2014-2015 Howard University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Nope, haven't heard anything yet. I think we may be waiting for more seats to open up.

Nothing yet! but still praying 🙂 Are you post or pre-interview?

Post! I got my out-of-committee letter last week on Tuesday, so I've been really anxious lately cause an earlier post on this thread said the turn-around was about a week or so. I'll just keep praying and being patient, though haha. What about you?

What's the usual turn around time from interview date to out of committee? Or is it kinda random at this point of the process?

Ms. Walk said anything over 30 days and you should call into the office, but they're pretty busy this cycle with all the extra applications so it really does vary. Personally it took me about 7 weeks before I heard back.

long time lurker, but first time poster. I was told that I was accepted, but due to the class being full it is an acceptance on hold. Then it later states that as spaces open up, they will choose from the best applicants of the accept pool and alternate pool. So is this no different than a waitlist?

I was told the same thing. I don't think it's the same as the wait list because they said they also have "alternates" and I think that's technically the wait list but I'm not 100% sure

Ok so update, I spoke with Ms. Walk and she said basically all accepted on hold and alternates are going back in to pool to be reevaluated so they can choose the best from the pool. So I think it kinda means we're all on be wait list

Thanks for the update guys! I'm also on the wait list. Ms. Walk just sent an email out pretty much saying what ChristinaMD said due to receiving many questions.

Hey, I am a 3rd year student at HUCM and i hope you all are having a good interview cycle. I usually try to introduce myself to interviewees whenever i see them during my lunch break. For those of you who have already interviewed, i hope it went well, and for those that have yet to interview, keep the faith. A lot of later interviewees are my current classmates. I know its late in the cycle but if any of you have questions you can PM me.

Chemy, sorry to hear you got rejected. Don't stop believing in yourself. I applied to HUCM and got waitlisted for half the year and then rejected. I reapplied the following year and got in. So sometimes you just have to keep on trying and you will eventually make it. Getting into med school is no easy task but if becoming a doctor is truly what you want, you just have to reassess and try again.

Just received email from HUCM. Told I was an alternate (wait list). I'm going to keep working and praying. So very nervous.

have you ever wanted so bad? After attending the interview I was so encouraged from the students I net. I can see myself attending Howard. please God help me.

I was placed on the alternate list as well. Good luck to everyone on the waiting list and those of you still awaiting a post-interview decision.

For any of the class of 2019 looking to live in The Blairs in Silver Spring if you say I referred you when you sign your lease you get a month off your rent. So message me if you are interested. I'm in the class of 2018 and really enjoy it here.

I sent you a pm.

Hi Everyone!

My family friend is looking for a HUCM student to be his roommate. He wants to stay in DC near Howard's campus. If anyone else is looking for a roommate PM me and I can connect you with him.

Thanks!

Hi everyone, just a quick question, which school would you pick if you had a choice between Meharry or Howard?

I interviewed at all three of the HBCUs, and I'd have to say that my order would be Morehouse >> Meharry > Howard. Out of all three, Howard was the most disorganized, and according to the students I spoke with, professors tend to play favorites. This is just MY opinion though so take it with a grain of salt. Meharry students also get lots of research and training opportunities with nearby Vanderbilt medical school, which is a plus. They have some sort of partnership. Howard is also more expensive in terms of living, as its in DC. Just some things to think about. No matter where you go, how you do in Medical school will be dependent upon you. So, I would also go with somewhere that you felt more comfortable and felt the environment was better for you to learn in.

Hello!

Roommate and I are currently looking for a third roommate to sign our lease at 3350 Alterra in hyattsville,MD. It's a newly built apt complex. All utilities are included except for electric. Amenities such as a 24/7 fitness center, pool, and parking are included . We are located right off the G/Y line which is at PG plaza; literally a 2min walk! Supermarket, gym, mall, and many other small business are located within 5min walking distance. Amazing location and beautiful apartment complex.

You will be sharing the bathroom with one other roommate.

Small bits on roommates:
- One is a 23yr female who is currently in her 1st year of medical school. Very clean and respectful.
- Other is a 22 yr old female who is a teacher and working on her masters. Spends most of the time working in the city, but is also very clean and respectful.

We are looking for someone who shares the same kind of workload as us. Someone who is respectful of the place and keeps it clean. Someone who pays the rent on time and hopefully just overall good person to be living with. This place would be the perfect place for a fellow female student.

We have a move in date set for the first week of July. If you have any questions or would like to talk about the place go ahead and reply by email at [email protected].

Are there any reapplicants to Howard that were waitlisted the first time around and were interviewed earlier the second time around? Howard seems like a school that would accept previous interviewees, but I was curious if any one has been through that before. I'm considering reapplying but want to know how likely they would do that because I really think Howard is a great fit for me.

Also, any waitlist news from anyone? This wait is killing me

I've also been curious if anyone has called to inquire about the wait list or any movement? I wonder about how many people are on the wait list. The wait truly is torture, but I've been trying to keep myself busy and hope for the best. If July 1st comes without any news, then I'll start freaking out lol. But we still have a good amount of time for positive things to happen. Let's keep strong, endure this wait, and remain optimistic for now.

Hi @xyphr

I will tell you what I was told when I was doing my personal statement and writing secondaries. Although there is a characters/words limit, you do NOT have to reach that limit. The idea is to not bore the reader with unnecessary info. I have never reached the characters limit, and I am sure some have. But it all comes down to this: We all went through a lot growing up, we had to work and go to school, We have relatives with cancer... So address the question pointing out what's unique to YOU while being concise. Good luck!

Just accepted off the waitlist today! If anyone browsing this thread is looking for a roommate/suitemate, please pm me on here!
Do you mind me asking what CHC you chose? Just wondering what locations are having movement as of late.
