2014-2015 Emory University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just called the admissions office to confirm, and while they said it was possible to see that tab before acceptance, mine was indeed real!!! it's my first acceptance of the season, I'm still in disbelief. Even though she said it wasn't a guarantee I imagine that tab almost always means you've really been accepted. congratulations to my fellow acceptees and good luck to everyone else!

Admissions offer tab appeared today! Interviewed at the end of October (MD/PhD), so very excited for this good news despite the wait!
@ladyterp , congratulations! I interviewed just today, so still have some waiting to do. . . .

Nobody who has posted had the tab without the acceptance. I think you can be 99.9% sure you're in if you have the tab!
It sounds like he/she is asking the other way around - if it's possible your acceptance is in the mail if you don't have that tab on your portal. I don't know of it for a fact, but it definitely seems plausible - it's not over until the end of the week (and even then, there's one more date to receive acceptances.)

Oh gotcha. I honestly think it doesn't bode well for this round, but there's always the next one. I was accepted on a later round (one round after the one my interview day was supposed to hear back on.)

Welp... accepted to the MA Bioethics program today! But still no Emory MD interview... :/ am I out of luck at this point?

I would assume so.

Well, I just happened to see via their portal that they send II through late Feb-- so I'm going to stay positive for the last week, and not assume 🙂

I think alot of schools do that because of last minute cancellations, but in reality what they are really saying is that they interview till end of feb.

Lol, stop trying to kill my optimism! I get your point, but I was hoping to hear from some others here who might have had personal experience with late Feb II or the MA dual program.

Sorry, I was just putting my personal view and reasoning out there. And I could certainly be incorrect.

Could you tell us a little bit about your experience in Atlanta and how you like living there? Emory is by far my favorite school I've been accepted to, but my other acceptances are in cities I know better and have a better support network in.

Atlanta is an amazing city! I couldn't be happier with my choice. The first time I had ever been to Atlanta was on my interview and I was equally nervous about picking it over a school much closer to home. The city has a ton of smaller neighborhoods that all have different feels, so you can really find where you think you would like to live. Its also a great place to be a med student because of Grady and the patient population. Plus, the people at Emory are incredible, admissions does a great job of building an awesome class.

Well. . .maybe soon? (When the Saints go marchin' in. . .)

Emory is no longer awarding interviews! I'm definitely okay with it. Well, at least I get to finish up undergrad here. Good luck to everyone in the cycle still waiting. Don't lose faith 🙂

Hey! Does Emory have a second look day?
Yes! There was one at the end of April last year, but I do think it was limited to 25 or so students. You'll receive an email with the info. There's also a housing weekend in early June that you should get info about closer to then.

Huh - limited how? Is it first come first serve or do they select 25 students?

If I recall... you just kinda shadow students as they go to class, and they don't have enough room for all admitted students in the lecture halls... so it's limited? that was the impression I got on my interview day.

Yep - should have been more clear, it's just the first 25 people who respond. No special selection process or anything.

Emory never interviewed me to notify me that they're not awarding interviews anymore... Maybe I'm not even worth a couple electrons for a rejection letter? 🙁

EDIT - Reject Letter rec'd. Good luck to those still in the running.

What time has the tab been showing up on the portal for students who have been admitted?

Mine was there by Monday around 4, but that was the first time I had checked. The letter was dated the previous Friday, so I have no idea at what point between then they actually update the portal.

I decided to go to Emory Revisited if I can find a way to cover my plane ticket there. I am realizing that second looks will help me make this decision and stop being so confused.

Wait, is Emory revisited different than Revisit weekend? I am a little confused. On their website they talk about a revisit weekend in mid april where travel is reimbursed?

@teefero I think Emory revisited is specifically for accepted URM applicants. I know the MD/PhD revisit is mid-April, and that travel was covered, but idk of other Emory MD revisits with travel reimbursement.

anyone have any portal updates??! my stomach is doing flips, and it's not just because I'm having a springtime ice cream craving.

Nothing here, still waiting. Luckily I'm flying today (ironically in Atl for a connection) so being in the air without wifi has helped stop my neurotic login attempts. Though I won't say that I haven't thought about purchasing the in flight wifi...

roger that. was going to try to resist logging in but couldn't help myself, and zilch

not yet .... eeeek.. final acceptances go out today. This is going to be a long week - I would give anything to go here!!!! good luck everyone!

Are we sure that the portal will say something today? or is there hope waiting for the mail?

Not getting my hopes up either -- assuming the worst at this point.
No the portals are not supposed to change at all until you receive an acceptance by mail. But there have been instances where students have seen the statuses on their portals change before they received the actual letter in the mail that is why people are looking. The portals probably won't change (do not worry) - we will have to wait for the snail mail. -_-

Thank you very much! I was told today that the Second Look Weekend program is the 24th so I will not be able to go to that as it is the same weekend as Georgetown!

Have they sent out official invites for the second look day or did you get this information somewhere else?

Hi, have any admitted students dealt with financial aid yet? I saw that the deadline was March 1st, and I've been stuck on collegeboard IDOC limbo. I thought it was weird that we haven't received any email about it though. Any ideas on how being late might affect the financial aid offer?

You just get your financial aid package later. No guarantees that you get it by the April 30th deadline
