I did not stay for the afternoon tour.

The "Hold" status is not a "death sentence". I asked Dr. DePace about it today, he didn't want to give false hope because individuals might be disappointed if they are not taken off hold status. But he stated that they review students and some are taken off hold status for interviews later in the year. We had interviews til about late April last year.

For those who are worried about secondaries, they are caught up now. If your AMCAS has just been verified, it will probably take about 2 weeks for it to be sent to our school now and they'll send you a secondary. But all of the ones that have been received by Drexel have been given secondaries. They are still going over students for interview slots, so be patient with those. Emails in regards to II's are delayed sometimes, so check your portal everyday.

For the few people asking about scholarships (And those who are interested about it in the future): there are a good number of scholarships. Dr. DePace said those will be decided by a different committee later in the year, so they'll contact you about it if the student meets the criteria.

I've only seen maybe like 1-2 people run later than 2:30. Unfortunately I was one of those examples because I had a pretty late center city interview at like 1:30? 1:00?, and I had about an hour long interview. So I got back a little later than I wanted, but my flight was at 6, so I made it in time to the airport.

I pretty much see everyone leave at around 2ish after they have the Q&A with someone from the faculty. (I usually see Dr. Larson do it?).

Put on hold yesterday or today. Probably just going to withdraw my app since i'm accepted elsewhere.

How long did it take you guys to receive a secondary? I think my AMCAS primary was sent early to mid-August.

complete email received August 26. File still in review...seems like they probably will reject when they start sending them out...

I just got my secondary last week and I was AMCAS verified 7/25. I'd wait it out, don't bother them.. You'll get it eventually!

Ahhh, good to know. Thanks! I was a bit worried, since I've had issues with another school not receiving my primary.

Yikes. I thought they were notorious for taking forever to send secondaries, so I thought I'd wait it out, but I'll let them know now. Thanks!

Yea, if you haven't gotten it now, you should call. I was informed that they should be all caught up with secondaries at this point. If your AMCAS has been verified and sent out to schools for a month now you could call and ask.

can anyone who has interviewed here and spent the night at a bed and breakfast tell me about their experience at the bed and breakfast? and also which B and B you stayed at. i'm considering staying at one, but i'm not sure how it'll be

thanks!

Hi--anyone who has stayed with a student host-can you comment on the experience? I have family in the area and can stay with them, but was thinking of trying to stay with a student host as it might give me a better perspective on the school.

Staying with a student host def gives you a different perspective especially when you get a chance to meet even more students (i.e. Their friends). The honesty from the students is different from what you get on interview day (for good and bad). However, whenever I have stayed with a host I haven't slept as well because it's normally on a futon or couch. But the pros outweigh the cons for me.

Has anyone who has already interviewed gotten a final decision status change yet?

Thank you so much!

I don't think any MD schools can send out "accepts" until the 15th (or some date like that). I think the earliest anyone will hear from Drexel would be the end of this week.

I know, but since Drexel sends by snail mail, I was wondering if anyone had a status change since we're getting close to the 15th. According to last years thread people got status changes about a week before receiving their letters in the mail! Could be different this year though.

Oh, do you mean like around October? Or do you mean like in November and later on?

Admissions meet on Thursdays, so the people who get brought up to the committee have their status changed in the next few days and have their letters sent. Admissions has been meeting for a month so I don't think any computer statuses have been changed. I'm sure we would have seen someone pop up and say their status has changed by now since it seems almost everyone I've asked reads SDN.

If someone who has interviewed in the first 2-3 weeks has a change in their status, then Drexel probably does it. But it seems like the administration really tries to follow everything to the letter of the law. I'd guess if you interviewed really early on in the cycle, you'll probably get a status change this week and a letter next if you were brought up to admissions already. Don't quote me on it though! I'm sure people will start posting after the 15th once they've gotten a final decision though.

Then you can start camping out by the mailbox and scaring your mail person.
