2014-2015 Howard University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
1-on-1 with a faculty member. My interview was pretty low-stress. Be prepared to discuss just about anything on your application, especially any activities that show a commitment to the underserved. Best of luck!

Thank you. Did they ask the usual why medicine? Or why Howard..

I was asked both, which is pretty standard for most interviews. You should also be prepared to answer why you might attend HUCM over other schools you've applied to

Hey Guys, I interviewed on Jan. 7th and I got that "This is to let you know that your application/folder is out of committee. A decision has been made.
We will email you when the decision letter has been signed by the Associate Dean and mailed on or about MARCH 1......" email on like February 20th. Im freaking out waiting cuz its like the 5th of march now and i haven't heard anything. Anybody else get this email? is it a good sign? I'm sooo stressed lol

Yea I got that same email on the 20th and received another email on the 27th saying the letter was signed. It's a good sign that they email you advising you to wait and call till the letter is signed, because Ive heard they don't do rejections over the phone. There are probably quite a few letters that need to be signed, so I wouldn't worry too much about not receiving a response yet. But check your spam folder in case lol

Ok cool i just went back and stalked ur account lol and saw you interviewed in early December. I feel a little more calm now, i wonder if they send that email to people who have been rejected or wait listed as well tho. I just don't want to get rejected, ill take a waitlist if i have to cuz I heard that about 25% of the kids that get in dont go and that lets in a lot of waitlist kids. This wait is terrible, my grades are so bad too I'm lucky to even be in this position lol

Not yet but still hopeful! I sent an email inquiry today though, complete since end of November

Do they ever email you back? They never have replied to me on e-mail 🙁 or phone calls.

I was complete in October, tried multiple times to call the office with no success (till today I have not been able to), sent a letter of interest (and cc'ed Ms. Walk) with no aknowledgment email from them, called and emailed again, and a month letter sent another email to Ms Walk who then replied. Sigh...So yeah... I feel you!

I got an II too... available dates were the 24th, 25th and 31st. I was complete since mid October.
Thank you Jesus there is still hope!!!
Can you guys share your stats? I'm still waiting for an II.

Has anyone who interviewed in January or February heard back?

They should send all rejection emails at this point so people don't cling to false hopes !! They said they would send no selected for interview emails in February but they never did !!!!!

I think/ hope things move a lot faster after the March 15 deadline. The class is probably full now and they are maybe waiting for people to drop out so they can offer more seats.

I feel like email is the best way to contact them but it's Howard they are gonna move a little slow that's just how it works. I heard back yesterday and I got wait listed, kinda sucks but I guess it is what it is. Good luck guys

Seat next to me this fall 🙂

When I called past Friday on the 27th, ( and yes, they do respond to phone calls sometimes), they kept saying that they will keep interviewing until April. It is frustrating when they say: there is no change in your application, we will e-mail if you are invited for an interview". I know they don't exceed 300 interviewees per cycle.

3.1 undergrad GPa 3.5 Grad GPA. Science gpas about the same. Avg MCAT and plenty of ECs. I was complete in September. I sent a letter of interest on Monday and called the same day to make sure they received it. I ended up speaking to Ms Walk when I called. I guess that helped 🙂

I got an ii on Tuesday. The available dates were the 24th, 25th and the 31st. There were only 3 or 4 spots for the 24th and 25th though

How did you know the number of spots left

@chemy it was stated in the email. But they ALSO said that the 31st was OPEN! And the suggested dates were only in March. We still got April.
I am emphasizing this so you don't think that there are only 3 or 4 interviews spots left.

No interview invite yet that's how I know !!

Is March 7 no interview means rejection by now 🙁 🙁 🙁

What March 15 deadline?

March 15th is when all school must have given out acceptances at least equal to the number of seats available for the incoming class.

Hey Yall! First time poster! For those who have interviewed, did they ask you question only on your secondary app or AMCAS too?

Hey Yall! First time poster! For those who have interviewed, did they ask you question only on your secondary app or AMCAS too?
From general consensus they asked from both, you should be ready to answer any question on your application. I interview tomorrow.

I used the 2015-2016 one since that is the academic year the financial aid will apply to.

Hey! In the interview did they focus on your secondary app , AMCAS or both?

Thanks! Good luck on your interview! 🙂

Please keep the group updated on how it goes!
