2014-2015 Jefferson Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You can just Google the academic calendar. Schools always post them at least a year in advance.

this past year, our orientation began July 28th (Monday). White coat ceremony was August 1st (Friday) and classes started the Monday after that.

is it true that all students will get an iPad with all of the class notes on it?

I mean, you get it as part of the fees you paid, but basically that's all you need for classes. Textbooks, lectures, etc are all integrated into ipad functionality so you don't have to carry around textbooks etc. Comes with a note-taking app as well.

this old man would still prefer studying out of a book, but i welcome not having a load of paper to carry around.

Slow night at work and all I can think about is hopefully getting accepted to Jeff on Wednesday.

Yeah the ipad thing @ jeff is awesome! the last time I had an apple product was back in high school though heh, might take some time to get used to!

you get an iPad (some covered from by a grant, rest from your tuition).

this was the first year. we didn't have notes pre-loaded or anything. they do have content delivery system that they helped design that allows you to download lecture slides and the syllabus (notes from the lecturer). we didn't have any note-taking app pre-installed but most bought notability ($10) since it lets you annotate slides/PDFs. for classes that don't use the content delivery system, you can easily get slides/notes to your iPad using dropbox. lots of people also just get the syllabus printed at their own expense. you can watch lectures on the iPad if you want (or any device really). if you don't like using the iPad at all, you don't have to other than for exams. Most people use some combination of printed resources, their computers and their iPads.

because they provide you a syllabus (comprehensive notes from the lecturer covering everything from their lecture), we don't really have an assigned textbook. Only for anatomy (no syllabus for that class) did we have a textbook that was 'required' reading (and you didn't really have to read it as the lectures covered most of it). they do provide recommendations for textbooks and have them available at the library but not sure how many people actually use them.

This school still giving out interview invitations? It's the only school I haven't heard back from. I got accepted into a school I am pretty happy about but still want to check this place out. Wondering if I can start spending the $600 I have saved in case I do get an interview here........

The last and only interview day left is this Wednesday so if you haven't gotten an interview it is highly unlikely. I mean there is a chance someone might cancel last minute but chances are pretty slim at this point. Let us know if it happens for you!

Don't be sad you have an acceptance! That is AWESOME!! If you don't mind me asking, where were you accepted?

They don't call waitlisted people only on Wednesdays right? It could happen at any time? I'm ready for Wednesdays to be just Wednesdays again, haha.

I don't think the waitlist starts moving until May 1st after initial decisions have been made. Correct me if I am wrong.

Who knows but that's the consensus for when most of the movement begins. Also not sure what happens with calls once interview season is over this Wednesday.. could be completely different.

Just finished compiling these stats from last year's Jefferson thread (+MD Apps).
Great idea inspired by @Pedsmdplease from the Dartmouth thread.

Cheers!

According to this spreadsheet made from last year's thread, the first hpwl movement occurred on 4/30.

To anyone accepted, are you able to pay the deposit through the portal? Or do we have to pay by check?

I really don't want to pay by check haha...

I had this same question when I was accepted - you can only pay it by check unfortunately. When your letter comes in the mail (if it hasn't already), it will have instructions for how to send the card back with a check to accept your spot in the class. I called them about it and they told me that you have to send a check.

Thanks very much, I saw the instructions on the card but there is a link on the portal that said pay your deposit (but it doesn't work lol). Confused me. Guess I'll have to dig out my checks haha. I don't think I've paid using a check for 2 years!

I know none of you will see this before your interviews, but good luck to everyone interviewing today!

anybody have any idea what % of the interview group gets a decision back the following week? 4/1 here and i guess this is my life now

It depends on when your interviewer comes to the adcom meeting... If they go, you get a decision that week.

Am i the only one who wishes it was O-week already? I just want to forget all my current stuffs and start!

Just got the acceptance call! I was really thinking I'd have to wait until may to find out. I'd made my countdown calendar and everything.. I'm so excited!!
Weren't you waitlisted last week? That's awesome!

I still haven't heard... it's looking like either have to wait another week or I'm about to be waitlisted.

Wait a minute...does this mean waitlist movement has already started? 😱

Also, Congrats!! :heckyeah::heckyeah:

I interviewed on 3/18 and have not heard back. I sent a thank you to my interviewers the next day. Should I send a LOI even though they have not made a decision about me? Or is that too desperate...

I sent thank you's to both my interviewer and the deans. I think it's implied that you are interested when you do that.

I did not thank the deans though, I just sent thank yous to my interviewers. I just want to hear back so I can stop stressing!!

Drop the deans a note... I did. Can't hurt. Plus they seem like they want everyone to keep in touch!
