2014-2015 SUNY Downstate Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For the proof of US citizenship & BLS Certification, can we email scanned copies directly to [email protected] or do they have to be mailed?

I was actually at the office today taking care of this, and he said it can be scanned and emailed or faxed over. I'd call the office and make sure though, everyone in the office is really helpful and will gladly let you know the correct way to do it

I've already scanned and emailed all the required docs, and they were checked off..so this method should be good.

[Deleted] Did not realize the question I was answering was already answerred

Update: Rejected 6/5. 4 months after interview with no communication in between except me pestering them!! But accepted at another school yesterday. Good luck to everyone still waiting - hang in there.

Thank you for the info and congratulations on the other acceptance!

Anyone know the mailing Address for student health services? I can't seem to find it anywhere and they are not answering the phone...

EDIT: Found it! Never mind..

If it's about the docs, then they prefer scan and email...

Just got the call, accepted from Alternate List!! Second application cycle, first app at Downstate, first acceptance!!!! Life could not be better than right now, good thing I've been slacking on the new AMCAS.:banana::banana:

Congrats! Must be the best feeling in the world! Now you can relax this summer haha

Not for me they don't.. I tried scanning then emailing them all my docs but they told me in all caps "SEND AS ONE PDF." So I tried combining all of them, and then they told me that they couldn't open it and that I should mail or fax the forms to them.

Ahh so you're having a PDF problem... I would just try to rescan and send it to myself to see if it works before sending it to them.

But yea, why not try emailing them for the address? It's probably the same as Downstate and just address it to Student Health Services but I'm not 100% on that.

UPDATE: financial literacy is no longer required for this cycle.

QUESTION: when is the CPR due? I will be out of the country until July 6 and don't know if it will be accepted then?

The website says it's technically due July 1, but I read on last year's thread that someone called the office and they said July 1 was a "soft" deadline, just to get people to do things, and it was okay if you got some stuff in a bit later. I'd call to ask and explain your situation!

It's due before starting class in August.

Hey guys, finally got my spring grades in. What address should we mail our official transcript to?

Has anyone that was offered to apply for the institutional grant heard back yet?

I just received a financial aid packet from the school. The loans I'm being offered don't even cover the cost of tuition. Does anyone know what to do to cover my tuition expenses?

I emailed them about my loans not covering the estimated cost of attendance and they just said that I could increase my Grad PLUS loan amounts to meet the difference.

I met with financial aid a week ago. The plus loan is a sliding scale loan basically. You can take out as much from the plus loan as you would need up to the allotted budget which is your max. Do some budgeting to map out how much money you will need for the year and take out that amount

Just the normal admissions address for their office. Should be pretty easy to find.

Hey guys, how can I get admissions to check off my background check report? I told them that I reviewed the report and released it. I even sent them an html file (couldn't do pdf for some reason) of the report, but they still haven't checked it off. Should I use the "Report Delivery Manager" thing on Certiphi. Just want people's input on how they sent the report in.

JUST GOT THE ACCEPTANCE CALL!

Hey congrats! That's awesome news. Gives hope for the rest of us.

Quickly, when did you interview? Were you HFS then put on the alternate?

Thanks!

Honestly, I think they're just slow on marking off things on the checklist. I had some papers in 3 weeks before I saw a check. Be patient and maybe give them a call. For me, the background check took care of itself. I released it and that was that

I interviewed in mid February and was placed on the HFS consideration on march 26th, and was placed on the alternate list may 22nd. I am also out of state. I hope this helps and wish you the best of luck!

Dang student health is fast... they had my stuff all checked out within 3 hours of me sending it, and emailed me about second TB test around 8:30pm.

I think it's hit or miss. Cause it took them like 2 weeks with all my stuff lol

I'm still on the wait-list, does anyone have any idea on the chances of acceptance one month before school starts? This is sooo frustrating because I really don't want to put down money and sign a lease for another school out of state if I get accepted here.

If you dont mind me asking, can you post your stats? I'm still on the waitlist and I dont know how they are ranking us. This is soo frustrating.

33 MCAT, 3.8 GPA, so my stats are pretty much exactly their average, though I did a Master's program during one of my gap years and had some diverse experiences, nothing hardcore tho. OOS. I interviewed in early February. Good luck!

did you send any loi/updates?

I sent a letter of interest/updates and an additional LOR a few days after i got "hold for spring".
Ahh I see! Well congrats on your acceptance! 🙂

Did any alternate listers get an email last night around midnight from admissions?

i sure did. did it make my heart jump right out of my chest even though my brain should have subconsciously known that anything at that hour would be automated? it sure did.

ugh how many of us are even left on the alternate list? I just want to know one way or another already.. I really wish something could be done to reform this process so that it doesn't have to drag on for so long. There are so many things I need to do that change depending on if I'm accepted here or not.

Is anyone else scrambling to get all the checklist stuff done?
I really feel like it doesn't make a difference, and that it's only to make their (admissions) life easier. I doubt they pull people off the list depending on the checklist's completion...which is the impression they give off

I hope so. I've been going through a lot lately that I haven't been giving the checklist my full attention. They haven't explicitly said that not completing the checklist by july 1 will result in your dismissal.

If your worried, I would probably just let them know that your still working on getting in the stuff that you haven't already and that it will be done soon. That way they at least know that you are still interested/ working on it, it just might not be all done right on July 1st.

I was actually at the office this past week. So Llana told me that it's not a strict deadline and as long as its all done before orientation then it's fine. She did mention however, that they are inclined to admit a student with everything handed in once orientation draws nearer. Hope that helps.

It seems more like a hedge than anything else. This way if you're accepted two days before class starts (hope to God this does not happen) then all your ducks will already be in a row and you can integrate that much faster.

Still on the alternate here as well. Agreed partypantss. I think little reformation is needed as well. My whole life is on hold right now while I wait to hear back from a handful of schools. Though looking at the process as a whole it's hard to see how they could get around it.

Quick question. Do alternates receive a log-on for the checklist or is this for accepted students only? I have submitted all of my check list items but have yet to receive a log-on.

Thanks!

I received a log on as well as a bunch of other alternates. You should send them a quick email asking about it

Yes, you should have received a log on a while ago. They had some issues sending those out though so it was probably just a glitch that you didn't receive one.

Does anyone still have a red x next to Downstate Supplemental Processing Fee under "Initial Review" on their checklist? Pretty sure I already paid that when I applied over a year (!!!) ago and I don't think I would be in this current position if it hadn't been paid.
