Does anyone know how the waitlist works? Are we automatically put on it if we don't match or do we get an email about it?

I just received an email about being on the waitlist. Is there a way to find out what number you are on the waitlist?

Congratulations on matching today!!! If you matched into TAMHSC, welcome, I hope to meet you all very soon. I highly suggest that you join the class of 2019 Facebook group. It's a great place for communicating with other incoming students and asking questions to current students. Here is the link:

To everyone else who matched elsewhere, made a wait list, or didn't match this year, I wish you the best on your upcoming journey.

MATCH DAY IS TODAY - REPOSTING FOR NEW PEEPS

1. Congrats to those that match!
2. If A&M is your first choice, then start looking for housing. A lot of people live in Legacy apartments (closest), Presidio apartments, find houses, or live in College station which is a bit further away from the Med school campus, but I mean, B/CS is only so big. Houses usually cost about $4-500+utilities per bedroom, Apartments around $5-600+utilities for a 2bed/2bath.
3. If you didn't match - the waitlist moves with the majority coming in late april, may, june so you still have chances to get in!

4. Prestudying - not worth it. The reason why is because the professors consult multiple textbooks and make their own condensed versions of the notes in their lectures so if you are studying from a textbook, you will learn a lot of stuff that will be extraneous. Also, med school goes at such a fast pace that you will forget stuff you "prestudied." MY advice is to go enjoy the rest of your "accepted premed" life. Have fun, travel, get fit, learn how to cook, etc.

To give you a taste of 1st semester anatomy, you will be memorizing a muscle chart like this:
http://anatomy.uams.edu/muscles_alpha.html
A&M will have a less busy chart but essentially you will memorize the name, origin, insertion, action, blood supply, nerve innervation, and location on a cadaver, for all the muscles in the body (in manageable chunks!).

Do people who get in off the wait list have any shot at getting the more sought after places for 3rd/4th year (Houston/Austin)? Or are they just automatically assigned a place based on availability?

When my friend got off the waitlist last year, he just got was available! He just took the spot of who ever withdrew!

Maybe a student can confirm though! That's just what I've heard

Wow, I actually got an email telling me that I'm NOT on the waitlist. >_>

Pretty surprising honestly, I thought I had my best interview at A&M by a wide margin. They did interview me pretty late though, I'd guess that that has something to do with it.

Same, oos and waitlisted. Wonder if any oos got a direct acceptance.
I think the only MD acceptances for OOS so far were sent out on Oct. 15th....

I just wonder if an OOS acceptee drops, does that spot go to an OOS student, or to anybody? (since they have a certain amount of OOS spots or whatever).
Because our chance is very slim if we have to have an OOS student drop AND be next in line on the ranking. FML

Congratz to all those who matched today!!!

I got a waitlist email from TAMHSC

I hope it works out for you guys and anyone else on the WL. That goes for everyone else who's still waiting to get in somewhere. I wish y'all good luck, b/c you all deserve it.

Hey, quick wuestion:

The new curriculum has the preclerkship 18 months as pass/fail, right?

Or is it high pass/pass/fail?

honors/pass/fail is used according to the PowerPoint from the interview. Also, 70>is pass and top 15% of class are given grade of honors.

Does anybody know where/how to find the past few years of match lists for A&M? I can only find lists that show what specialty people went into (and whether or not they stayed in texas), but what I'd like to see is what specific programs people matched too.
Can any current students help with this??

Anyone know what campus they want to choose? debating b/w BCS and Houston as a first choice, partly b/c I'm from Houston, but also b/c it might be easier to stay in BCS...

waitlisted yesterday. will be sending in my update personal statement and additional letter of recommendation as soon as possible once i'm back in texas.

There's a stapled packet we got at interview day; it has specialty, institution, and city/state of residency match from Class of '14. Is that it? b/c I know there's a different sheet that only has specialty matching.

I think they may be referring to these match lists, which show the specialties A&M students went into, but not the institution:

That site also shows match lists for the other schools if anybody wanted to see:

Yeah, they gave us both; one with just specialties and one with more detain on the schools and locations matched, based on specialty.

I'm debating the same thing... I would prefer Houston for its hospitals but I have few questions about the Houston campus, will there be an actual A&M campus other than the one building? I'm leaning toward it now but the lack of A&M buildings and resources is kinda worrying me, I feel like i would be lost in there!
Also where would we take exams and such?
My other choice is Bryan simply bc I think it's easier to stick in one place rather than jump around, and also AIM sounds nice.
I'm really excited but little freaking out about the campus preference 🙂

Exactly. Basically how I feel lol

I talked to an A&M medical student the other day, and he said that the students who participate in the AIM program actually do better on their Step 2 on average compared to the others. Not that you would do horrible if you went to the other campuses, but the AIM program does have its benefits!

Does anybody know if pre-matched students get priority with regards to the campus preferences?

The email we received states the the only factors considered are how you rank the sites and your justification. No advantage is given to prematched students and no advantage is given for submitting your preference early.

OOS alternate :/ any idea on what the odds are to get in off the waitlist?

@Command or anybody else who knows, do we have to provide our parent's information on the FAFSA we submit? (It says if you are filing as an independent that you don't need to)

Yeah but then along the side it said something like "if you are entering medical or dental school you might want to" so I'd like to know the answer to this as well!

No it is not required. But if you want to be considered for scholarships from TAMHSC, then yes you need to provide it.

I asked specifically about this part as well. The financial aid & scholarships office replied with....

"There is no need to include your parent's information on you FAFSA as it will not have any affect on your financial aid eligibility."
Okay forgive me: We fill out fafsa but we don't have to do anything on our portal?

OOS waitlistee here. Curious, did no OOS applicants hear anything post 10/15? I don't see any OOS students posting "accepted" after that date. Also it looks like there could be a ton of OOS people on the waitlist based on how many OOS people have commented on being waitlisted. If anyone has a clue as to what's going on, please share.

No I don't believe we have any portal requirements right now other than ranking our sites. But I am actually going to call in next week about the "parent info." They said it doesn't effect financial aid, but does that also refer to scholarships? Such as, from the medschool.
Yeah. On Fafsa it recommends you put it on there if you're going to graduate schools and such. I'm going to put my parents once they file, because although I have a work study job, I don't file for taxes.
