2014-2015 Texas A&M Health Science Center Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I needed to get to DFW lol. I wished we could have traded places. I accidentally confirmed before I read the email carefully. I thought I would interview at Lubbock where Texas A and M is, but it's actually in Temple, which is 3 hours away from Houston and my UTMB is scheduled for the next day. :/ That's a lot of driving.

Does A&M have student hosts?

When I interviewed at A&M I had a similar situation. I had Lubbock on Wednesday, A&M (Temple) on Thursday, and UTMB on Friday. I called the admissions office and told them about the situation. They were extremely nice, understanding of the situation and more than willing to help out. She gave me several different dates to choose from. So if you want, you can try to call A&M and ask if you can reschedule.

When I interviewed at A&M, I signed up to stay with a student host but I ended up staying at a hotel because I was never contacted about staying with a student. What I would do is to sign up for the student host program, book a hotel, if you get an email about staying with a student then cancel the hotel reservation. If not, you always have the back up plan.

I just saw the post above me about the interview day at A&M ending early. I think it depends on which interviewer you get and what time your interviews are. Some people had interviews that ended at 3pm, others 4 or 5pm. But the interviewer that I had was behind on schedule so I ended up getting out at 6pm.

Yes, most have student hosts.

That's a good point. My interview day only had about 12 people so when there's more it would go longer.

No II yet from any TX schools. 3.8/32 , In state....Under review since August . Any thoughts?
I hear that II go into Nov and Dec and it looks like folks with high LizzyM scores are also just getting II.
Appreciate any comments, thoughts....

What are your extracurriculars? You have good stats.

That's strange. With those stats you should be getting multiple interviews (assuming your EC's/essays/LORs are all good). There is still a lot of time left to hear back. 🙂 Don't lose hope!

Should be good ECs, LOR, etc. Research, lots of hospital volunteer, hospice, physician shadow
My MCAT was a retake from 29 last time. Reapplicant this year. No II last time also. I attributed that to low MCAT.
I am instate ORM (Asian)

Did you have someone read your essays? Are all of your section scores above an 8 or 9?

Yes, All scores 10 and above

I have no idea other than the reapplicant status. Other than San Antonio, there still seem to be plenty of interview dates at all the other Texas med schools, so I feel you have a good chance.

Thx but why would it matter if Reapplicant? My app is better, GPA little better, MCAT lot better, EC more piled on!
Is San Antonio done with interviews?

It depends on the school and whoever reads your app, but being a reapplicant might not hurt at all or it might hurt a lot. I got a San Antonio invite 2 weeks ago and I had to pick an interview date in December b/c all the ones before were filled.

Hello all! I am new to this thread but I was wondering if anyone knows up to when they hold interviews and if there is a specific day that they email out II. Thanks!

I got my II on a Thursday morning and they gave me one date in October (although I am sure I could have called and asked for a different date if it really would not have worked), so I am sure that they still have a lot more to send out!

When was your application complete? I wish there was some rhyme or reason to this process!

I submitted the secondary around the middle of July and only recently got an interview from here, I agree with you that it's impossible to predict, so we just have to buckle down and worry about other things.

Stats? if you don't mind.

Hi, I'm an M1 (accepted last cycle). We just finished orientation week.

Some info that might be helpful:
  • Average matriculating GPA: 3.66
  • Average matriculating MCAT: 30.6
  • 92.5% instate
  • 44% females
  • Recently partnered with Memorial Hospital in Houston so you can do your clinical years in: B/CS, Round Rock, Dallas, Temple, & Houston now
  • Grading is H/P/F with Honors given to the top 15% of the class
  • Class of 2018 is the last year where the M1 class is split between Temple & B/CS. Next year everyone will be in B/CS
  • Class of 2019 will become 1.5 years of basics

If you have any questions PM or post here.

Mine were pretty straight forward. I got asked the typical questions, then maybe a question or two that made me think. Nothing to be nervous about!

That's awesome! I interviewed early August so now I am kind of nervous! Which campus did you interview at?

Can any current Aggies describe what it's like to live in College Station? How's the cost of living? Is there adequate housing close to the med school, particularly houses (not apartments)? How's traffic? Do you ever feel overrun with undergrads?

Sorry for all the questions!
