when does emory interview until? i think the email said they offer invites up to february, so i'm hoping they're on that same schedule still

GREAT NEWS, @pre-med91 ! I can't peek into the minds of decision-makers, but I do believe that there can actually be some advantage in having interviewed more recently when those final choices are made. Not consciously, of course, but there is empirical evidence that, like primacy, recency affects which candidates for jobs are ultimately hired. So here's hoping that you upcoming interviewees have the impact you're wishing for!

I interviewed last week, and from what I've seen talking to friends in the M1/M2 classes as well as some of the random ones that will talk to you when they come for cookies, right now is the prime time where they fill their spots. While they have clearly already sent acceptances, it seems that at this time, they find the ones that actually end up matriculating. This is just speculation, but I would guess that the early interviewees/acceptees are the types to get accepted to multiple top 20 schools and have a hard decision in front of them, while the later acceptees tend to view Emory as their top choice. Either way, I don't think interviewing late is a disadvantage, it's definitely a lot better than not interviewing at all haha. There are definitely still spots in the class available till the very end, and whether you're in the first spot or the last spot, it won't matter when you start in July!

Totally agree. Many of the students I met at Emory had interviewed late in the cycle, and some even said that they thought it was a big advantage. Good luck to all!
 
Canadian here. Interview invite today.

~3.96 GPA, 35 MCAT 13/11/11.

Kinda nervous given how late it is in the season and my status. Emory is obviously a fantastic school... but they only accepted one international student last year?

Don't let the timing get in your head.

This is a lot like disease statistics....they are useful for predicting what happens among groups, but nearly useless for predicting individual success.

Be interesting. Be a good teammate. Ask good questions. Let your light shine.
 
For people who had the accidental "admissions" tab pop up on earlier admittance dates, around what time were you checking? A little neurotic at work
 
Emory, I don't mind that you left me until the very end. I am just thankful I get to interview at all. Be of stout heart, my fellow hopefuls. Apparently invites are still trickling out--I got mine today. (Along with two long-anticipated pre-II rejections!)

Congrats! Not to bombard you with questions but are you aware how many more dates are available on the interview scheduler?
 
Thanks for the kind wishes. I interviewed at Emory for an undergrad spot and was offered one, but ended up elsewhere and have always wondered whether my choice was the right one. (And whether Emory might give me another chance--so I am truly grateful.) @PocketAA , Emory did not send me a full schedule--just three dates from which to choose. Due to timing conflicts, I had to choose the latest. For me, that was February 23. Sorry I can't tell you if there were subsequent openings. @doctortobeee, I compulsively check the portal every day--oh, all right, it's more like five or six times daily. The notification did not appear there. It came by email. (Although I have not rechecked the portal since receiving the invite.) Wishing you all the same good fortune that has unaccountably been granted to me! And @GameOfBones, thank you for your generous offer to help me prepare. I will certainly avail myself of it!
 
Even though Emory is silent reject so not being rejected at this point doesn't carry the weight it does with other schools, I wouldn't assume anything until you hear for good. There's always a chance that interview slots may not be full or that people who are interviewing may back out of their slot. It's not over till it's over

On another note, have there really been no acceptances on this thread? I'm really hoping this just means they didn't send stuff out for whatever reason on Monday, although that's just me rationalizing
 
So there was a bomb scare here on Monday (turned out to be a camera from someone's art project) and it shut down the whole city for basically the entire afternoon. I expect that this might have delayed things a bit. Of course, I could just be feeding both of our optimism haha

After much thought and consideration, I just withdrew my app for an interview on 02/23. So know that there is AT LEAST one free slot, and it might go to any one of you! Good Luck to those still waiting! 🙂
Emory is an excellent, excellent school and I was very excited to receive the II, but I just cannot see myself attending over my other acceptances, so I decided to do everyone a favor and withdraw now!

Does anybody know when the second look weekend will take place and what kinds of events take place on a second look weekend?
Also, for current Emory students, when did you start looking at housing options? I was thinking about using the second look weekend to find housing and maybe possible roommates as well. Do most people find roommates from the M1 class, or do they have people in mind before moving to ATL? Or, do most people live alone?
I am thinking of looking at places between Emory and Midtown (somewhere east of Piedmont park maybe) but am not sure what kind of traffic that will put me in. I live in Chicago and drive into and out of the city for work, so I know what city traffic looks like, but people say Atlanta traffic is pretty bad. Are there other neighborhoods or complexes that many med students live in that I should be looking into? Do most people live in a house or apartment building/condo?
Is it difficult to park on campus? Do many people bike to class or do most drive? I've also heard there are shuttles that service the area. Do many people use them?
Sorry for the million questions... just trying to get a feel for how people live!

Currently an applicant, but I believe I can answer at least some of your questions in terms of living around Midtown and traffics stuff (I went to GT and had to go to Emory frequently for BME-related stuff/have lived in atl my whole life). So first off, Midtown and places just east of Midtown (such as Poncey Highlands and Virginia Highlands areas) are all great places to live. The places east of Midtown are going to be less expensive than Midtown itself, but Midtown is going to be a nicer area with more places to walk around and easy access to the park.

That being said, if you live in Midtown, the need for a car is slightly reduced, even when going to class. In midtown, you're pretty easy walking distance from the 10th street (midtown) marta station. From this station, there is a bus called the Tech Trolley which will take you onto tech campus (10 blocks from the Marta station). If you take this bus to the BME building, there is an Emory/GT shuttle that then runs from the BME building to the main hospital bus circle in order to accommodate all of the joint fac/staff. While I wouldn't personally rely on this regularly, I have had friends in the past who did research at Emory and used this shuttle every day without issues. The main problem with this system is weekend access (you'll probably have to take marta to Lindbergh and ride the 6 bus, I believe).

As far as driving yourself, which is pretty much a necessity in Atlanta regardless of where you live, the drive from midtown is about 10-12 minutes without traffic, but in the morning crunch time that drive can really swell. It's not one I would recommend to people who are new to the city. Once you know the area, it's more feasible as you will also hopefully learn some shortcuts and backroads and not have to use clifton and ponce the whole time (they're messes in the morning).

All that being said, I would probably suggest living close to Emory for your first year, then maybe branching out to other areas. Again, not a first year, just my advice on knowing Atlanta. For reference, if I matriculate at Emory, I will live in Midtown as I bought a place out there with my family during undergrad, but if I didn't have the place I would live closer to campus.

+1 to the above poster, but adding Decatur, N. Decatur, and Toco Hills areas as places to consider. Oakhurst, Kirkwood, Inman Park are great options, especially starting 3rd year. MARTA runs E/W btw Decatur and Grady and there's a free shuttle (CCTMA) from Decatur to Emory.

Lots of options. Sadly, a car is nearly necessary in Atlanta if you intend to grocery shop or socialize or anything else.
Some people do ride their bikes, but Atlanta drivers aren't super bike friendly.

Thanks so much for your responses! The only reason I am thinking near Midtown (besides night life) is that my boyfriend is probably going to be working in Midtown and we're trying to be close in proximity to both Emory and his work. We both have cars and will both be bringing cars to ATL, but if I could avoid traffic that would be ideal. (I sit in 45 minutes worth of traffic both ways in Chicago now.) If I could find a place near Emory that would make getting to Midtown through public transit fairly easy that would also be amazing. Do most people rent houses and have multiple med students in one house, or do people rent a condo/apartment in a building/complex?

Can anyone comment on how much weight Emory places on the interview? I came away feeling that I hadn't represented myself as well as at other interviews…hoping that it didn't ruin my chances!
 
They are looking for a pretty well rounded, easy to talk to person. The one-on-one interviews may not even touch on anything about you (mine didn't at all). So unless you were out right rude (and Im guessing that wasn't it), don't sweat it.

Could you tell us a little bit about your experience in Atlanta and how you like living there? Emory is by far my favorite school I've been accepted to, but my other acceptances are in cities I know better and have a better support network in.

Did everyone who got accepted already have that tab appear before the letter arrived?
 
I should add that there is a caveat on the tab home page that says it's only valid for people who receive an official letter in the mail. I guess I'll be waiting a few more days for the mail to confirm the admissions tab. Thanks @quietninja72 ! Hopefully you get some good news in the mail soon 🙂

I just noticed that as well - has anyone seen that tab then not actually gotten an offer that week? I already called my family and everything so that would be pretty crushing...
