2014-2015 Emory University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi, have any admitted students dealt with financial aid yet? I saw that the deadline was March 1st, and I've been stuck on collegeboard IDOC limbo. I thought it was weird that we haven't received any email about it though. Any ideas on how being late might affect the financial aid offer?

You just get your financial aid package later. No guarantees that you get it by the April 30th deadline

They also mentioned that there will be more institutional aid available the earlier you apply, but I'm not sure that it makes a big difference other than in timing.

Have any admitted students received the vaccination form we need to have filled out?

Have they sent out official invites for the second look day or did you get this information somewhere else?
No not official! An email from the woman who was putting on the Revisit weekend when I was asking her questions!

No portal update either.... noooooooooooooooo.... :'(((

Hoping that they update the portal on differential schedules based upon how long it would take the letter to reach certain locations.
Haven't been accepted anywhere yet... Would really like to go somewhere....

it really is silly.. if they are going to update the portals anyways why don't they just send e-mails instead of making us wait until we do not receive a letter to realize we didn't get in... this process is so painful ha

Dunno if any previously accepted students can confirm that they received later portal updates depending on if they lived in the immediate Atlanta/Georgia area or if they lived on the west coast.
The letter would take around five or six days to reach me in the west...

I'm on the west coast, received portal update yesterday, no letter in the mail yet

thanks for letting us know...and congrats!! arrrrrghhhhh :'(

I haven't been accepted yet, but just received an email saying that my financial aid app was received and that I've been assigned a financial aid advisor to aid me throughout my student experience…has this happened to anyone else?

I also just got this email and have not been accepted. Did you list emory on your FAFSA like they asked you to do at the interview? I think that's probably why we got this email, and that it's most likely unrelated to admission status.

What is the portal update everyone is talking about?

The portal update refers to how there's apparently an admissions tab that pops up that gives away that an individual is accepted to the medical school before the actual physical letter appears in the mail.

Yes, my admission news was delivered by the portal. The US Postal Service has not yet delivered me a paper document confirming that I am in.

I was accepted back in November and haven't receieved this email. Anyone not receieve this email yet? Emorys financial aid office haven't been too responsive for me. Thank you!

I just got the email, too. Emoryyyy why ya gotta rub salt in the wound??? It is because we listed them on our fasfa I think.

I think they just send it to everyone who interviewed...I didn't fill out FAFSA but I got the email

Bummer 🙁

I'm a current student at Emory and I noticed that my entire student portal has signs of my med school app. Which it never had until today.

I never submitted a FAFSA....

I'm assuming you all already saw this, but in case you didn't, I got an email this afternoon saying: The Office of Financial Aid will process financial aid applications for all active applicants, including accepted and non-accepted applicants. Notifications from the Office of Financial Aid are in no way associated with an Admissions decision.

Well soon you might be a former student. They could Duke your app and forget that you even existed in the first place. I'd tread carefully if I were you.

I thought poster was saying that they were currently a med student at emory. Might have been an undergrad student. I was joking all the same.

No i'm just honestly confused... i think i missed something... lol

I meant to say current med student at emory.

Basically duke had some stuff recently where they just totally effed up all notifications. I was joking that the poster –whom I thought was a current med student– might suddenly find that they're no longer a student if emory pulls a duke. It was a stupid joke. I'll just shut up now.

Nooooo don't shut up

Just got an email about second look! It's the weekend of April 24, but they say not to buy plane tickets yet because there's very limited space - I wonder if it'll be just 25 people as was mentioned earlier in this thread about past years.
Housing weekend for those who have already decided on Emory is June 5-6!

Dear Emory,

Please, for the love of goodness, stop sending me financial aid e-mails when not accompanied by an acceptance. It would be one thing to send them earlier in the season, but to send them after we all know final acceptances have gone out is kind of cruel.

hahahahhaha I just grunted this same exact thing out loud to my coworkers......

Wait list email at 4:16 pm EST, from last year's thread, it sounds like they don't really do post II rejection though

Same, and it's interesting to hear that.

Edit: Now that I've read it, the wording of the alternate offer email seems to confirm this.

silence from Emory... has anyone received anything? I guess they are waiting until the very last day to send out the wait list/rejection emails. They said by the end of March aka tomorrow

I'm confused...so people did get alternate emails today? What are you talking about?

anyone know how many people are wait listed here though?? Is anyone even rejected post II?
