2014-2015 Howard University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
so can we safely assume that they have been releasing applications? hoping for good news !!

I have been trying to reach the admissions office by calling their number: 1-202-806-6279. I must have tried 30 times in the past 2 weeks and no answer. I wouldn't be surprised if that number was discontinued.

Any help in contacting the admissions office if you do not live in Washington DC or the US? Thanks!

Have you tried e-mailing them? I've e-mailed them before and they usually got back to me within two days if not the very same day. Good luck!

I don't think they have given any ii since early December. A lot of us who submitted late secondaries are awaiting a response. They should be reviewing applications soon and ii should follow. If i had to guess I'd say early to mid February. What are you stats? 3.0 GPA 25 MCAT here!
Sorry replying so late! Have you heard anything yet? I haven't, sadly. Ms. Walk emailed me two weeks ago asking for my fall grades in my grad program. Haven't heard from her since. My stats are 3.0, 29; Not UR. :/ Crossing my fingers still!

What 30 day email? still waiting .. I was told by Mr. trotten I've been " reviewed"
I'm kinda in the same boat. I was told that I passed their preliminary phase since November. They told me, prior sending an update letter and fall grades, that my application has been reviewed and considerd for an interview. So I think they keep reviewing and reviewing same application... I would like to know too the outcome of this...

It was when I called them early January. They have a "preliminary phase" which is to filter applicants using their own criteria I suppose.

Did you write your email pre or post interview?

Is it recommended to email if one did not get a 30 day confirmation of being reviewed?

Wait... What is the 30 days email? I have never received one since complete in mid october... I sent a letter of intend and did not even receive a receipt email. I tried calling the office numerous time...

what does that 30 days letter say exactly??Do we think it was intentionally sent to some specific applicants?
Btw, has anyone received an emil like this the pas week or so?:
Dear applicant,

Thank You for your interest in Howard University’s College of Medicine. We appreciate your patience through yet another lengthy admissions cycle. Each year, the Admissions staff is faced with the challenging task of selecting a quality incoming class of just over 100 from an applicant pool of thousands of talented students. We are working tirelessly and diligently to select the individuals we feel will best embody, not only Howard University’s tradition of excellence, but ultimately will personify the College of Medicine’s mission once they graduate. As you may know, our mission is to produce competent, compassionate.......

It goes like this or so : (copied from soneone who got it)

]Thank you for your interest in Howard University College of Medicine.

This acknowledgement email means that all of your documents have been received and a preliminary review has taken place. We will be using the AMCAS database to further process your application. Please do not look for use apply.howard.edu. That site is for internal office use only.

Howard will send a blast update email in March. Final (reject) emails will begin to be sent in March (if not earlier) and will continue through June as we release applicants.

Yeah, I did send in some updates..the rest of the email basically talks about the importance of selecting students who are willing to serve the under-served and how it's such a long process....and that updates will be emailed as soon as anything changes...

Great, if you don't mind me asking when did you send your updates? I sent them my transcript which they confirmed its receipt and a letter of update about extracurricular activities and volunteering couple weeks ago. but haven't heard back anything yet.

I sent in my updates about 10 days ago and the email was sent to me about 9 days ago (basically the following day). I think we all just got wait and hope we get some ii soon. Cheers....

howard rocks , if only II would come 🙁

Is it true we have to wait till March before we can hope for an II?

For those accepted or that have interviewed, what time did the interview started and what time it ended ?

I believe we started around 8 and finished around 2:45. Definitely a long but very informative day!

I got the secondary acknowledgment e-mail late October, but the message was quite different than the one shown above.

It talks about the "SR" code meaning that the secondary application has been received:

SECONDARY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT - PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL.

Thank you for your interest in Howard University College of Medicine.

You may go on the Apply.medicine.howard website and see that your secondary has been received. The code "SR" indicates that. we are now able to see/review your secondary. A code of "SR" means that both your secondary and letters of recommendation are visible and your application is complete. There will be no other entries on apply.howard website after this designation. However, we assure you that your application is being reviewed.

We will send interim emails in December and again in March. Final emails will begin to be sent in March (if not earlier) and will continue through June as we release applicants.

OTHER INFORMATION:

Interviews are by invitation only and are sent via EMAIL ONLY.

Invitations will be issued between September until mid-March.

Most interviews will be completed by the end of April.

Final (reject) letters are not emailed until the END of the admissions cycle starting March 15 and continuing until June.

REMINDERS:

Keep your spam-blockers low and check your junk mail files regularly.

Do not send transcripts unless requested by the HUCM Admissions Office. They will be shred.

All letters of recommendation to should be sent to AMCAS.

Maybe they were using the SR thing etc early in cycle when they had too many applications to screen, and the pre-screen was slower, did you get an interview ?

maybe, I'm still waiting. Even though, the office of admissions said the committee reviewed my application. I know it already passed their initial screening (preliminary phase), but I don't know what's going on with the wait... 🙁

I still haven't gotten an interview invite! I sent the email after I was asked about my fall grades.

their "application satus" website aka the secondary has been down throughout the day. I know they don't change anything in it, but can't access it.

Did you actually talk to someone from the admissions office who told you that your application had been reviewed and passed their initial screening. I am confused by their emails and all the discussions going on on this thread. Thanks in advance for clarifying.

Hey, yes. I called three times. the first time I talked to Ms Walk in late November/early December can't recall exactly stating that I passed the initial screening. The second time was in January to see if there is anything new, but it was a male who also told me that I passed their "preliminary screening" and my application is considered for an interview. I called a third time to make sure if they received my transcript and letter of update. Ms Walk said to just copy and paste it to her e-mail which I did but never gotten a confirmation about it. However, I got an acknowledgment e-mail about the fall grades that I sent to them. I feel like i'm in a limbo. I hope this helps you a bit.

hi @thenewed !Thanks for the clarification, I will also try and give them a call to see if I can get anyone to tell me anything about my apps!

Hey guys, have any of you filled out the FAFSA for Howard yet?

Just a quick question: since we have all applied for the 2015 entering class, does that mean we use the 2015-2016 FAFSA application, or do we use the 2014-2015 one?
