2014-2015 Loyola University Chicago (Stritch) Application Thread

So what does a prolonged "under review" mean? Because it seems like limbo

haha! Well it's not a rejection! Here's what i've gathered from this thread so far.
1. Preliminary review (check over your app make sure you have everything)
2. Under review (we are considering you for a II at this time)
3. Been reviewed (we've looked over your app and we aren't rejecting you at this time but we aren't considering you for a II at this time either)
4. II
5. Rejection-occurs at the end of the cycle

You're right on everything except they don't reject students until the cycle ends. Not even post-interview.

Also want to remind everyone that I'm currently an M1 at Stritch, and I'm happy to answer more questions if anyone has them.

Do you hear back about acceptances soon after the interview, or are those held off until the end like rejections?

You'll usually hear about acceptances/waitlists about a month after your interview. They offer admission on a rolling basis.

under review for about 6 weeks now...come on loyola!! the more I research the school the faster it is becoming my #1 choice

I just checked mine without a problem. Maybe they're updating a decision for you 😉

Anyone know how strict they are about having a LOR from every school attended?

For transfer students 🙂

Their requirements are not iron-clad, but you have to justify why you didn't or can't meet them. I graduated in 2005 and there was no way I was going to get any LORs from my undergrad profs, so I'm relying on LORs from post-bac courses and professional & volunteer experiences. I called the admissions office about this and they said it was fine, but to state my case. If you have letters from the school you graduated from/have the most credits/took your prereqs or your most difficult courses I think you'll be fine - but do use the space to explain. Full disclosure: I haven't received an II, but I'm still under review.

Perfect, thank you! I transferred universities about 4 years ago, so all my LORs are coming from the school I graduated from (also where I took all my prereqs). I've emailed a couple professors from the other school asking for a LOR, but so far haven't heard anything--wouldn't really be surprised if they said no/ignored me since it's been 4 years lol. I'm glad I have an option!

aw man, I went from preliminary review to been reviewed in 1 day 🙁 and I thought I did a great job on these essays. sigh. my low GPA is gonna kill me

Keep your hopes up! There are a good amount of people in the previous thread who still got an interview invite after receiving the "been reviewed" status.

Loyola- receptive-ish. They will try to get back to you within 2 weeks if they can grant one when you are there.
Northwestern- not really. "we haven't made a decision yet so we can't accommodate you"

The same thing just happened to me too! Since it was so quick, I'm wondering if it was a screening thing. Also wondering the rough percentage of applicants who go from "file has been reviewed" to II. Anyone have an idea?

Most likely very few to none I'm afraid.

I've been under review since Aug 1-5 (sometime in there). Can we take a head count...any others out there?

Submitted July 17, only had the "under review" status since then. Not too worried about not hearing anything yet!

Last II's came out Monday (last week, i think)...maybe we'll be in the next batch? Hopefully scheduled for this week.

Finally submitted my secondary here. Hopefully it is not too late and get some love from Loyola 🙂

For you guys who have received an interview invite, what are the first dates available for interviews?
Thanks so much

Thank you for the quick response. How many days a week does Loyola conduct interviews? I wonder if it shows on their calendar. Thanks again
To my knowledge, they really just schedule you whenever their faculty have free time to conduct interviews. I don't think each interview day is that large of a group either. They do have one Saturday each month with a larger group though. Basically, when you get an II you will schedule it over the phone and I think you just kind of see what days are available and what works for you. I don't think there are set days.

They conduct interviews almost every weekday and Saturday. On weekdays, you'll be in a group with maybe 3 other students. On Saturdays, you'll be in a group with about 20 other students.

Eff ... just check my status and now have the "Has been received" status ... T.T

I didn't get one from my first school since my primary instructor is nowhere to be found. 🙁 But I sent them my committee which technically meets their requirements anyways. I just concisely explained it in the provided space.

Got an II yesterday! OOS, 3.6 cGPA, 3.5 sGPA, 33 MCAT. I called and selected October 20 as my interview date. I feel honored that Loyola thinks that I MIGHT be the type of student that they are looking for. I've got my fingers crossed for this one! To my fellow Application Status Junkies: I went from "Under Review" to the II message Friday morning.

Did anyone else have trouble uploading a photo? It won't let me click on any file when I'm trying to upload...

Edit: Never mind, apparently it works when it's a .gif

Congrats! Do you mind sharing when you were complete?

Does anyone know if Loyola is receptive to in-the-area emails?
Hey I was wondering if you ever contacted admissions and heard back regarding this? I have interviews in Chicago on 10/1 and 10/3... 10/2 seems ideal for a visit to Loyola for this guy!

Yep! This is what they replied:

I will present this information to the Committee on Admissions. If they grant you an interview during the time you will be in the area, you will hear from us via phone and/or email within the next two weeks.
