2014-2015 Hofstra University Application Thread

Yeah, may also have a problem with that one. What happens to your aid if you miss these deadlines?
I submitted with estimates already, but hofstra only accepts your FAFSA as complete if you've already filed your taxes and had the FAFSA autofill your data from the irs website. I was pretty upset I hadn't known this because you can only autofill your data 3-4 weeks after filing your taxes. So yes I will be missing their deadline. They told me they'll consider me on "a rolling basis" if I submit after the 20th, they just can no longer guarantee aid I guess. I was upset since I thought estimates would be acceptable! I couldn't even have filed 3-4 weeks ago, I was still waiting on some bank statements.

Can you send them copies of your tax statements? Maybe it's worth trying.

If I submit my FAFSA with typed-in data, can I go back and correct it with into from the Data Retrieval Tool once it's been processed? I want to submit for other schools, namely the one I got into. I haven't heard back from Hofstra yet.

I tried to submit my own taxes ASAP once I heard about Hofstra's weird FAFSA requirement, but there was a snafu with the crappy free efile system I used, and they didn't actually get filed until the beginning of March when I checked back to see why my bank account balance hadn't changed.

I might get my own info through the Data Retrieval Tool by 3/20, but definitely not my parents.' Getting them to file their taxes before April 15th was a hassle while I was in college - asking them to file before March 1st is way too much. 😛

Could any current student comment on average Step 1 scores so far?

I answered it before, but I can answer it again. The inaugural class scored average Step 1 score of 235. Our class scored 238 with 100% pass rate.

You seriously HAVE to auto-fill it? I've filed my taxes and have the exact numbers, but I can't retrieve it from the IRS tool yet .... that is just fantastic ....

Yeah, I'm in the same boat.. If anyone has some information on this, or an alternative to doing the data retrieval tool, it'd be appreciated.

I'm just waiting for their mid-March notification day... I thought my interview went really well and loved the school, but I interviewed in October so I'm not exactly optimistic lol

Same here. Interviewed in December. So much false hope when you heard "this school would be extremely lucky to have you" from an interviewer....four months ago. :wtf:

I interviewed in November and it's been silence since. I had one great interview and one tough interview. If my math is correct, those interviews should cancel each other out and result in a waitlist.

So I found out that Hofstra can give you a preliminary aid package without all of the 2014 tax stuff. You need your parents 2012,2013 tax return transcripts from IRS website, the FAFSA, the Need Access w/ info from your parents 2013 taxes, and copies of your 2014 W2s. So we can get an idea of what our aid will be at least.

ugh im in love with this school. really hoping for an acceptance! one interview was my best yet, the other was decent. interviewed right around feb 19th..

Just called the admissions office an hour ago.

1.) Anyone who hasn't heard back yet won't hear back this week. All decisions will be given out by the end of March now, not mid-March as was once presumed.
2.) If you haven't heard back post-interview and it's been over 4 weeks, there is still some hope of receiving an acceptance (according to the woman I talked to). I'm driving myself nuts because I really love Hofstra and I interviewed back in early December.
3.) Update letters are rarely considered post-interview. So if you send a LoI or activities, it most likely won't have an effect.

Mannnnnn. It's been 13 weeks since my interview. Getting really discouraged after hoping for an acceptance for so long. I guess they may still give out acceptances to those of us who are still waiting over a month or two now.

Thank you for doing this!! I interviewed end of January and dont have too much hope at this point for an outright acceptance.

I'm not sure how much I would trust #3. The Dean here told us on my interview day that they do like letter of intents.

Thank you for calling! Any chance you know about for those of us who interviewed only a short time ago?

I think LOIs are more relevant once you've been put on waitlist rather than after you've been reviewed post-interview.

Thanks as well for doing this! I was also early December and your putting it into weeks just makes it feel so much further away. But once we get that acceptance email on a random March 25th afternoon we'll crap ourselves with happyness.

edit: I'm trying to get into medical school and I still fail at the you're/your test *sigh*

On my interview day, they indicated that letters of intent were welcome any time. If my theory is correct and all wait list notifications are all coming out in one big batch at the end of this month then waiting until then doesn't seem like the best idea to me.

@Hanguk thank you for calling. I'm actually glad to hear that they bumped the notification date because I would be antsy all next week otherwise. Though given I interviewed at around the same time @Fishier3000 (Congrats! btw) and have heard nothing I think I know where I will be ending up. It's too bad because I really liked the different approach to medicine that Hofstra took with the essay tests and EMT training.

Good luck to everybody who is still waiting. Fingers still crossed here.

That's really relieving to know. I'm glad they told your group that LOI are welcome and so I hope mine can make a difference. I'm hoping for a waitlist at this point.

So do you know if rejections AND waitlists come out at the same time? Or if you're rejected you would know by now?

And no problem guys, glad I could help out. I know many of us are afraid to pester the admissions office but I figured since they have 0 say in the final decision, why not pester them as much as I want? 😛

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I don't recall anyone posting on this thread that they had gone to an interview and then received a rejection this year. All the rejection notices I saw were pre-II.

I don't KNOW anything, but based on how they said things at interview day and what people have said on this forum both this year and last, I believe everything will all come out at the same time.

Rejected just now. IS. Lizzy M ~70. Interviewed mid January. Best of luck to the rest of you!

Rejected as well. Interviewed mid-February and out of state. I'm actually really glad that we didn't have to wait until the end of the month to find out.

Good luck to everyone else still waiting to hear news!

Rejected post interview too. Interviewed early Jan. Weird, it was the best interview I had.

...or so I thought hahah.

Yeah, I keep going over the day trying to figure out what the heck I did wrong. I can think of a few things that were not great, but I felt like I had a solid chance. Oh well, I have an acceptance somewhere, and an interview at a place I would prefer to attend, and am on the waitlist at my top choice. Not the end of the world.

I do feel annoyed on behalf of people who have been waiting for months only to be rejected. Does your interviewer even remember who you are at that point?

Joining the post-interview rejection train. And on my birthday! Thanks Hofstra!

Good luck to everyone else!

Post-interview rejection…which is really surreal to me since this was the one place I was certain that I made a really positive impression on my interviewers.

Rejected also post-interview. Try not to think about it too much. One of my interviews did not go well, the other went perfectly. A lot of my fellow interviewees from my day commented the same thing, which I thought was interesting.

Rejected. Interviewed mid-Feb. One great interview and one not so good one.

I felt the same way where I had one really chill interviewer that I thought I clicked with and one where I just couldn't keep a conversation going.

Maybe they do a good cop bad cop thing?

Same exact experience! Havent heard back yet, though

(how I feel surviving today)

Good luck to everyone still in the running! Looks like acceptances usually go out on Wednesdays.
