2014-2015 SUNY Upstate Application Thread

Hi all. I am an out of stater from the midwest who is going to be interviewing in February. I read in this article from the director of admissions (http://www.accepted.com/chat/transcripts/2011/med06062011_suny.aspx) from 2012 that the is/oos split is determined pre-interview by suny downstate. I was wondering if this was still the case and that once offered an interview being oos no longer diminished your chances of acceptance? Thanks!

I was thinking of calling but I can't bring myself to.

The thing that's kept me from doing so is seeing on here that no one else from that date has heard anything either. If the rest of y'all start getting decisions, and I still haven't heard anything, that's when I'll call.

This makes me mad- on the question grad program vs. postbac, she basically says that anyone without a science major should do a postbac.

anyone's status change?

hahaha, best meme for this situation ever

Interviewed 9/17, haven't heard back and no status change since the "congratulations you've been invited for an interview." Beginning to think that I messed up on the MMI pretty badly even though I felt decent about it right afterwards...

Where was the "congratulations you've been invited for an interview" status displayed? Right when you log in?

Just out of curiousity, did anyone from the first week of October hear back?

Does anyone know if you can fulfill the biochemistry matriculation requirement at a community college?

Don't worry! I interviewed 9/17 and also have heard nothing.

At the interview today, the admissions chair did mention that if you haven't heard anything after 5 weeks, then to give a call.

Just called. Adcom met last night and reviewed a lot of files which they will be processing soon. Person I spoke to did not even ask for my last name because they don't give decisions over the phone anyways. He said to hang tight, decision should be coming very soon.

Tldr: don't call today!

That's great, on behalf of probably many of us on here, thanks so much for calling them and letting us in on the news

I apologize if I missed this earlier, but for those of you who have interviewed, who did you direct your Thank You's towards? Obviously there is no way nor does it seem necessary to send thank you's to all eight people who interviewed us, but I was thinking of sending emails directly to Dean Welch and Barbara-Ann Goodwin was appropriate? Or is there a more general email admissions address to send them to?

Thanks

I actually... didn't send a thank you, since it was an MMI, and there wasn't just one or two people to thank.

This may not have been the best plan. But I'm sure a message to Dean Welch would be just fine.

Just withdrew my app, hope someone can swipe my interview spot!

My portal just changed from late September, so seems like they did just review a bunch!

Previous acceptances in this thread showed up on both Thursday and Friday. Maybe we'll hear tomorrow.

Did anyone send a thank you email after their interview? If so, did you just address it to Dean Welch?

one thing i just recalled was that a large portion of the evaluation is judging how normal/professional you are. So just behave like normal and I don't think you will have a problem. I recall one guy and a girl who fidgeted extensively/nonstop and unfortunately i did end up putting it down.

Just heard via email. I'm on the "hold by committee" list, i.e. the "almost certainly not getting accepted later" waitlist.

Feels better than a rejection, though.

You got an email!? Oh my gosh I haven't heard anything yet. So are you on the high priority waitlist or the alternate list or something different all together?

Just got an interview invite for NOV. 12! That's less than a week away! Anyone else going on this day?

The email calls it the hold by committee list. It's not the priority waitlist.
