When were you complete?

Eventful day at Hofstra! For those of you in the "waiting for an acceptance post-interview" camp, i just looked at last years thread and noticed that october interviewees gained acceptance in november or december on a single day each month, so all hope is not lost. After that, as far as I could see, early interviewees were waitlisted or rejected.

I also read something about interviewers needing to be together to make a decision so that may be part of the delay...

Damn. Out of 25 schools, I've had four rejections so far, including my top two choices. This was one of them 🙁 Goodbye, Hofstra.

OOS, LizzyM 73, complete in July. Peace out and good luck!

Rejected as well. Was really hoping for a shot here 🙁. Goodluck to everyone!

Joining the pre-interview rejection party over here! LizzyM < 70. Complete sometime in August I think?

Pre-II rejection, complete 08/18. Glad it wasn't a silent rejection, though, so thanks, Hofstra (I GUESS...?!).

So it looks like schools are starting to move at this point. They have most of the primaries and secondaries in so they can evaluate the applying class as a whole now. Looks like there's going to be an end to the silence for many of us 'grey area' applicants at some places.

Sorry to hear that you guys were rejected. Some of the stats of people that were rejected were really good. Hoping you guys have good luck at other institutions!

Re: People that interviewed in November, did they say we'd hear in december sometime? About a month or so turn around?

That was a very brief and to the point rejection email.

What did it say?

Re: People that interviewed in November, did they say we'd hear in december sometime? About a month or so turn around?

When I was there last week they said "possibly" first week december. But more likely mid December.

All I remember them saying was "that's a great question. I'm not going to answer it."

I think they did that for the 'what % of interviewees get accepted' and then the follow up 'how many people do you interview' questions. People were trying to ask different questions to finish the equation off. I was biting my tongue to quit laughing. Did they think he was an idiot and would fall for that? It was pretty hilarious.

I. Was. So. Close. To. Chortling.

I wouldn't realistically expect anything until January though for November interviewees

I interviewed late October, and when someone asked that question, they told us not to expect anything until early December. Checking out last year's thread, it seems like if you're a phenomenal applicant, they may accept you within a week. If you're a good fit, but just an okay applicant, you might be in limbo for a few months.

See what i said above. I think theres plenty of opportunity to be accepted before the new year for early applicants. After that, it looks a bit grim for us fall interviewees.

+11 rejected today. I guess it was to be expected, given how heavily they weight the MCAT.

Can any current students (or if you've interviewed and they discussed this) answer a couple questions for me?
1) This may be a silly question, but are there any lecture style classes? I've read about the structure lab, PEARLS, and ICE, but I haven't been able to find information on whether this is all in addition to a typical lecture or if it completely replaces it? If there are lectures--are they mandatory? If not mandatory, do most students attend them?
2) For the EMT certification--are students required to work/volunteer a certain number of hours/semester as an EMT? Is that just for the first 100 weeks portion of the curriculum?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm not sure about the EMT certification part, but at the interview, we got to see what a sample week is like at Hofstra. There are two hours of "large group discussion," (which are essentially lectures) per week.

I'm very sorry to hear about the rejection, but the second part of your sentence gives me pause. I just want to put it out there for any future applicants that it is absolutely possible to get into Hofstra with a lower MCAT. In fact, at interview day they EXPLICITLY stated that they know the MCAT is a flawed predictor of STEP scores, and that they have found that people with lower MCAT scores that go to Hofstra score very well on their boards.

For anyone reading this in the future: don't be discouraged, and apply if you think you are a good fit for the school!

I agree. They pre-interview rejected my classmate who has really similar stats to me, but has a 38 on his MCAT. They're primarily looking for self-motivated individuals who can thrive in the environment they've created.

Hello everyone, can anyone comment on the format of the interviews here? Are they both open file? Thanks!

One was totally open file, another was open file minus transcript.

Does anyone know when interviews are being scheduled for at this point? How late does Hofstra interview?

I just went on the portal a few days ago to move my 1/28 interview. There were new openings in a few days throughout January.

Are you on their waitlist? They moved me WAYYY up for interview as I was on the WL and spots opened up. They gave me a 2 week window, which is pretty good.

I know you're in CA, but maybe that would let you get bumped to a spot in december?

This probably is meaningless since Hofstra's algorithm has no doubt changed significantly since their class 2 years ago, but according to MSAR:

5568 applied and 727 interviewed for the class that had 80 students in it. I'd guess they had to admit atleast 3x their class size in that cohort, if not more. Being a new school means, imho, that people are more likely to go elsewhere.

Yup, I think they mentioned on my interview day that they accept 3-4 people for every 1 spot. I'm also assuming this is because they're newer but apparently it's also fairly typical of most schools (except for much higher tier I would imagine)
