2014-2015 Pennsylvania State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thank you...this whole process is just brutal. I am very grateful for a hold and not a rejection, but it is disheartening to know I will be in limbo for several more months. The wait is killer!

I interviewed late November. Best of luck to you too!

Thank you. I interviewed in late November and still haven't heard anything. I'm really starting to get nervous

Pre-ii rejection as well! Good luck to everyone else!

Loved the email subject line "Penn State College of Medicine: Interview Denied" very subtle.

Complete first week of August. Haven't heard anything from them till now.

Sigh and so it begins. the silent rejections become not-so-silent

Hey if anything it at least doesn't get your hopes up while you're clicking to read the email. Good luck for the rest of your cycles everyone

Anyone whom has been accepted: have you heard anything post-interview other than reception of deposit?

I have not, except for receipt of acceptance form and deposit. I sent in official transcripts but they do not not notify about those unless you request e-mail confirmation. Other than that, no word.

Does anyone know if there is a second look? If so, when is it?

It's going to be in April. Most likely mid April. You will get an email about it very soon.

Does anyone know if there is a second look? If so, when is it?

I recently emailed admissions about it and was told that the date has not been decided yet.

Sorry if this is a stupid question - what is a second look?

It's a day for accepted students to revisit a school before finally making up their mind about where they want to go for med school!

Have an interview here on Wednesday. How was the interview day for people who already did it? Relaxed? Stressed?

It was a relaxed day. Both of my interviews were conversational, and I had ample time to ask questions.

Both of my interviews were luckily in the morning, and were very conversational and friendly. I genuinely felt as though they wanted to get to know me. Also, I think admissions tries to match students with interviewers they can somewhat relate to.

Forgot to ask at my interview: how long after the interview do we hear back typically?

I was told we would hear back 8-11 weeks after interview date. Acceptance letters come via snail mail and may take longer than other communications.

Wow! Haha okay I will not expect anything soon. Thanks!

haha that's way better than 8-11 weeks, so I hope its mostly the case that its 6-8 lollll
Well I interviewed December 17th. Still waiting to hear. That was 7 weeks, I'm really hoping to see a nice big envelope in my mailbox soon! Staying optimistic. 🙂. Good luck to you

Hey everyone, not sure if this has been asked previously, if so, I apologize: As I decide on which medical school to commit to, I’ve learned that I may need to delve deeper into each program’s specifics, and my interviews and tours are starting to run together in my mind. So if any current students or anyone else that knows could help me out:. 1)How is the first and second year curriculum organized? What is a day in the life of a penn first or second year? How do current students like this approach in conjunction with the problem based learning aspect? How is pbl structured? Is it conducive to learning? 2)Also, is it block schedules in which there is a focus on one body system at a time? 3)What is the grading system for the first 2 years and then for clinical years? 4)Is attendance mandatory for all classes? 5)Are there opportunities for subspecialty rotations during the clinical years? And what locations are available for rotations? 6)How much off time are students granted for step 1? Do students find the preparation and guidance from the school helpful in preparing for the exam? 7)Where can I find a list of average step 1 scores, or even most recent step 1 scores? 8)I know there is a research requirement, does this seem cumbersome to students? When is this research normally done? I know some schools shorten the pre-clinical years from 2 to 1.5 years, to make room for research. Is this the case at Penn? 9)What sort of scholarships or financial aid is received by students? Is it mostly need-based? 10) When do accepted students normally hear back from financial aid after submitting FAFSA, I submitted in late January? 11)Are there other questions I should be asking myself? lol.. Thanks everyone..:poke:😀

Pre interview hold today. Really wonder why they wouldn't just reject me this late in the cycle..
