2014-2015 Loyola University Chicago (Stritch) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Complete mid-August and still haven't heard anything, not even a hold on the portal. LizzyM ~70, OOS. Has anyone had luck submitting updates? Wondering if I should submit one, but all I would really have to talk about is a new leadership experience in my research, one summer grade (A in upper level biochemistry), and midsemester grades. Any idea if that would be worth it?

I'm in a similar boat. LizzyM 73, OOS. I was complete August 14th. I think we'll hear soon! I submitted an update, just talked about my new work experiences and promotions. I think it is definitely worth submitting that update, why not? It isn't going to hurt you and can only help you. It shows you're interested in the school.

Here's hoping! I bet we hear in the next two weeks.

Awesome! I'll be submitting that this weekend. Thank you! How long was your update? A page-length letter or something?

Fingers crossed for both of us! 🙂

I would keep it as short as possible and to the point. It was a paragraph. Yup! Fingers crossed 🙂!

I live about 30 minutes from the school and haven't gotten one yet. No worries.

Is there somewhere we should accept our acceptance on the portal or anything? Or send a deposit?

At what point should I call the office if I interviewed the first week of September and still don't receive a phone call or letter? I'm thinking November?

If you call the office and ask when you can expect to hear, they'll ask for your info and give you a specific time range. Just be polite, and let them know you interviewed in early September, and were wondering when you could expect to hear a decision.

I have my interview scheduled for Nov 5th but I'm landing in Chicago the morning before. I was wondering if you guys have any recommendations on places to check out while i bum around the city.

Lou Malnati's or Giordano's Pizza, Superdawgs or Hot Doug's for Chicago style hot dogs (DON'T ask for ketchup). Get some Chicago Mix from Garrett's Popcorn on Michigan Ave to take home. Touristy stuff: Go up to the top of the Willis Tower (AKA the Sears Tower). Take pictures at "The Bean" at Millennium Park. Check out the Navy Pier and Shedd Aquarium.

Shameless plug for the Field Museum and Sue the T-Rex. My other favorite museum in the city besides the Museum of Science and Industry!

Hot Doug's closed this summer... 🙁 but Portillo's is delish!

Your file has been reviewed by the Committee on Admissions. The review process is continuous from now until the conclusion of our interview season in April. If you are granted an interview, you will be contacted by phone and/or e-mail.

is this bad news?

Ugghhh. So touristy. But I guess mandatory. The Bean is so overrated in my opinion. Walk all through Grant Park, from Millennium Park over the "Snake" Bridge down to the fountain.

When were you complete?

I got the same status last month, complete around a similar time. I'm pretty sure it's the hold status.

Still under review, so I sent out an update letter! Been complete just about 3 months ahhhh

Just mailed in my letter to hold my spot in the class. Any current students know when and what will be the next thing I hear from them?

Because it's still quite early in the cycle, there's not much else to do right now...
If/when you file FAFSA (January), add Loyola to your list...
Second look is in April, so invites go out in March (if I recall). You should be getting financial aid packages in April/early May as well.
Final decision-making is in May (you can only hold 1acceptance).
Orientation week is usually the last week in July (super fun!)

All I can say is enjoy this time of acceptance and then hustle to get your pre-orientation requirements during the summer.
We also created an fb group for Class of 2019! Welcome!

Interviewed earlier this month, they told me I would hear from them on the 3rd - can't wait! Anyone else in this boat?

Sorry this is late, but:

Complete 7/25
II 10/8
Interview 10/29

For those still under review that were complete in July- there's still hope!

Hi All,

For those who have already interviewed, is it closed file or open file? Thanks

Anyone heard anything yet today? Interviewed 10/15 and pretty sure they're calling today, but not a clue when...

Not yet!! It sounds like at least on previous days they have made calls in the evening as late at 7 or 8pm. So who knows!

I've been under review since sometime in late July or maybe early August. Got a call today from admissions, the lady was polite but clearly agitated. Apparently they sent me an interview invite a while back and have been emailing me since i hadn't responded to it. She wanted to know why i haven't responded to any of their emails. I've checked everywhere and can't find anything from them. Not even a complete email. If you've been under review for a while shoot them an update email. Something is going on... apparently i'm not the only one this has happened to either.

Edit: exercise some serious restraint here... I'm thinking only those who have been under review since JULY should potentially be concerned. Maybe send an update, then they will know you are still interested and if something fishy is going on they'll contact you.

Also...i checked the portal after the phone call and there was an II.

This is pretty funny, but I can't help but imagine the ****storm you've just unleashed on their admissions office. RIP inbox.

Oh wow, good to know! Did she say how long they had been trying to contact you?

Hi there- Just to clarify, you'd been under review for awhile but weren't on hold, correct? Congrats on the II!

And you're still "under review" in the portal? and congrats! We seem to have applied to a bunch of the same schools and i'm jealous of your success so far.
